3:30 Newbury Tips

The 6yo ran well at Group level as a youngster. He was poor in his seven starts last year. However, a new yard and a seven-month break saw him in a better light on his second run back two weeks ago. He was runner-up, losing out late that day in a similar Class 3 handicap. The drop down from 8f to 7f should suit him. He can take another step forward. He was racing off a 21 lb higher mark this time last year.

Last five starts have been uninspiring, but there are a few things I like about Brian in this Class 3 handicap. Back into a more suitable class (Class 2 when last seen). Soft ground will suit. David Probert booked. Five places on offer, and here off a mark of 90. Has form here last October when second of 13 with the ground soft off a mark of 95.

In fantastic shape. He is aiming for a hat-trick after clinching victory in a 7f race at Kempton last month. He performs well over 7f and is still reasonably handicapped, making him a likely each-way candidate at 14/1.

Has been racing in Bahrain last winter, where he posted a couple of good placed efforts. He can be excused for his last run at Chester. He has won here in the past, including over course and distance, and is given another chance. Billy Loughnane takes the ride.
