The ever-consistent MR VANGO comes into this race in fine form, having won his first three starts this season before being beaten by a short head last time out. He has gone up 3 lb since that last run, but he’s back up in trip today and gets his testing ground. He likes to dominate races from the front and might get some competition for the lead from Myretown, which is a slight negative. However, even at the age of ten, he is a very progressive sort and will take plenty of beating if getting his own way in front. (NAP)

This will be the furthest that L'Homme Presse has raced, so hopefully his stamina will hold out. In his career he has won a couple of Grade 1s. He finished third in his first race of the season, which was at Cheltenham nearly a month ago. Last season he won his second race of the campaign off a mark of 163. Like today, that race was in January, and today his rating is down to 162.

Out of the handicap here by a fair way courtesy of L'homme Presse, but that gives this horse a feather carry which has seen him thrive in recent times. The softer the better for him, seemingly, so hopefully the ground has come right for him. A repeat of his Beecher Chase third can see him bang there. A Welsh National winner off just 4 lbs lower than this, he just has to be entitled to some respect having had a couple of spins this season. With the hope of increasing his mark for a tilt at the 2027 National, he certainly will have to be getting competitive here to start that road.
