Mary Page Narrow Favourite in West of England Mayoral Race

With voters heading to the polls on Thursday 1 May, the race to become the next West of England Mayor is hotting up and the betting market amongst UK Betting Sites reflects just how close it could be.

According to Star Sports, Green Party candidate Mary Page is the slight favourite at 7/4 as she looks to become the region's first Green metro mayor.

Page, a Bristol City councillor and environmental campaigner, has focused her campaign on sustainable transport, housing, and tackling pollution.

But snapping at her heels are Oli Henman (Liberal Democrats) at 2/1 and Labour’s Helen Godwin at 9/4, with both parties hoping to capitalise on strong regional infrastructure and voter turnout in key Bristol and South Gloucestershire wards.

What the expert says...
This is one of the most competitive mayor races we've seen across the UK ahead of next week's elections. Mary Page’s move to 7/4 reflects real momentum, but it’s razor-tight between her, the Lib Dems, and Labour. Don’t be surprised if this market flips again before Thursday

A Competitive Field for a Growing Region

This will be the third West of England Mayoral Election, with the winner assuming responsibility for transport, planning, housing, and regional development across Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, and South Gloucestershire.

The current mayor, Dan Norris (Labour), is ineligble for re-election after he succesfully stood for North East Somerset and Hanham back in the July general election.

Page’s momentum has reportedly grown thanks to growing climate-conscious sentiment, while both Henman and Godwin have solid ground operations in key areas.

Arron Banks, the businessman and Brexit campaigner, is a high-profile wildcard at 11/2 representing Reform UK.

Steve Smith (Conservative) at 20/1 and independent Ian Scott at 66/1 round out the field.
