The Monopoly Deluxe slot uses Big Time Gaming’s infamous Megaways engine and has 6 reels and up to 117,649 ways to win. Randomly on each spin, each reel can have between 2 and 7 symbols: the more symbols per reel, the more ways to win. A winning combination is formed when a certain number of matching symbols land from left to right, on successive reels and beginning from the leftmost reel.

In this instalment, Mr. Monopoly is back and ready to boost your bankroll. With each win moving your around the iconic board, the setting is reminiscent of Monopoly Megaways as you’ll see the infamous green city skyline in the backdrop. Along the bottom, you’ll see properties and squares from the board game. The soundtrack has a jazz feel which ties into the theme.  

On the reels, you’ll see A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 low-value symbols. The higher value symbols include classic Monopoly tokens (or metal playing pieces) such as a top hat, battleship, car and dog: the top hat symbol is the best paying, awarding 50 x your total bet for 6 in combination.

Then you have the M Wild symbol which lands on reels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and substitutes for all paying symbols above. Finally, the other symbol of note is the Mr. Monopoly Scatter which is key to triggering the Free Spins feature.

Monopoly Deluxe Mobile

Built with HTML5 technology, Monopoly Deluxe can be played on desktop, tablet and mobile devices, including iOS and Android smartphones. If you play on the latter, you’ll see the game in Portrait Mode. However, to see the Monopoly board in its full glory (along with all the moving parts), I prefer a larger device (i.e. laptop or PC).

Monopoly Deluxe comes with Reactions with every win moving Mr. Monopoly around the board: landing on a Property will see the win multiplier grow, whilst you can benefit from Max Megaways, moving to a random Property or 1 of 3 extras (including entry to the free spins). Reactions

When you land a winning combination, the Reactions feature comes into play. Winning symbols disappear from the reels with the remaining symbols falling into the empty positions: new symbols then drop in from above to fill the newly vacated spaces. Possibly leading to continuous wins, it’s a staple in most Megaways games.

Monopoly Board

Every win will see Mr. Monopoly move around the iconic Monopoly board. If you land on a Property, the multiplier grows as each House adds +1 and a Hotel skyrockets the multiplier by 5x. Other spaces reward you with surprises:

• GO!: landing on ‘GO’ will see the reels expand to offer Max Megaways (and 117,649 ways to win)
• Community Chest: draw a card that takes you to a random Property
• Chance: flip a card to unlock 1 of 3 outcomes: Max Megaways, move to a random Property or entry to the Free Spins feature (with 12 free spins)

Free Spins

The Free Spins feature is triggered when you roll in 3 or more Mr. Monopoly Scatters, draw a Free Spins Chance card or combine the 2 for even more free spins. 3 scatters will give you 12 free spins, with 4 extra free spins for every additional scatter. Then Mr. Monopoly will unlock additional extras:

• Train Stations: add 1 free spin to your tally.
• Utilities: boost the starting win multiplier by 1.
• Properties: every House and Hotel you’ve built in the base game is carried over into the free spins.
• Win Multiplier: the win multiplier from the base game is carried over with each House increasing it by 1 and every Hotel increasing it by 5. The win multiplier persists and can only rise during the free spins.

Monopoly Deluxe is packed full of non-stop action, bigger multipliers and much higher max win potential (49,920 x bet) and a higher RTP rate (96.84%) compared to the much-loved Monopoly Megaways.

At first glance, its easy to assume the Monopoly Deluxe slot is an identical copy of Monopoly Megaways: graphically, it’s almost the same as it uses the same backdrop, same layout and the same symbols.

The gameplay has been altered though, and for the better. Every win sees Mr. Monopoly move you around the iconic Monopoly Board: the key is to land on a Property as every House and Hotel increases the multiplier by 1 and 5, respectively. If you land on GO!, you’ll play with 117,649 ways to win whilst Community Chest cards move you to a random Property. I quite like the Chance card as this can reward you with Max Megaways, moving a random Property to even granting entry to the free spins.

The Free Spins feature offers more of the same but with the multiplier from the base game carried through (from Properties) and collected Train Stations and Utilities increasing the win multiplier and adding extra free spins. With unlimited extra free spins to be won, you can boost the win multiplier further by landing on a Property and Utility. The Chance and Community Chest cards can activate various modifiers: I quite like upgrading to a Hotel personally.

With a 96.84% RTP rate and 49,920 x bet max wins, Monopoly Deluxe outdoes Monopoly Megaways on every front. The volatility is much higher (very high compared to medium) but the win potential is almost 3.5 times higher. The 22,875 x bet max win potential in the base game is over 6.5 times higher than the 3,500 x bet max win potential in Monopoly Megaways too.

All in all, Monopoly Deluxe is quite similar to Monopoly Megaways in many ways. However, Big Time Gaming has added extra layers and dramatically boosted the RTP rate and max win potential to make this a standout game amongst all Monopoly slots.

It doesn’t quite match up to the best slot game sequels (such as Relax Gaming’s Money Train 4 or Nolimit City’s Tombstone Slaughter) but its definitely an upgrade on BTG’s first Monopoly outing.
