Glastonbury 2016 headliners

Postby LustForLeith » Sat Jul 11, 2015 2:24 pm

Hi everyone,

I wrote a blog previewing next years Glastonbury festival and now it's time to put my neck on the block!

Have a look at my blog for a in depth view but here's what I'm thinking.

Paddy Power are offering odds on the headliners on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday and they might be a bit generous.

Adele is the current favourite after being spotted at the festival but she suffers from nerves and might struggle with the massive crowd and exception. Foo Fighters said to be in contention after pulling out when Dave Grohl broke his leg but organiser Emily Eavis said the headliners were arranged already and that was before Grohl broke his leg.

I think the festival is taking a year off after next year and organisers have said they want to go out with a bang.

There's two names I like the look of to headline the Saturday although in fairness I could see them headlining any night!

Taylor Swift has conquered the charts, beaten Apple and got herself a Scots boyfriend. She's in the middle of a world tour and playing to sold out shows everywhere.

She's got that appeal as well. She's mainstream but loved by loads. She's got loads of hits and would probably be suckered in by the whole vibe and not complain about it too much (looking at you Paloma Faith!)

She's 50/1 which I think is worth a wee nibble.

Another female singer who could have a chance is Rihanna. She's due a new album out soon after being quiet for her standards. Again she's got the hits, she's mainstream but loved by many and she'd put on a great show.

She's also 50/1 to headline the Pyramid stage on the Saturday.

I've backed both of them with a small punt. Neither of hyphen might headline or they could do different nights which would knacker the bet!

Rihanna to headline Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2016 Saturday night 50/1

Taylor Swift to headline Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2016 Saturday night 50/1

No insight from me other than it'll be a pop act, a rock act or an 'urban music' act . It is impossible without 'inside information' to get a handle on this but here are the odds for the Saturday headliner from Paddy Power and the Sunday headliner from William Hill.

Interesting...

Ladbrokes are offering odds on headliners for any night.

The odds are obviulsy shortened compared to specific nights but gives the punters a fairer chance.

I really like the look of The Libertines. They played a not so surprise act this year to much acclaim. They've headlined T In The Park And Reading and Leeds this year. The much anticipated album is out soon.

There's a question mark over the bad holding it together but after a stint in rehab Pete Doherty seems to be fine. It's a long way away but I think they"ve got a chance.

The Libertines to headline any night at Glastonbury 2016 6/1

Watching the first show of the new 'TFI Friday' and Chris Evans says he knows who's doing the Sunday night slot at Glastonbury for the next THREE years. Some people are trying to decipher what he whispered to Mark Owen...Ed Sheeran or ELO apparently. This is possibly some kind of a weird joke.

This is of course, from a man who kept under wraps that he was going to host 'Top Gear' despite his odds collapsing and he kept on denying it until announcing it not too long ago.

As Lust has stated, Ladbrokes have odds on 'To Headline the Pyramid Stage on any night':

Adele 1/5
Coldplay 'evens'
Foo Fighters 5/4
Muse 6/4
Blur 5/2
Oasis 3/1
Radiohead 3/1
Prince 3/1
Ed Sheeran 3/1
AC/DC 3/1
Rod Stewart 3/1
Sam Smith 4/1
Fleetwood Mac 4/1
Pink Floyd 4/1
Kate Bush 5/1
Bruce Springsteen 5/1
Led Zeppelin 5/1
Rihanna 5/1
Elbow 6/1
Lady Gaga 6/1
Stone Roses 6/1
The Libertines 6/1
Mark Ronson 8/1
New Order 8/1
Dr Dre 8/1
Royal Blood 10/1
Taylor Swift 10/1
Neil Young 10/1
Public Enemy 10/1
Depeche Mode 10/1
Madonna 10/1
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 10/1
Stevie Wonder 12/1
Drake 12/1

Madness 16/1
Duran Duran 16/1
Bon Jovi 20/1
The Spice Girls 20/1

I'm a bit sceptical about people saying they know who will headline Glastonbury. Still burned from Michael Eavis saying that a headliner had never been to the festival before only for Arcade Fire to be announced. But still doesn't stop me betting!

Also, I think they've got a wish list of who they want and sometimes this doesn't go to plan. If you believe The Who they only took over from Prince after his Purple Highness got cold feet over his booking.

Now Adele in advance talks to headline Glastonbury apparently.

Interesting enough Rhiannas odds have been cut. She's announced her world tour and is in the UK at Glastonbury time.

She might, might announce more dates so won't be able to play Glastonbury, depending on how her tour sells. But Paddy Power have cut her from 50/1 to 6/1...

Worst kept secret finally out as it is indeed Adele headlining on Saturday.

Muse are headlining on Sunday as Coldplay move to Friday. An "OUCH!!" then for William Hill who were offering 16/1 back in July 2015.
