Manchester City are the odds-on favourites to beat Manchester United in the Community Shield this weekend

The 2024/25 Football season kicks-off this weekend with the annual curtain-raiser taking place at Wembley, the Community Shield.

We've got a Manchester Derby Community Shield this season for the first time since 2011 and it's Manchester City who go into this one as the favourites with UK Betting Sites.

City face rivals Manchester United and Pep Guardiola's men are 4/7 to lift the Shield for the third occasion in his time in charge of the club but they have lost their last three appearances.

United are 4/1 to win here with Bet365's latest odds putting them as big outsiders compared to City in the market, with those odds giving a 20% chance of Erik ten Hag's men winning the match.

Ten Hag's side went into the FA Cup Final as big underdogs back in May though and ran out winners and they'll go into this game in the same boat.

United beat City in the FA Cup Final at Wembley in May

May's FA Cup Final saw pundits and fans alike building up to the game thinking there would be no outcome other than a Manchester City victory.

United though went against the odds and beat City 2-1 and that run basically kept ten Hag in a job after reports on the evening before the game saying he'll be sacked.

That victory ultimately led to this season's Community Shield set as another Manchester Derby and the it's United who are the most successful team in the competition with a total of 17 wins.

Our Community Shield By Numbers piece focuses at how important victory is in this curtain raiser for the new campaign.
