I expect More Thunder to come on significantly for his run in the Lockinge, where I was happy with how he saw out the trip at a mile, convincing me that the stiff uphill finish shouldn't blunt his speed. He's a horse I've followed closely and I think there will be significant upside for having that run under his belt and my understanding was that his work wasn't quite as sharp as it could've been in the run up to that race. Notable Speech is a worthy favourite, but the price is short given he's disappointed twice at this meeting and I'm happy to take him on. Opera Ballo is a threat, but has to prove he's up to group 1 standards (he might be) and Docklands is probably a 'safe' ew option, given the course form, but I'm happy to start the meeting entrusting William Haggas to get us off to a flyer.

I'm very surprised based on his form that GBR has drifted to a very backable ew price. He's looked very smart in his two starts, beating Carry the Flag LTO in impressive style, needing most of the 6f trip (he looks certain to improve when stepped up further) and quickening up nicely. He's bred for the job, being by No Nay Never by a middle distance dam and whilst there are plenty of contenders, the yard have won 11 runnings of this and with 4 places available, he looks the right bet.

American Affair goes into this race as the reigning champ and I was very impressed with his second run back in the Temple after looking very much in need of the run at York in the new Minster Stakes. At 8/1 he looks sure to run his race and I also like the chances of Night Raider, winner of the Temple, but I think Jim Goldie's horse has kept improving and this race has likely been his target from the moment he won last years race.

The Royal horse will be all the rage here for the Gosden's but I've gone for one who looks on an attractive mark for this shrewd yard who keep finding winners at the highest levels of the sport. He's had 2 runs over hurdles this year, both over what appeared to be trips short of ideal and this step up, off 92, looks manageable with plenty of potential upside.
