Haven't had a lot of time to look at the games on offer this week but one that does stick out for me is in the North East. West Ham are on a terrible run at the moment having lost their last 4 games. The demise fof Mr Curbishley and the introduction of foreign management has not transformed the club as yet - even the coup of securing a top coach from Chesea has not had an impact and the graph showing their results is certainly not a healthy one.
Two long trips in a week is something players at the top, who are not involved in Europe, are not used to especially when you have no points gained in the month of October.
Middlesbrough, on the other hand, are a team that seem to know how to grind out results from opponents who sit in the second tier of the premiership and I fully expect them to take home advantage today.

Middlesbrough let me down last week especially as West Ham threw away their opportunity yesterday - I see that Mr Zola is going to carry on with his belief but he first of all needs to get his players to battle for 90 minutes and not 80. Their stamina obviously ain't what it should be. Although it wouldn't have done me any good - Middlesbrough could have actually got a point out of last week's game as they had a perfectly good goal disallowed. So, this weeks game sees me sticking with the Boro as over the last three seasons they have managed to secure at least a point at Villa Park and with Villa having to travel many miles in the last six days I believe that they will be jaded and heavy legged today especially with the monsoon weather we have had over the last 12 hours. I am not brave enough to pick out the correct score - although the last two seasons have ended one a piece - but I am going to the Asian Handicap as a little insurance.

Just two games left for me to pick from for this week - I have been tempted to go with my beloved toffees but I do hate giving them the kiss of death by backing them. So I am going for the game at the KC. Manchester City have one point from their awaydays so far this season. Mark Hughes has had to go to the headmaster's office like a naughty schoolboy this week to explain his poor homework. How frustrating is that - to have to take effectively two days out of your week to travel over 5 hours in a plane to justify their position when his squad need him to gel and plan for this week's fixture. In addition, Sparky has two less players to choose from due to red cards and an already suspect defence from a team that doesn't exactly defend from the front will be under serious pressure this weekend. Man City have not got to the stage like, to a certain degree, Real Madrid where the philosophy is that if the opposition score two we will score at least three. Hull, by all accounts have been unlucky in their last two home games with defeats but I think this will change tomorrow. They are a team that, like their nickname, are tigerish and want to play for each other. So it is a big ask and I am going with a substantial amount for the win but I believe they can continue Man City's poor away record.

Missed the main games yesterday in time to make a choice - but it appears that it was just as well as there were many blanks being fired although in retrospect I should have gone with my gut feeling for a Man City result especially after Monsieur Gallas seems to be wanting to desert, to what, in his opinion, appears to be a sinking ship. Anyway, moving on - I was looking at the game at White Hart Lane today but I just can't bring myself to make a prediction of a home win which is where I was going. I was watching the Sports Exchange programme on Friday night and they were talking about laying and that under the current results climate you should not be backing a home team with short odds in the premiership outside of the big four. Tottenham and Blackburn come under this. And looking at Blackburn's away results this season they do have a knack of scoring regularly albeit not getting the results. The arguement against this is that Harry has picked the games that Ledley King is going to play as there is a strong liklihood he will have to retire at the end of the season due to his knees. That is a plus - the big minus is the guy between the sticks and any team must be confident of applying pressure in the six yard box to get the ball in the back of Gomes's net and you can be sure that Alan Ince has been working on this. So after all this and with limited choice of Sunderland or my team on Monday who I never bet on - it has to be this game. But my choice will not be 12X.

Looking at this week's fixtures - I have opted for a 15.00 kick off again which puts me under pressure to make a pick without any spiel. Many apologies.

Them pesky last minute equalisers - don't you just hate them - still they do say a 2-0 lead is never enough to win a game.

I am staying in the noreth east today because I am really tempted by whats on offer for a home win - Arsenal are not the unbeatables they used to be, as we can all see, and are a club in transition.

Come on the boro - now I never thought I would hear myself say that but you have got to admire their board for sticking with Gareth Southgate who quietly gets on with the job of endeavouring to improve his team and make it a consistent one. I really do fancy the odd goal victory.
