Betting odds are now given on EU's climate goals

Climate change is one of the most important topics that is discussed amongst the EU and betting odds are now given around their climate goals being hit by 2030.

The EU's goals that they have set are ambitious to say the least with an aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% from 1990 levels by 2030.

Latest betting odds suggest a 55% chance that those goals are reached by 2030 with the latest market at 4/5 that it does so.

We should start to see a clearer view of how the EU is trending towards reaching the goals in the next 12 months with the Paris Agreement setting the need for global emissions to peak before 2025 starts.

What the expert says...
Latest betting odds now give a 55% chance that climate goals are reached by the EU before 2030 with the current market looking at the Paris Agreement needing change in the climate positively.

The Paris Agreement "legally binds its signatories to act to fight climate change"

The EU agreement came into force back in November 2016 with the Paris Agreement giving an outline for action towards global warming by countries within the EU.

Main goals in the long-term focus on the global average temperature increase to not exceed 1.5C by the end of the century and countries to commit to climate action by submitting plans to reduce their emissions.

The UK now 20/1 to rejoin the EU in the next year

OLBG have previously looked at odds of the UK rejoining the EU by 2026 with the previous market giving a 12.5% implied probability of it happening.

Now though it's as big as 20/1 for the UK to rejoin the EU with the latest probability at 4.8% that it happens according to the current betting odds.

The odds though are as big as 1/20 for that not to happen with Keir Starmer showing no signs of attempting a return to the EU during his time as Prime Minister.
