My exclusive Q&A-style interview with Eyecon's Head of Commercial, Jordan Rosamond, looks at their journey from Brisbane, the slot game creation process, mobile play, challenges regarding UK regulation, their most popular games, Fluffy Favourites, sequels and future releases.
Q: Can you describe Eyecon’s journey since it was founded?
JR: “Eyecon started life as a start-up based out of Brisbane, Australia, initially doing various things both inside and outside of the gaming industry before finding a niche in slot games.
We found success around 20 years ago with slots in the UK bingo space, and have built up since then to have a portfolio of hundreds of games serving countless markets and partnering with sites focusing on bingo, casino, sportsbook, and even poker.
Back in 2017 we became part of the Playtech family, which granted us additional support and access to further markets and customers. More recently we have expanded into instant win games, and into markets such as Ontario and the USA.”
Q: How are new slot games created? What’s the process?
JR: “This starts with our Game Design Director, who will come up with concepts based on past performance of our titles, feedback from our operator partners, and plenty of market research of what we see working well in our target markets.
She will put together a game brief for our games team, who will then work together to develop the game - bringing together the back-end wizardry, the art assets, the animations, the sound, the maths, and so much more into a playable demo.
This will then be tested by the team, feedback gathered, and the game refined until we are happy that it’s reached our high standards where we can present it to customers.”
Q: What % of players play on mobile vs desktop/ tablet devices?
JR: “This depends on the market, but we see over 90% of our players playing on mobile, a far cry from our first releases which were only available on desktop!”
Q: What challenges does Eyecon face in terms of UK regulation?
JR: “Like all regulated game studios, we must stay on top of changing rules around how our games can play and be marketed in different markets. By and large this is just about keeping the customer’s safety and enjoyment front of mind, but every now and then we’ll have to shift some processes.
For instance, this year we had to have a real think about game design for Instant Win titles which now have a minimum spin speed of 5 seconds, twice the requirement for Slots.”
Q: What are Eyecon’s most popular slot games?
JR: “Fluffy Favourites is of course our best-loved slot game, still remaining one of the iconic slots of the UK market nearly 20 years since its release. But as well as its sequels like Fluffy Too, we have other incredibly well performing slots like Shaman’s Dream, Enchanted Prince, and Temple of Iris.”
Q: With Fluffy Favourites being such an iconic game in the UK, are there plans to develop the series further?
JR: “Keep your eyes peeled for this one, as we have plenty of ideas for where we can take Fluffy next!”

Q: I see Eyecon has produced lots of sequels. Are there plans for any more?
JR: “Absolutely. There are so many new games these days, that it can be difficult for a new slot IP to gain traction or be given a chance by operators and players. There are dozens of games being released each week and a tiny window for a game to find a fan base before it is replaced in view by other new titles.
Releasing sequels of popular titles keep players happy with a new way to play with their favourite brands, and gives new game mechanics an extra chance for success because of the existing fan base.”
Q: Can you tell us a little about your upcoming releases?
JR: “Next up for Eyecon is Fluffy Favourites Clawmania. It brings the Fluffy characters you know and love to life in a new way, with the return of The Claw. Q: What other slot games from other providers do you like/play?
I’m a big fan of arcade-style games outside of traditional slots, so I love the Slingo titles from Gaming Realms, and Design Work Gaming’s LuckyTap range. But my all-time favourite slot would have to be Immortal Romance from Microgaming.”
