Tips From The Racecourse for Musselburgh

Musselburgh is Edinburgh’s race track, situated a couple of miles outside the city.

The course offers both Flat and National Hunt racing throughout the year; flat racing accounts for nearly double the number of races compared to National Hunt.

Highlights: Over jumps, the big race at Musselburgh is the listed Scottish Triumph Hurdle Trial run in early February. Many good hurdlers go on to run at Cheltenham or Aintree from this race, as well as the Scottish Stayers Novices Hurdle, which serves as a trial for the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham.

There is also the Class 2 Scottish County Handicap Hurdle, which attracts plenty of decent hurdles and the Scottish Champion Chase, which also attracts some decent types.

On the flat, they play host to a couple of class two handicaps, with the Queen's Cup being raced in April and the Scottish Sprint Cup taking place in June.

Musselburgh Draw Bias

✅ Backing stall 9 at Musselburgh over a trip of 5f is the most profitable stall and trip combination at Musselburgh, returning an LSP of +62.00 over the last five years.

❌ For the least profitable stall at Musselburgh, you need to look at races over 7f and focus on stall 1, as this has produced an LSP of -84.75 over the last five years.

Here we have the draw bias for Musselburgh taken into consideration in races with ten or more runners. We will break down the figures by race trips. Draws can be much more important in shorter trips, where runners do not have time to find their position during the race, meaning the draw is probably more important than in races over longer distances.

  • Sprints (5f to 7½f)
  • Mile (1m to 1m1½f)

The following table shows a breakdown of a group of trips and shows how each position of the draw does, for example, in a twelve-runner race would be Low (Stalls 1-4), Mid (Stalls 5-8) and High (Stalls 9-12). The positions will always be the lowest stall number to the highest.
