The 5yo was beaten just a length at the end of last month, poor draw that day and beaten by three rivals rated 73+. He now faces rivals rated 46-62 and has a good draw in stall 1 for this 5f handicap.

I don't like the favorite here. Yes, he has placed many times but can't seem to get his head in front. So, I'm opting for Nelson Gay, who is a Mehmas gelding trained by M Dods with Cieren Fallon up. Placed over this course and distance on debut here, he has solid form at 5f with seven wins and ten places from 51 runs, showing me better consistency on similar going than the market leader. Effective in a tongue strap and blinkers, he can challenge if allowed to settle and use his sharp speed here.

Useful mare was raised 6 lbs for winning over 5 furlongs at Chepstow in June. Followed that with 2 placed efforts and wasn't disgraced at Windsor last time. This looks a good opportunity.

Race 4 at Lingfield today is a Handicap (Class 6) for 4-year-olds and upwards over 1,011 m. The suggested wager is for the straight win on the 7-year-old gelding Vitalline from the Karl Burke yard, and it will be ridden by Josephine Gordon. This son of Due Diligence has been running consistently well recently. What is noticed is the shorter the distance, the better he has performed overall. He was the favorite in the most recent race over 400m further and should be better here. He loves this course and polytrack. Big chance on best form.

I think we can forgive COLORS OF FREEDOM for the last time out run, when he made a total hash of the start at Wolverhampton. The run before that at Chelmsford from this mark was a close run thing, and he was sent off joint favorite, so in a race of similar quality, this looks a massive discrepancy. Drawn wide, but that's not quite such a disadvantage here.
