I checked out the Cursed Seas slot game using the best slots sites featuring this studio and I was blown away! Adventuring through its dark, pirate-themed world with top-notch graphics and tunes was a thrill. Among all the best slot games I've played, its high volatility and slightly above-average RTP of 96.22% on a 5x4 grid kept me hooked. And let's not forget the Dead Men Tell No Tales bonus round – an absolute standout!

100 Spins Test

This 100 Spin test was updated by Steve Madgwick on 16/08/2023

100 spins is not a Real Test

We give every slot a 100 spin test to see just what it can do, or not as the case can often be - 100 spins is no reflection of the likelihood of any other 100-spin session, as RTP's are set over many millions and probably billions of spins. So this 100 spin test is just for entertainment and insight purposes

Test Comments

Arrrgghh!! Hacksaw, why do you do this!!?

Just look at those numbers, Hacksaw games can be brutal at times, and today was no exception with one of the worst 100 spins tests I have ever undertaken - Literally nothing happened, despite a high, 28 winning spins in 100.

Look at the session RTP, only 9.1%, that's right, across 28 spins with something being returned, it average a 0.3x win. Thats 30p for a £1 spin - Awful!

The game looks great, you know it has Hacksaw 'Pop-Off' potential, but this is a stark warning, that volatility and RTPs can not be relied upon in a short slot game session. And money can be lost very quickly indeed.

Game Data

Hands up who loves pirates? It’s a big hands-up from us but even if they’re not your thing they have been ingrained in our culture over the years. This theme translates well for a slot game as there is so much recognisable imagery. The graphics for the game are atmospheric and bleak, the Cursed Seas game is certainly well-named! The graphics are phenomenally creative and they set the sense for a great gaming experience.

Besides the Dead Men Tell No Tales bonus round already mentioned there is another entertaining feature entitled Cursed Treasures. Here cursed symbols create a ‘cursed area’ above the grid where there are several multipliers.

Right, let’s continue with our full review of the Cursed Seas slot game.

Graphics, Music, and Sound Effects

The ambient setting hits you as soon as you start playing. The background image of a stormy sea with an old pirate ship paints the picture perfectly

The reel imagery is spooky-looking with recognisable pirate-themed imagery used as the symbols.  The designers have used grey and cream colours across the design to keep the haunted vibe flowing throughout the game.

The haunting instrumental music creates the right mood and there are some great sound effects including seagulls, spooky pirates, bells and of course the sound of splashing waves hitting the bow of the ship.

Key Features

During our OLBG slot game reviews, we like to follow the summary, intro, graphics, music, and sound effects with the key game features. This information will help you decide if Cursed Seas is a good match for you or not.

We share many slot games reviews on OLBG and these include up-to-date info about essential features such as theme, paylines, reels, bet range, and bonuses. Don't go anywhere if you want to find out about our first impressions and our expert verdict of the Cursed Seas slot game.

Theme – Pirates

The pirate theme is universally appreciated and in this game, it certainly doesn't disappoint. The style of this slot is sullen and ghostly which brings about an outer-worldly slots experience.

During the game, you’ll see several pirate-related images across the base and bonus games. On the reels, in order of value, we have an anchor, star, flag, pistols and skull and crossbones. This is followed by four characters from the game which again in order of value are the young male pirate, the female pirate, the skeleton ghost pirate and the bearded pirate.

The Wild Symbol is represented by a chest with an orange’ W’ on top of it. The Tormented Skull Symbol is yes, you’ve guessed it, a skull. The Kracken Symbol is depicted by a green monster and the Cursed Chest Symbol shows a chest with eerie green smoke spiralling around it

The Cursed Seas game is another title with the classic 5 reels with 4 rows setup.

Landing winning combos is possible on 26 paylines. These are non-adjustable paylines that help you get rewarded.

Return to Player or RTP as you've probably seen it written on slot sites is a way of forecasting what percentage of stakes will be returned to players over the long run. It is always represented by a percentage that is usually somewhere between 94% and 96%. The Cursed Seas RTP slightly exceeds the average at 96.22% which is the highest tier of RTP they offer.

There are different RTP rates available so you’ll need to check on the operator’s sites to find out which RTP they are offering. We’ve dug around and found a few different percentages in some UK online casinos and added these sites to the table below.

It’s worth mentioning that RTP isn't the only factor to think about when deciding where to play. You should also consider factors such as payment options, customer support, welcome bonuses and deals and mobile optimisations, etc. Our casino reviews analyse all of these things and much more.

Like most players, you probably want to play more than just one game so that you can try them out. We’ve created a page with the slot sites we recommend. These sites feature hundreds of titles that players in the UK can launch immediately.

Stake Range

The stake range for Cursed Seas is pretty standard and starts a £0.10 and goes up to £100 which should fit most player’s requirements.

Max Win

The max win for Cursed Seas is a decent 12,500 x your stake. This can be won during the base game as well as during the Sunken Treasure and Tell No Tales bonus rounds.

Wild Shape

The Wild Symbol is represented by a chest with a large orange ‘W’ on it. The Wild substitutes for all other symbols on the paytable.

Free Spins

There are two Free Spins bonus games included in this game, firstly there’s the Sunken Treasure bonus round. This is triggered when you land 3 Lantern Scatter Symbols on the grid. Here you’ll win 10 free spins. Plus all Cursed Chests Symbols that land create a ‘cursed area’ and add their multipliers to the total multiplier which is shown above the reels. The value of the total multiplier is applied to winning paylines that pass through any of the cursed areas.

The second Free Spins element of the Cursed Seas game is called the Dead Men Tell No Tales bonus game. When you land 4 Lantern Scatter Symbols you trigger this bonus round where you get 3 refilling lives, one life = one spin. This feature contains special Skull and Kraken Symbols. Above each reel is a multiplier value that starts at 1x and can be progressively increased throughout the feature. The Cursed Skull Symbol reveals a multiplier value that is added to the total multiplier above the reel where it landed. This creates the cursed area already mentioned which is above the reel.  The cursed area on a reel grows if a new Cursed Skull Symbol lands below it. The Tormented Skull and Kraken have multipliers that go up to 500x. The Tormented Skull Symbol goes up to x25. Whenever at least one of the special Skull or Kraken symbols lands on a spin, all three lives refill. The feature ends after three spins in a row without any of the special symbols landing.

Like the majority of online slots, today Cursed Seas doesn’t have a direct jackpot reward. If slot games with a jackpot element in them are what float your boat you should visit our page with the best jackpot slot games.

Play Experience & First Impressions

Our first impression of the game is a very positive one, the theme, colours, imagery and music all came together to create a first-rate gaming experience.

Expert Verdict

We’re a sucker for a pirate theme and this ticks all of the boxes with a foreboding vibe, ghostly graphics and eerie characters.  We’re big fans of Hacksaw Gaming for its innovative movie-style graphics, especially its gothic style, and gloomier titles. It feels like the Graphics, game name and music come together particularly well for Cursed Seas, they’ve created a compelling story

The Cursed Chests feature is interesting as the cursed area above the reels is very compelling. Seeing which multipliers are revealed and then added to this special area really kept the momentum going during gameplay and as multipliers go up to x200 you can win a decent amount.

The game’s x12,500 maxi win is good and compares well to other games on the market. The stake range of £0.10 - £100 would appeal to most slot players out there.

Shiver Me Timbers me hearties (sorry, we had to include one last pirate pun!) we certainly enjoyed playing the Cursed Seas game. The simplicity of it combined with the fun features and great gaming experience means that we would definitely recommend Cursed Seas to you.
