Phillip Schofield makes return to television after 16-month exile

Phillip Schofield is making a shock comeback on British television next week with Channel 5 airing a special mini series which sees him stuck on a tropical island for 10 days.

62-year-old Schofield is appearing on his own show 'Cast Away' which sees him battling for survival while discussing his last two years where he found himself off television.

Fans of Schofield and ITV's This Morning were originally shocked to see Schofield announce that he was "stepping down" from his presenter role, before it was eventually revealed that he had been sacked.

Reports in The Sun say that Schofield was dismissed back in May 2023 within minutes of coming off air on This Morning.

Odds are now given on what Schofield will do next now he has his first footsteps through the door for his television return including heading back onto ITV via their huge Reality shows.

Schofield was sacked by ITV following an affair with a member of staff

Speculation around Schofield's private life ramped up throughout the start of 2023 before eventually he announced his departure from This Morning on 20 May of that year.

Schofield gave a statement to the Daily Mail where he admitted that he had an affair with a teenage male while also apologising for lying to colleagues, employers, the media and public.

"I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife," his statement included.

I'm A Celebrity and Big Brother on rumoured shows he could appear on

Now it looks increasingly likely that Schofield's new Cast Away show is to see how the public reacts to him reappearing on British television and any sort of positivity will likely see him comeback on bigger platforms.

The former British Soap Awards present of course may decide to stay on smaller channels and Channel 5 could have him on a bigger deal.

It's no surprise though to see rumours linking him to both I'm A Celebrity and Celebrity Big Brother though further down the line with controversial figures appearing on both shows previously.
