With a viking theme, the Le Viking slot follows raccoon Smokey on his third adventure. Part of the ‘Le’ slot series, previous releases include the Wild West-inspired Le Bandit (August 2023) and the ancient Egyptian-themed Le Pharaoh (September 2024).

The story is that Smokey has set foot on solid ground after a long journey at sea (on the longship in the backdrop I imagine). Set in the Viking Age, your aim is to join Smokey on his epic journey which will release your inner Norseman in order to make Oden proud.

Sporting a helmet and wooden sword, Smokey is ready for action. Using clean cartoon-style imagery, the setting is on the shore of a Viking village which resembles Kattegat (where the Vikings TV series took place). The first thing I noticed though was the upbeat and folk-like soundtrack.

On the reels, you will see low-value A, K, Q, J and 10 royals. The higher-value symbols include an assortment of weapons such as bow and arrows, helmets, axes, swords and Mjolnir hammers. The Mjolnir hammer symbol pays the most awarding 3 times your total bet for 6 in combination. Below is a list of all symbol payouts:

Le Viking also comes with several special symbols. There are Bronze, Silver and Gold Coins and Diamonds which contain bet multipliers. These lead to Green and Gold Clover symbols which apply multipliers to all coin and diamond symbols. The other symbol of note is the FS Scatter which is key to triggering the Berserk Free Spins feature. During the free spins, there are Heart and Magic Cauldron symbols. Raid Spins Re-Spin Mode

The Raid Spins Re-Spin Mode feature is triggered by landing 6 coins of any kind simultaneously during a base game spin. With 3 lives awarded, only dead symbols, Coins, Diamonds and Clover symbols can land. These symbols are sticky until the feature ends.

With every re-spins consuming 1 life, landing a coin, Diamond or Clover symbol will refill your lives to 3. If you get 3 re-spins in a row with only dead symbols, the feature will end. Below is what each of the symbols represents:

• Dead: These have no effect
• Bronze Coins: Contain a bet multiplier value between 0.2 and 4 times your total bet
• Silver Coins: Contain a bet multiplier value between 5 and 20 times your total bet
• Gold Coins: Contain a bet multiplier value between 25 and 100 times your total bet
• Diamonds: Contain a bet multiplier value between 150 and 500 times your total bet
• Green Clover: Multiply Coins and Diamonds on adjacent squares between 2x and 20x
• Gold Clover: Multiply Coins and Diamonds on the grid between 2x and 20x

Once you run out of re-spins, all Coins and Diamonds on the grid reveal a random bet multiplier value. Their totals are added together to determine your final payout.

Berserk Free Spins 

Landing 3 FS Scatter symbols during a base game spin will trigger the Berserk Free Spins feature. With 3 refilling lives awarded, you will encounter dead symbols, Coins, Diamonds, Green and Gold Clovers as well as Heart and Magic Cauldron symbols.

Before the feature begins, the positions where the triggering FS Scatter symbols appeared will be given 2x Grid Multipliers. These are sticky and remain in position until the end of the feature.

All Coins, Diamonds and Clover symbols are sticky until the feature ends or collected by a Magic Cauldron symbol. When the latter lands, all Grid Multipliers and Clover symbols are activated and apply their multipliers to any Coins, Diamonds or previous Magic Cauldrons in their area of effect.

All Coins, Diamonds and previous Magic Cauldron symbols are collected into the latest Magic Cauldron which remains on the grid until it’s collected or the feature ends. Each Magic Cauldron symbol only collects once.

Look out for Heart symbols as these increase the maximum number of lives, up to 5. Once you run out of lives, all Coins and Diamonds reveal a bet multiplier prize and are collected as in the Raid Spins Re-Spin Mode feature. Le Viking also comes with 3 more free spins features which work the same as the Berserk Free Spins feature but with more Grid Multipliers that are higher in value:

In the Journey to Valhalla Free Spins feature, you’ll get 6 Grid Multipliers worth 10x. Additionally, Bronze and Silver Coins don’t appear meaning only Gold Coins and Diamonds which drastically increase your chances of landing a big win.

Part of the popular ‘Le’ series, the Le Viking slot takes Smokey the raccoon on another adventure to the Viking Age. Visually, it’s cheeky and inviting which will appeal to fans of the previous releases. The game is a lot ‘softer’ than slots such as NetEnt’s Vikings (the official game of the Netflix series) or 4ThePlayer’s 4 Fantastic Vikings Go Fishing.

In terms of the gameplay, Hacksaw Gaming has kept true to the 2 previous releases which offer respins with Bronze, Silver and Gold Goins as well as Green and Gold Clovers. With the addition of the Heart symbol which can give you up to 5 lives in any of the 4 main features, Hacksaw has ramped things up in the Journey to Valhalla Free Spins feature as no Bronze or Silver Coins land on the grid.

With 10,000 times bet max wins possible, you can win the max win in any of the bonus features. Whilst the max win probability isn’t known, it does feel like Hacksaw Gaming is pushing the mechanic further in Le Viking. That said, Le Pharaoh comes with 15,000 times bet max wins.

In summary, the Le Viking slot is another enjoyable trip with the Smokey raccoon. I would have hoped that Hacksaw Gaming would have upped the win potential to 20,000 times your total bet or higher to make it stand out against previous releases. Where will Smokey head off to next? I’m sure it’s not the last we’ve seen of him.
