It's now 4/1 that the law will change against Channel 4 before 2023

Channel 4's privatisation has been a massive story in the UK this year with the government announcing it wanted to privatise the channel back in April this year.

The then Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said that government ownership is holding the channel back which came with massive backlash.

Bookies say there's a 4/1 chance that the legislation required for the commercial sale of Channel 4 will become law at some point before the end of 2023.

This gives around a 20% chance of it happening according to the odds with talk around the privatisation cooling in recent months.

There's a 20% chance of the law changing to go against Channel 4 before 2023 with bookies giving odds of 4/1 that a legislation is passed.

There's an 83% chance that there will be no changes and Channel 4 will stay as it is

According to the latest odds by Smarkets, there's an 83% chance that there will be no changes to the law in the next 13 months.

Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan has said she was revisiting “the business case” for selling the publicly owned broadcaster.

In an interview with the BBC back in September, Donelan said that she was  “re-examining” the proposed sale of Channel 4.

The change in tone of the Culture Secretary from the previous regime will come as a positive for Channel 4 supporters.

18/1 that UK culture secretary Michelle Donelan is the first cabinet member to exit

Michelle Donelan's prominence in a potential privatisation of Channel 4 may make her position in the cabinet under threat.

Any quick change of mind in terms of reforms and other legal matters cause question marks from the public around reliability for that MP.

It's 18/1 that Michelle Donelan is the first cabinet member to exit with Home Secretary Suella Braverman remaining the favourite.

Braverman's odds have drifted slightly with the 71% chance she had of leaving this year looking less likely.

Michelle Donelan is 18/1 to be the first cabinet member to exit and with those odds is the rank outsider to go.
