I break betting odds news as it happens, so you’re never left behind when the market moves or a top offer lands.

  • Copenhagen narrowly leads Vienna in the early betting for 2026.
  • Zurich, Melbourne, and Geneva remain outside contenders.
  • Small shifts in quality-of-life measures could swing the final ranking.

Copenhagen Slight Favourite Over Vienna in Early Betting

The race for the 2026 World’s Most Liveable City title is already taking shape, with betting sites pricing up the early favourites ahead of the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) annual Global Liveability Index announcement.

Copenhagen ended Vienna’s three-year winning streak in 2025, securing the top spot with an impressive score of 98 out of 100.

The Danish capital scored a perfect 100 in stability, education, and infrastructure, with particularly strong marks for healthcare and cultural environment.

Vienna and Zurich shared second place in 2025 on 97.1, but the Austrian capital is just behind Copenhagen in the early 2026 betting, suggesting a close race could be in store.

What the expert says...
With Copenhagen and Vienna so close in the betting, the smallest changes in infrastructure projects, public safety perception, or cultural investment could decide the winner. Copenhagen’s momentum from 2025 gives them a slight edge, but Vienna’s pedigree can’t be overlooked.

Copenhagen vs Vienna Rivalry Continues

In recent years, Vienna has been a near-permanent fixture at the top of the rankings, thanks to its strong infrastructure, healthcare, and cultural life.

However, Copenhagen’s all-round consistency and perfect scores in key categories make it a serious contender to defend its crown.

Melbourne, Geneva, and Sydney also remain in the running, but bookmakers see them as outside chances based on the last few years’ scoring trends.

What is the Global Liveability Index?

The EIU’s Global Liveability Index ranks 173 global cities each year, scoring them on stability, healthcare, culture & environment, education, and infrastructure.

The results are closely followed by expats, relocation companies, and urban planners and in recent years, punters have been able to bet on the outcome.
