Bookmakers give odds on TikTok being banned in the USA by the end of the year

The future of TikTok in America looks under threat with calls for the social media platform to be banned and bookmakers are offering odds on whether it will happen this year.

Back in March, US Congress grilled TikTok's CEO for more than five hours with questions around the platform from the older members of Congress who had slim understanding of technology.

What's clear though is the US sees TikTok as a security threat and that could well mean that we see the platform banned in the country by the end of the year.

According to CNN, TikTok has 150 million US Users and every single one of those could be removed from the platform if the ban comes into place.

Will TikTok be banned from the USA by the end of the year? Odds Probability
Yes 4/5 55.6%
No 10/11 52.4%
What the expert says..
There's now a 55% chance that TikTok is banned from the USA by the end of 2023 as Montana looks set to be the first state that bans the platform from devices!

Montana looks set to be the first state to ban TikTok fully

Thursday saw lawmakers in Montana take one step closer to completely banning TikTok following a bill being passed to ban the platform from operating in the state.

The bill, which was endorsed by the house with a vote of 60-39, will then have another vote on Friday before being passed to Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte who will likely push on with the ban.

Gianforte banned TikTok on government devices in Montana earlier this year and we're starting to see that happen in the UK too with North Yorkshire Council's staff devices banning the app.

Khaby Lame is the favourite again to have the most followed TikTok account by the end of 2023

TikTok superstar Khaby Lame is once again the favourite with bookies to be the most followed TikTok user on the platform by the end of 2023.

Betting sites had also given odds on the outcome last year and Lame ended up winning the race against Charli D'Amelio easily by the end of 2022.

This year should see more of the same with Lame once again just ahead of D'Amelio in the betting market at 4/5.

Most followed TikTok account by end of 2023 Odds Probability
@khaby.lame 4/5 55.6%
@charlidamelio 11/10 47.6%
@bellapoarch 12/1 7.7%
@zachking 20/1 4.8%

It looks like it will again be a two horse race when it comes to the most followed TikTok accounts this year with Bella Poarch third favourite at 12/1.

The longer odds shows such a slim chance of her catching up to D'Amelio and Lame who are both more than 50m followers ahead of Poarch on the platform.

What the expert says..
Khaby Lame looks set to dominate the followers list on TikTok for another year with the popular user nearly 5m clear of second place Charli D'Amelio!
