4:50 Catterick Tips

Filey Beach has won 3 of his 23 starts and bids to follow a course-and-distance win in an apprentice handicap here last week. That was his second win over 7 furlongs at Catterick, and with no penalty for last week's win he looks to have a good chance of following up.

Short-priced favourite is the obvious choice here, running again at Catterick off the same mark as his win last time out. But I want to take him on here with Saisons D'or. He's 11 years old now but loves it around this track. Winner last time out too, and that form has been franked. Running off a career-low mark on the turf. If you're looking to find some value in this race, he ticks all the boxes.

Emerald Army looks the value angle in the 4:50. The market is built around Filey Beach, who is clearly the most likely winner, but Emerald Army has a setup that could suit at a much bigger price. He is a previous C&D winner, returns to 7f, and is drawn high in a race where the draw looks favourable toward that side. His recent form is not flashy, which is why the price is there, but there was enough in his latest run to suggest this return to 7f can help. He also has Ruth Carr's stablemate Filey Beach helping frame the race, but Emerald Army is the one at a price with a less obvious upside. At 12/1, he looks overpriced relative to his course, draw, and trip setup.

Won on third start last season for previous yard so after a couple of spins on the all weather should be cherry ripe here returning to turf. 3lb higher than that last win but gets a 2lb pull for a couple of lengths defeat to the reopposing Saisons D'Or from Southwell and could improve here so shouldn't be a much bigger price than that one. De Sousa a good booking and this one looks to have a cracking chance if the ground is not too soft as best form is on a quicker surface but looks ready to strike for shrewd outfit.

He's a previous course-and-distance winner whose experience could make the difference today. This looks a more realistic opening than some of his previous races. He should be sharper from his comeback run and has enough track know-how to bounce back.
