Pietro Parolin tops the market to be the next Pope

Cardinal Secretary of State for the Vatican Pietro Parolin moves back into favourite with bookmakers to become the next Pope with the betting market changing around once again.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin is considered by many to be a big the most straightforward successor to be the next Pope but had drifted in the market to take over in recent months.

Parolin is Pope Francis' No. 2 official and he has done many visits when the Pope cannot do them himself and he's 4/1 favourite to be the next Pope.

The latest betting odds put Parolin at the top of the market to be the next Pope with the odds saying there's an implied chance of 20% that he gets the role.

Peter Turkson had previously been favourite for the role but he has since drifted out to 6/1 in the betting odds.

Former favourites now drift in the betting market to take over in big role

Ghanaian cardinal of the Catholic Church Peter Turkson has previously been favourite to be the next Pope and remains in the betting market as third favouirte.

Turkson had even featured in the market to take over last time a new Pope was decided with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes both making him favourite in their respective markets back in 2013 after Pope Benedict stepped down.

The current odds have Turkson as the third favourite at 6/1 to be the next Pope with the latest market suggesting a 14.3% chance of him getting the role.
