Australian Open 2018 Tipping Competition - £200 on offer

Postby PompeyJim » Wed Jan 03, 2018 12:50 pm

OLBG are offering members a chance to win a share of £200 in our FREE and easy to enter Australian Open 2018 Tipping Competition.

The tournament and tipping competition gets underway on Monday 15th January and concludes with the Men's final on Sunday 28th January.

Plenty of added interest in both the Men's and Ladies draws with the returning 'mum' Serena Williams having not played in a Grand Slam since winning this title last year and the Mens draw sees last year's rejuvenated champ Roger Federer bidding to retain his title and currently heading the betting with the continuing doubts surrounding the participation of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray whom along with Stan Wawrinka didn't play a competitive ATP match after the summer in 2017.

Entry:

You do not have to enter this competition separately. If you are a member of OLBG then you just need to make a tennis tip (with a comment) in the same way as for the monthly tipping competition via the 'Make a Tip' menu -

http://www.olbg.com/members/maketip.php?id=9

Prizes:

£50 x 1, £25 x 2, £10 x 10.

The prize structure is £50 to the tipster (winner) with the highest level stakes profit at the end of the competition, £25 to second and third and then £10 for members placed 4th-13th. The fund is in addition to the normal monthly prizes which you can still win based on the criteria for the monthly Tennis competition.

As usual, prizes are doubled for Elite Tipsters and trebled for Super Elite Tipsters. Check details for your current tennis status via your 'My Performance' page (link below) if unsure -

https://www.olbg.com/members/myperformance.php

LSP

This means Level Stakes Profit. So it doesn't matter if you select a stake of 50 or 500 for these tips. If you place a win tip on a 5/1 winner, you will then have a LSP of + 5 points. If you then have three losing tips, you lose 1 point per losing tip and your level stakes profit will be down to + 2 points.

LSP>0

Members must finish the competition with a positive level stakes profit to potentially qualify for a prize as we don't pay prizes for negative LSP's !

Tips 15 or more.

A minimum of 15 tips must be placed on the Australian Open 2018 to qualify, any members placing less than 15 tips over the duration of the tournament will NOT qualify for a prize even if finishing the competition with a positive level stakes profit.

Markets Available

All markets available to tip on for the Australian Open 2018 will count towards this competition, this includes Win Tournament (Men & Ladies) and match markets (win match, set betting, first set winner, total games 2 way, number of sets 2 way and handicap 2 way games won) etc..

Tipping Table

The competition tipping table can be viewed via the link below, some results may require manual processing which may not update until the following day.

https://www.olbg.com/tables/events.php?id=8

Tipping Comments

You must add good comment reasoning as to why you are tipping each player, match market etc when the tip is placed, tips without comments are excluded.

Poor comments won't count, we just need a few good reasons as to why you are choosing the selection. The minimum requirement is at least 20 words explaining why you think your tip is a good bet for OLBG site and app users to follow.

Also no copy and pasting of comments, you will need different comments for each tip! For example, duplicating a comment word for word for a player to win the match, the first set and set betting is not allowed and will be deleted. If the comments are not deemed of a good enough standard then those comments will be deemed void and removed which may result in the tipster not winning a prize.

Comments will be checked during and verified when the tournament has finished so if tipsters can make sure that their comments adhere to the rules, are clear, well written and punctuated as they are displayed on the OLBG website and mobile app for OLBG followers. Lots of visitors are now following the advice, so let's show them the quality on offer !!

Murray confirmed as out for the Aussie Open. Not really a surprise and doesn't affect my own thoughts on the tournament. He would have likely been seeded 16th so there'll be a few relieved players in the top 8 who may well have had to face him in the 4th round.

Federer remains 9/4 favourite

Nadal & Djokovic both looked fighting fit at the Tie-Break Tens event today. Obviously it's a lot different to gruelling 5 setters in the Melbourne sun but both look set to give the Aussie Open a crack.

Like Murray, not sure if it really affects my betting too much as I'd be looking to avoid both players given their recent injury concerns.

I keep coming back to Dimitrov. He's going to be seeded 3 and hopefully he'll avoid Federer until the Final. Djokovic is seeded 14th so someone in the top 8 is going to be pretty nervous as he's a dangerous 4th round opponent. Federer vs Djokovic in the 4th round anyone?

A cull of seeds on day one in Melbourne including Isner, Sock & Anderson.

If you look at the bottom half of Q2, all 4 seeds went out and Kyle Edmund finds himself with a great chance at making the 4th round. Of course, the top half of that quarter has both Dimitrov & Kyrgios so they'll be fancying their chances of going a bit further

As undertherobe mentioned we've seen a few seeds fall by the way side already in the first two days, some more surprising than others.

After the first two days it's very tight at the top of the tipping competition standings with alexcosta19 just shading things on 17.5 closely followed by botev1921 on 16.8 and ronaldihno on 16.6.

The latest standings can be viewed here - https://www.olbg.com/tables/events.php?id=8

Some intriguing clashes are scheduled for tomorrow (early hours UK time!) to wet the appetite, Shapovalov against Tsonga they met in the US Open last year with the young Canadian winning in straight sets and Pablo Carreno Busta against recent ATP winner Gilles Simon should be interesting.

On the ladies side Gavrilova against recent Hobart winner Mertens looks a close call, Duan against Ostapenko could be a possible banana skin for the French Open winner.

All tomorrow's matches are live on the tipping menu, so don't forget to add those tips before burning the midnight oil !

We were treated to some cracking matches on day 3, Tsonga coming through in five against Shapovalov after being 2 sets to 1 down and 5-2 down in the final set.

Wozniacki had to survive match points and managed to turn around a big deficit in the final set to edge through to the third round.

Mertens was 5-0 down to Gavrilova in the first set and had to save break and set points at 5-4 before winning the set 7-5 and taking the match in straight sets.

Dimitrov finally prevailing 3-2 against McDonald meant the competition table has a similar look to yesterday with the same members filling the top 3 spots but we have a new leader in ronaldihno on 17.8, alexcosta19 follows on 17.5 with botev1921 currently in third spot on 15.2.

Some interesting matches coming up in the early hours on day 4 -

Novak Djokovic
takes on Gael Monfils, the all German clash between Peter Gojowcyzk and Alex Zverev could prove tricky for the latter expected to go well in Melbourne.

Maria Sharapova meets Sevastova who beat her in the fourth round of the US Open back in September.

Lesya Tsurenko looks a tricky opponent for Radwanska and Bouchard may trouble Halep in the final ladies match of the day.

Don't forget to get those tips on nice and early, all the day 4 matches are live on the tipping menu -

Konta and Muguruza losing in straight sets means it's all change at the top of the current competition standings with ibrahimovic88 now setting the pace on 42.8 points followed by Sonny7 (39.5) and angelov (39.1) in third.

Thiem coming from 2 sets down to beat Kudla 3-2 thwarted another major swing in the current standings.

Coming up on day 5 in the early hours we have some interesting match ups namely Dimitrov taking on Rublev and Kyrgios taking on Tsonga which should be explosive!

The ladies draw sees the young 15 yo qualifier Kostyuk take on favourite of many here Elina Svitolina.

The matches scheduled for Days 5 and 6 are available now on the tipping menu -

Simona Halep was BRAVO yesterday, winning to E.Bouchard. Now let's wish for her also to beat L.Davis on Saturday, and then collect our winnings. :eyebrows:

Good luck with Simona Halep pandabear123.

With no major surprise results on day 5 we've only seen angelov (39.1) and Sonny7 (36.5) swapping places for second and third respectively at the top of the table.

The latest competition table standings can be viewed here - https://www.olbg.com/tables/events.php?id=8

Day 6 brings us some intriguing clashes with Chung taking on Alex Zverev, Gasquet v Federer and Berdych against Del Potro.

Match of the day could be previous grand slam winners Angelique Kerber taking on Maria Sharapova in the ladies draw.

All the scheduled matches for the next two days are available now on the tipping menu -

Good luck with your tips.

Very tight at the top with less than a point separating ibrahimovic88 on 43.5 and Sonny7 with 43.3, angelov is in third spot on 38.5.

Check out the latest table standings here - https://www.olbg.com/tables/events.php?id=8

Looking at the upcoming matches in the early hours (UK time) we have the four remaining quarter finals headlining on the tipping menu and with Kyle Edmund already having secured his first grand slam semi final spot by beating world number three Dimitrov, it's Sandgren and Chung's chance to emulate Kyle with the victor of that clash looking to face the winner of the other remaining quarter final between Federer and Berdych.

There's two cracking ladies matches with former number one Angelique Kerber taking on US Open finalist Madison Keys and the other clash sees current number one Simona Halep take on previous number one Karolina Pliskova.

The early odds markets are filtering through on the already confirmed semi finals so plenty of tipping options on the menu -

No change at the top of the competition table after completion of the quarter finals in both the men's and ladies draws.

All 4 semi finals are on the tipping menu and with the games running out it may be worth a look at some of the other match markets like correct set score, total sets and games etc...

In the early hours UK time on Thursday we have both the ladies semi finals taking place with in form Elise Mertens taking on Caroline Wozniacki followed by world number 1 Simona Halep against former number 1 and previous Aussie Open champ Angelique Kerber.

Then it's Kyle Edmund's chance to reach his first grand slam final when he takes on former US Open champ and Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic.

Can not wait for tomorrow's match between Halep and Kerber. It will be intense. I will be supportive of Halep, of course.
