Pau Racecourse Guide

The Hippodrome de Pau first featured horse racing in 1842 and is situated in southwestern France, set along the Pyrenees mountain range.

Pau is famous in other sports, particularly motorsports and holds the title of being the city that staged the first-ever Grand Prix.

In 2006, the racecourse underwent a major renovation, increasing the facilities to accommodate larger attendances, which now attract over 150k visitors each year.

The track is the home of jumps racing; unlike most courses, it features an all-weather course that is outside of the turf courses.

It is a right-handed track except for some chase races, which are run in a figure of eight.

The most prestigious race at Pau is the Grand Prix de Pau, a Grade 3 Chase run over 3m2f and takes place in January of each year.

Racing takes place between December and February, plus an additional three meetings in April. Outside of that window, head over to the racing tips page for tips elsewhere.
