Locked Features

When you fire up Langley Street 23, there are 4 locked features. Unlocked by collecting a certain number of VHS tape symbols, here is what you can expect:

Mystery Symbol

Triggered when 6 VHS tapes have been collected, the Eye Mystery symbol is unlocked with a mystery re-spin to follow. Mystery symbols then reveal the same payout or Wild symbols. Mystery symbols can also contain a multiplier from 2x to 100x.

Expanding Wild

Triggered by collecting 12 VHS tapes, the Expanding Wild symbol is unlocked. An expanding wild re-spin is awarded. Guaranteeing at least 1 Expanding Wild symbol, it covers the entire reel and contains 2 multiplier values from 2x to 100x.

1 of the 2 multiplier values is chosen and applied to the wild. If a symbol with a multiplier is present on the same reel as an Expanding Wild when it expands, the multiplier values are added to the Expanding Wild.

Cloning Wild

Triggered when you collect 18 VHS tapes, the Cloning Wild symbol is unlocked. A cloning wild re-spin occurs with at least 1 Cloning Wild appearing. Landing on reels 2 through 5, the Cloning Wild creates a Wild symbol in its position and in adjacent positions to the left. It may also contain a multiplier from 2x to 100x.

If a Cloning Wild clones over a Wild or Expanding Wild symbol, it adds its multiplier value to that symbol. If the Cloning Wild doesn’t have a multiplier, a +1 multiplier is added. If it clones over a Mystery symbol that has become a payout symbol, it becomes Wild with the multiplier added if it has one. There is a chance that at least 1 payout symbol type becomes a Cloning Wild.

Surveillance TV

Triggered by collecting 24 VHS tapes, the Surveillance TV feature is unlocked and replaces the CRT TV. A re-spin with a guaranteed Bonus Game trigger is also awarded.

Split up into 4 screens, each screen is paired with a matching VHS tape. When a VHS tape lands, it can light up a part of the image of the screen it lands on. It can also collect an already collected piece meaning nothing happens, It can also add the remaining pieces of the image. When a screen’s image is completed, you’ll trigger the following feature:

• Top Left Screen: triggers the Mystery Symbol feature
• Top Right Screen: triggers the Expanding Wild feature
• Bottom Left Screen: triggers the Cloning Wild feature
• Bottom Right Screen: triggers a re-spin with guaranteed Bonus Trigger

Bonus Game

The Bonus Game feature is activated when 3 or more Briefcase Bonus symbols land. 3, 4 or 5 will reward you with 8, 10 or 12 free spins, respectively. With no VHS tapes in the feature, either the Sticky Mystery or Sticky Wild Bonus mode will be awarded:

• Sticky Wild Bonus mode: all Wild and Expanding Wild symbols are persistent. The multiplier adder increases or adds a multiplier value to 1 or more Wild or Expanding Wild symbols.
• Sticky Mystery Bonus mode: all Mystery symbols are persistent. The multiplier added increases or adds a multiplier value to 1 or more Mystery symbols.

In both modes, there is a chance that the multiplier adder increases the free spins counter with 2 free spins. The multiplier adder may target multiple symbols and increase the multiplier value of each target by 1x to 25x.

X-iter

Finally, there is an X-iter feature which has 5 options:

In the base game, the key is to collect VHS tapes as these will trigger 1 of 4 Locked features. With transforming mystery symbols, Expanding Wilds and Cloning Wilds, they can also contain multipliers up to 100x. I found that combining a few Locked features resulted in the biggest payouts.

The Expanding Wilds feature works a little like Hacksaw Gaming’s DuelReels mechanic, found in slots such as Bullets and Bounty, Duel at Dawn and Death Becomes You. With the Surveillance TV feature, you aim to light up screens to trigger 1 of the 3 other Locked features or gain entry to the free spins.

In the free spins, you will play either the Sticky Mystery or Sticky Wild Bonus mode: offering persistent Mystery symbols or Wilds and Expanding Wilds, the key is the multiplier adder as this targets multiple symbols and increases the multiplier value by up to 25x.

With 10,000 x bet max wins, Langley Street 23 will take a few spins to get what’s going on. I found the Locked features can activate simultaneously. The fact that Mystery symbols, Wilds or Expanding Wilds are persistent in the free spins makes it easier for big wins theoretically but I did find the Expanding Wilds to be very hit and miss due to them resulting in no wins most of the time.  

In summary, Langley Street 23 is a good game with plenty going on to keep the flat-earthers and globarists happy. If you want other decent ELK Studios titles, Pirots 5, the Nitropolis series and Rabbit Royale would be my picks.
