I've spent over 20 years inside the betting industry. I'll guide you to avoid the hype, ignore the noise, and steer clear of the common pitfalls that catch out everyday punters.

  • Betting odds on Frankie Dettori hanging up his saddle are 5/1 before the end of 2022
  • The first teenager since Lester Piggot to ride over 100 winners
  • It took Frankie 15 goes to win the Epsom Derby - the last time speculation began as to his retirement
  • His career highlight came on Champions Day at Ascot in 1996 when he rode all seven winners on the card at odds of 10,168-1.

It is hard to argue that since the great Lester Piggot flat horse racing in the UK, and indeed the world, has had one outstanding personality to has just about achieved it all, and then some - Stand up, or flying dismount - Frankie Dettori.

Bookmakers odds suggest they think there is just a 16% chance of Frankie Dettori hanging up his rising boots before the end of the year with 5/1 odds available for those that think he might.

Now 51 years old, and looking at just his GB rides, he amassed between 1988 and 2021, no fewer than 3291 winning rides from 16684 mounts and a win strike rate of 19.73% - That's pretty impressive and of course includes winning all seven races on Champions Day at Ascot back in 1996 when cleaning out the bookies and even putting some of them out of business.

Dettori is now into his 52nd year and is still going strong with no plans of retirement, which is probably why the bookmakers are offering odds as big as 5/1 for him to announce retirement this year.
Last year he was quoted when questioned about retirement that he had no plans for a date to stop rising.

At the moment it (retirement) is not on my mind. I still enjoy what I’m doing. Health-wise I’m still pretty good and I’m pretty fit. I have no intention of stopping - I haven’t put a date or time on it, I don’t know, but at the moment I’m still enjoying it.
