To all members, readers and posters welcome to the 'Player Of The Week' golf thread.

Image

Welcome to the 2017 Player of the Week thread, we are now into Week 39 of the competition! Week 38 seen laursie1 land our only result with Shane Lowry bagging a place at the British Masters! Back at it this week!

Who will be the player/tipster of the week this week?

Tournaments taking place -

1. Alfred Dunhill Links Championship – European Tour
2. Safeway Open – PGA Tour
3. Ladies Open de France – Ladies European Tour
4. HONMA TourWorld Cup – Japan Golf Tour
5. Yeangder Tournament Players Championship – Asian Tour
6. Dutch Senior Masters – European Senior Tour (Friday Start)

Readers want to see your reasoning and discussion as to why they should back a particular player in the above events so please make any posts interesting and informative. Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, the more points and approaches we have in this thread can only help as we decide on our selections ahead of round one. We understand your selection may not be for a betting purpose like others but more for an OLBG selection or simply for your Fantasy Golf team so all input and opinions can only help this thread grow.

It would be great if in time we developed into a group of golf tipsters and experts each adding their ONE 'Player of the Week' accompanied by 100-125 words. Max 1 event - 1 entry only.

PLEASE NOTE - Picking the same golfer as a fellow tipster is allowed but we encourage unique picks from everyone so there is more information in our thread for all to read.
Important: All POTW comments must be original and not lifted from any source. Of course POTW players need to do research but the comments must be in your original words.

Player: Tyrrell Hatton

Tournament: Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Reasons For Support:

Hatton is the defending champion in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and heads up to Scotland on the back of a tied 8th place finish at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports. 63-65 to open in Newcastle, Hatton's game looks to be very close to a big week in my opinion and a return to the scene of his maiden European Tour title can see the Englishman click over the four rounds. Hatton won by four last year shooting -23 for the four days and that including a third round of 62. Tyrrell Hatton to put up a big defence of his Alfred Dunhill Links title.

Player: Shane Lowry

Tournament: Alfred Dunhill Championship

Reasons For Support:

After Paul Dunne winning last week in the British Masters I can see the Irish players doing very well this week in the Alfred Dunhill Championship up in Scotland. Shane was 29th in the Portugal Masters after being tied for 2nd through 9 holes of the third round then last week at the British Masters he finished 7th so his form is good coming in here. Lowry is hitting a lot of greens and a good week on the greens can see him make it back to back Irish winners on the European Tour.

Player. Ross Fisher
Event. Alfred Dunhill Links
Reason
Ross hasn't been in the best of form lately and has missed more cuts than I would like but he has shown bits of form in between but he likes these links courses and this is an event where he has gone well a few times in the past second in 2008 and again filled the runner up spot last year after leading the way after the first round hopefully with tee to green the order of the day he can come back to some decent form and will be a bit of value against the usual big guns.

Player: Robert Karlsson

Tournament: Alfred Dunhill Championship

Reasons For Support:

A winner of this championship back in 2008, Karlsson is a solid links style player who has a string of top 15's at the Alfred Dunhill including his win and a 3rd place finish two years before. Third last week at the British Masters, Robert Karlsson has been at the very top of European Golf in years gone by and is one of the best ball strikers on the tour even all these years later, he can take confidence from the British Masters performance into this week and go very close at the home of golf.

Player Chris Williams

Event Dutch Senior Masters

Reason The South African is ranked number 1 on the European senior tour and that been due to some very consistent scores in his last 5 events where he's not finished outside the top 10, he won the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters earlier this year but it's his recent form that is so impressive and must give him a great chance of being near the top of the leader board for his 6th successive tournament.

Player: Jamie Lovemark

Tournament: Safeway Open

This event is not as strong as most on the PGA tour and has often been won in recent years by players obtaining their maiden PGA victory so I am hoping that Jamie Lovemark can obtain his first PGA win this week. He is from California where this event takes place and has been playing quite consistently in the last few months with just one missed cut in his latest 12 PGA tournaments with his best efforts being a jt 10th at the Memorial Tournament and a jt 3rd at the Greenbrier Classic. He was jt 20th here in 2016 and could improve on that effort this week especially if he putts better than usual.

Player : Azahara Munoz

Event : Ladies open de France

Reason for Support : Azahara won the Andualucia open de Espana last week in her home country and I think she can go well again in not a very strong field. She is one of the top players over the years on the Ladies European tour and has enough class to be in contention come Sunday. Also she has won this event in 2013 and 2014 with another top 10 thrown in for good measure. gl all

Player: Thorbjorn Olesen

Tournament - Alfred Dunhill

Reasons - A recent winner of the tournament (2015) and a runner-up in 2012, it is the tournament he has been most successful in his career, also, with wind speed looking at picking up to 30km/h this may suit Olesen's game more than many of his competitors. He has had a good, but somewhat inconsistent year however there have been good performances at the France Open and Nordea Masters. I also like to consider psychological implications of the pro-am pairings and while some of the high-profile celebrities may put some golfers off their game, Olesen has been paired with a fairly low-profile businessman so this shouldn't affect him too much.

Player: Tommy Fleetwood

Tournament - Alfred Dunhill Links

Reasons for support: Babies are expensive creatures and Tommy Fleetwood acquired one--I think it's his first---at the end of September. With another mouth to feed, he needs to get back to the grindstone and the earnings trail. Due to that forthcoming event, his mind probably wasn't fully focused on his last tournament in mid September, the Omega European Masters where he failed to make the cut. Prior to that, he had made the cut in his previous 7 successive tournaments. They included his win in the French Open, his 4th place in the US and a T10 in the Irish Open. He is currently in the lead in the Race to Dubai. In total, he has posted 9 Top Ten finishes from the 18 events he has played throughout this season. He also won in Abu Dhabi at the start of the year.

Player:Kevin Na

Tournament:Safeway Open

Reasons For Support:Kevin is a player that I like to follow early in the season when a lot of the big guns have decided to take their holidays. He lost in a play off at Silverado in 2015 and scored a decent 15 under then.He went well also last season when he finished in the top ten also on 15 under. He finished last season in good form and his liking for this place makes me think a first win on the PGA tour since 2011 might well come here, the 28/1 available looks a little bit of value to me.
