McLaren's Lando Norris is the 6/5 favourite to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix is set to take place in Baku this weekend and McLaren driver Lando Norris heads into the race as the 6/5 favourite with UK Betting Sites putting him top of the market.

Norris needs to put in a strong performance in Baku to strengthen his chances of winning the Formula 1 Drivers Championship this season, with Max Verstappen's recent form opening up the door for Norris to challenge.

The British driver though has been plagued by poor starts to his races which have seen him struggle to capitalise on starting high up in the field and therefore costed him extra points in certain races this season.

Baku needs to see a different Lando Norris, one who puts himself first and defies team orders at suitable times, if he is to be a serious contender for Max Verstappen ahead of the final stretch of the season.

Bet365 have Norris as the clear favourite to win in Baku this weekend and doing so would be a big help towards winning the Drivers Championship for the first time in the 24-year-old's Formula 1 career.

What the expert says...
Lando Norris heads to Baku this weekend for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix knowing that he needs to put on a better showing that he did at the Italian Grand Prix last time out. Winning here in Baku will firmly put him in the Drivers Championship race this season and see McLaren's Constructors Championship chances strengthen too!

Charles Leclerc won last time out at the Italian Grand Prix

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc won the Italian Grand Prix last time out after a gamble by the team saw them stay out for a one-stop and stay on to win ahead of the two McLarens.

Monza was as dramatic as F1 usually is with Oscar Piastri passing his McLaren teammate Norris on the opening lap to dent his chances of fighting for the Drivers Championship.

All eyes were eventually on Leclerc though with his team deciding to change their strategy to a one-stop and therefore give Ferrari an iconic victory on home soil.

Leclerc was greeted by the Tifosi as he passed the checkered flag and secured victory for Ferrari in a gruelling performance which saw the driver have to do 38 laps on hard tyres.

Max Verstappen remains favourite to win the Drivers Championship this year

Despite struggling in recent races, Max Verstappen remains the odds-on favourite to win the Formula 1 Drivers Championship this year as he takes his lead into Baku.

Verstappen sits 62 points above Norris with eight races left of the season and the British driver will need to win on average around 8 points more than his rival in those remaining races.

The Red Bull's inconsistency is what has opened up the door for Norris's title chances this year and more of the same would surely see him get to a point towards the final races of the season where the door is open for him to win the Championship.
