One of the best ways to determine whether you will like a slot game even before launching it is to check the key game features. Of course, like all our slot reviews, the one dedicated to the Pilgrim of Dead slot includes these features. Once again, we will analyze the slot's theme, the reel set, its RTP, and a few other things that will show you whether this game is worth checking.
The Pilgrim of Dead is among the slot games with advanced features and modern design that should work with most players today. Now let's continue with our detailed Pilgrim of Dead slot review.
Theme – Ancient Egypt
Ancient Egyptians were pretty obsessed with the concept of the afterlife and death. They had mummies, pyramids, and several deities associated with these things. So, in the Pilgrim of Dead, we are given a chance to enter a temple built in honor of Anubis, the god of death. Many of the elements that are part of this story will reveal the spiritual side of this ancient civilization. Still, despite its title, nothing is terrifying about it.
Like many other slots, this one has symbols with unique properties and regular ones. The latter includes nine icons. Regardless of their type, they are inspired by the story. First, we have five ornamented playing card values from 10 to Ace. Next, there are the Scarab, a Balancing Scale, an Anubis Statue, and a Pharaoh. It's good to know that the Pharaoh pays up to 100 times your bet and acts as the highest-paying regular icon.
Reels
Like over 95% of modern online slots, the Pilgrim of Dead slot comes with 5 reels. We can say the same for the rows – 3 rows per reel. Simply put, we have a game with a 5x3 grid.
Paylines
The simplicity of this game's matrix is reflected in its paylines too. Namely, players will find 10 fixed paylines. Hitting three (or two in the case of high-paying icons) or more identical regular symbols on one payline leads to payouts.
RTP
The theoretical Return to Player is an overlooked value in many cases. You're mistaken if you think you should ignore this percentage. The Pilgrim of Dead has an RTP of 96.2% which is more than the average value in today's slots. This tells us a lot about what we can expect in terms of returns in the long run, at least theoretically.
However, many online casinos tend to alter this Return to Player percentage according to their needs or national regulations. So, don't be surprised if you find different values related to Pilgrim of Dead RTP in some casinos. We have a list of the best options you have. Additionally, we advise readers to check other things before assessing any slot, including casino welcome bonuses and deals where the game is available, other games, payment methods, etc.

Stake Range
Whether you are a casual player or a high roller is irrelevant because the Pilgrim of Dead online slot has you covered in both cases. Namely, the minimum total stake you can use here is £0.1, while the highest is £100 per round. Users can also change the number of coins they use per spin (one to ten) and their value (from £0.01 to £2).
Max Win
As some of you may have guessed, this game has a maximum win cap. Honestly, you can expect a solid amount, especially if you play with high bets, because the limit is set at 10,000x the total stake.
Free Spins
Before we analyze the free spins round in this online slot, we will note that the Tomb plays a dual role here. First, it's the slot's Wild icon meaning it counts as any regular symbol as long as it can help you create winning combinations. Second, you're looking at a Scatter icon, and landing three or more Tombs anywhere on the reels will activate free spins.
In the beginning, players receive 5 free spins. However, landing at least three Tombs during Free Spins will re-trigger the round by providing 5 extra free spins. Lucky users can win up to 30 free spins in a single spin.
Special Expanding Symbols
One regular icon will be selected randomly during free spins and transformed into a Special Expanding symbol. This icon will also become sticky and stay in its position (it will cover the whole reel) until the end of the bonus round. Another interesting thing is that they don't have to be in adjacent positions with other matching icons to create a winning combo.
Gamble Round
We can't say that this is a genuine, unique feature, but it can help you boost your balance if you are willing to take some risk. Namely, you can try to multiply the prize in this round after any winning turn. Once you press the Gamble button, you will have to guess the colour or suit of the card to double or quadruple your last winning, respectively. Players can use this option five times in a row, and an unsuccessful attempt will make them lose their winnings.
Jackpot
A direct jackpot prize is unavailable in the Pilgrim of Dead. If you want to try a title with this type of reward, check the best jackpot slot games on our page dedicated to these releases.
Play Experience & First Impressions
For a long time, too long, I had ignored this title from Play'n Go having been disappointed with other iterations of the Book of Dead, circa Book of Ra slot releases. However, in my opinion, this is the best Book game from this studio to date, with really crisp, fresher looking symbols, graphics and soundtrack - The addition of the sticky expanding wilds in the free spins round, is a real filip especially when hitting multiples early on as we did in the 100 spin test (Below)
There is no doubt that this is a high volatility slot, but our test also showed a high frequency win return to, so there wont be long periods of dead spins to endure.
Altogether, I am very impressed with this release, and Play'n Go will have to work hard to better this with further variations on the theme.
