Conman John only got up from a stablemate by a short head at Kelso, with Great Fleet back in third. He won a Class 2 novice hurdle over course and distance last time, from Great Fleet again, and showed that he was a decent staying hurdler. He now has to give the field at least three pounds but should follow up.

They Call Me Hugo has scored an impressive point-to-point win, made a winning debut under rules at Ffos Las, and appears to stay well on testing ground. I think the big question mark will be the level of race he's contesting in, but he looks capable of defying his inexperience.

The 5yo was picked up by shrewd owners after a smart PTP win last winter. Well clear of the rest on his hurdle debut five weeks ago when beaten 3L in a novice hurdle, not given a hard time and beaten by a useful-looking prospect. The selection should be better for the run. Top yard/trainer, and the fact that they are happy to run him at Grade 2 level is positive.

Did very well to win at Kempton despite giving the impression he wanted it a little softer and definitely further. Sure to improve for the distance and very good value here.

Represents the dangerous Twiston-Davies stable at their lock track. While his last run was poor, the step up to 3 miles could unlock his dormant stamina reserves. In a small field of novices where jumping errors are common, a steady, rhythm-based round could see him pick up the pieces if the favorites falter. He previously showed decent ability (form figures 1-2-1) and may be overpriced for a place.
