Sequels and Franchises
There are plenty of follow-up movies in the list of expected top worldwide grossing movies in the betting, Avatar has a long-awaited sequel, whilst Aquaman and Doctor Strange also release a second.
Mission impossible is on number seven whilst Batman and Spiderman are back, and Toy Story produces a spin-off with Lightyear although it is hard to see it outperforming its parent. Minions will probably struggle to follow up the first film too.
Jurassic Park is the interesting one. Whilst Avatar was a massive hit on the original release there will be much hype about the long-awaited follow-up, but Jurassic Park is huge and the return of many of the original cast to this edition is sure to bring moviegoers to theatres in their droves.
