Donald Trump is now the evens favourite to be chosen as the 2024 Time Person of the Year

Former US President and current candidate Donald Trump is the evens favourite to win the Time Person of the Year award with betting sites slashing his odds after a dramatic July in America.

Trump survived an assassination attempt back on July 13, 2024 with the bullet that was shot at him hitting his upper right ear with blood pouring from the former President and this caused shockwaves around the world.

Following that dramatic sequence of events, the odds of Trump winning the upcoming US Election shortened massively and that eventually saw the confidence in Joe Biden being voted in again diminish.

Biden therefore stepped down from the Presidential Election race and Kamala Harris is now set to be the Democratic candidate for the election in November.

This whirlwind month has seen Paddy Power slash the odds of Trump being voted as the Time Person of the Year with not many people having a more dramatic 2024 that him.

Yulia Navalnaya and Satoshi Nakamoto follow in the market as joint second favourites

Yulia Navalnaya and Satoshi Nakamoto had previously been the joint favourites in the betting market to win the Time Person of the Year for the past 3 months but they've since been replaced by Trump at the head of the market.

Alexei Navalny's widow Yulia Navalnaya has become a key figure politically following the passing of her husband Navalny by vowing to hold Russian President Vladimir Putin responsible for his death.

Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used for the pseudonymous person or people who developed Bitcoin with the identity credited with creating the biggest cryptocurrency.

Various people have claimed to be Nakamoto over the years but there has been no confirmation of who it is and Time may decide to offer the award to the pseudonymous individual.

Taylor Swift was crowned the 2023 Time Person of the Year

Taylor Swift won 2023's Time Person of the Year last December with the magazine's editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs explaining why they gave her the award.

"Swift found a way to transcend borders and be a source of light," said Jacobs piece in Time's December issue which went further around why they chose Swift above other massive names to win.

Swift had a huge year with her Eras Tour passing the $1b mark in terms of the money and that has shown no signs of stopping in 2024 with her tour continuing.
