As excitement builds for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series, the latest betting odds now keep Paapa Essiedu as the standout favourite to take on the iconic role of Professor Severus Snape.
Reports in Variety back in December put Essiedu as the frontrunner for the role with a number of big names put forward to play one of the bigger characters in the Potter franchise.

Esteemed American actor John Lithgow revealed in February that he will portray Professor Albus Dumbledore in HBO's Harry Potter series.
Lithgow, 79, acknowledged the substantial commitment that the role entails and stated that it was "not an easy decision" and that it is "going to define me for the last chapter of my life."
Reservations have already been made about an American actor playing an iconic British character but it's likely he will not be the only American who is casted.
