The Sun Play First Impression

For this review I played on the desktop and mobile versions of The Sun Play, as there is no app available currently.

I quite like the homepage here. Rather than send me to every game going, there’s just a few, and instead there is a bit of info about each game type. It’s as if they're providing a more gentle introduction to proceedings. Once you click through to “All Games”, you can then see everything on offer, using their sliding menu bar to find which game types you’re after. Overall there feels like there is very little waste across the site, with pages simply dedicated to what they’re supposed to do.

What is great about The Sun Play

The best thing about The Sun Play is definitely the number of games – there is an incredible amount. For slots alone we’re talking over 1,000 games, while each other section is covered in terms of quantity and quality. Even for types of games that can be overlooked, or ignored completely, there appears to be plenty, scratch cards for example. There should be plenty here to keep players coming back. The only expedition to this is poker, which isn’t represented at all.

What is not great about The Sun Play

While the welcome offer is, overall, a decent one. The terms and conditions for it aren’t amazing, and a wagering requirement of x65 is quite large. It would definitely be better if this was reduced, but maybe we’re getting picky.

The Sun Play Promotions

On top of the welcome offer there are a couple of extra promotions that players can take advantage of, in fact there are actually quite a lot. 

Just at the time of this review (I’m aware this may change depending on time of year) there is a Air Fryer Giveaway, a £2k Slingo Bonus Giveaway, a few different ways to win free spins and cash drops and trophy rewards.

On top of that, players can win Just Eat vouchers, Amazon vouchers and prizes through the casino’s Happy Hours (Wednesdays 3-7pm).

Here, with over 1,000 different slot games, you’ll struggle to think of a slots player who wouldn’t happily play here given the variety on offer.

The Hot Slots section isn’t massive, which is nice to see, so a good place to start. Included at the time of review is Fire & Roses Jolly Joker, Gold Rush Express, 9 Masks of Fire, Mr Pigg E. There is a decent selection of progressive jackpots at The Sun Play, with the prize fund reaching tens of millions. Within the Jackpots section you’ll see game tiles, some of which have a “Jackpot” banner, as well as those with a “Super Jackpot” banner.  You’ll find Enchanted Prince, Bouncy Balls 2, Temple of Iris 2 and Shaman’s Dream 2.

The Sun Play Live Dealer

The Sun Play has a really good selection of live dealer games, over 40 in total. Among them live versions of roulette, blackjack, game shows, poker and baccarat. Found within the Table Games part of the site, all table games are grouped together and I can see a pretty good selection of each, including Speedy Roulette, Blackjack Sports Arena 2, Multibet Baccarat and Casino Lobby.

The Sun Play Live Studio Games

Sometimes overlooked, it’s nice to see some studio games at The Sun Play. Players can explore a selection of titles with coin flips and money wheels,among others, all inspired by famous TV shows. Among the titles are 7s on Fire, Vegas Ball Bonanza and Travel Fever.

Navigation and User Experience

The navigation and UX at The Sun Play is really good, even if you don’t realise it at first. The site is relatively clean, and it feels like lots is going on (understandable given the sheer amount of games), but very quickly, once you start playing, you realise how logical the layout is. I had absolutely no issues when looking for different games, whether on mobile or desktop. The search tool is fantastic, and lists all results (while giving you the exact number of search results eg the number of options available). 

To improve it, it would be nice to see table games divided up by game type, and it would be great to filter by game supplier, or see the supplier’s name or logo on the game tile. 

Managing your account

By clicking on the icon at the top, next to where you sign in, you’ll get a new page open with everything that you need. It’s here that you can see your balance, transaction history and account details. It’s also where you can withdraw and deposit, verify your ID documents, as well as find additional links to safer gambling features.

Summary 

There’s nothing that The Sun Play is doing that is breaking boundaries, or reinventing the wheel, but I get the impression that that was never the plan from the start, either. There is a clear strategy to provide casino players with a huge library of games to play – they’ve done that, and then some. 

As a casino they’ve put all the bells and whistles to the side and filled their product up with an extensive array of games, no matter what you’re into (poker aside). That’s not to say that the site, or the product overally, isn’t good. It does exactly what you want it to and I had zero issue in terms of finding games, playing games, or any buffering/loading or anything like that when playing live games.

I reckon the intention was to give people loads of great games, from the best developers, and leave them to it. It’s a very solid option and I can see their player retention being very high indeed, given the product that they produce.
