This looks like a typical newly promoted side clash, with neither team wanting to start by giving away points. Sunderland, moreover, proved last season that they can compete at this level, finishing seventh, while Ipswich have a new manager in Gary O'Neil.

I like Palace for one very specific reason: tactical consistency. Oliver Glasner is still in charge, and that could prove important on the opening day, when several rivals are still finding their feet. Everton have David Moyes and home advantage, but Palace can cause a lot of damage by attacking the spaces after winning the ball back.

This is one of those matches I'd be wary of predicting with too much confidence. Forest have appointed Vítor Pereira as their new manager, while Leeds have Daniel Farke, a manager who knows the dynamics of English football inside out. I can see Forest trying to dictate the play and Leeds looking much more comfortable biding their time to exploit the spaces. That could end up cancelling each other out.

A 1-1 draw is probably the result that best reflects the balance of the game. Forest have home advantage, but Leeds pose enough of a threat in attack to respond.

It's one of the most likely scenarios for this fixture because a back-and-forth exchange of goals could leave both teams unable to score a second.

I reckon it'll end in a draw, given the nature of the match. Brentford can cause a lot of damage with their pressing, set-pieces, and quick counter-attacks. Tottenham have more individual talent but may need time to adapt to their new system. I wouldn't be surprised if Tottenham dominate possession and Brentford create the most dangerous chances.

City are embarking on a new chapter under Enzo Maresca following Guardiola's departure, but they still have a squad built to dominate matches. Bournemouth, too, have a new manager, Marco Rose, so this is a rather demanding fixture to start with. The key, in my view, will be City's ability to pin Bournemouth back. If they can regain possession quickly after losing the ball, the visitors could spend many minutes unable to break out.

This is my pick for a draw this matchday. Brighton may have more possession, but Villa have players capable of exploiting the spaces when Brighton lose their shape. What's more, Villa still have Unai Emery in charge and are coming into the game with a much more stable squad than several of the teams that are debuting a new manager this weekend.

I'm going all out on the home side here. Liverpool are kicking off the season under Andoni Iraola following Arne Slot's departure, and making their debut at St James' Park isn't exactly the ideal setting for a new project. Newcastle can make it a physical game, drive down the flanks, and force Liverpool to defend a lot of second-ball situations. For me, they're one of the best underdogs of the round.

Another match where I think it's risky to blindly back the favourites. Chelsea have a superior squad, but they're also embarking on a new era under Xabi Alonso. Fulham, on the other hand, know their home ground inside out and could force the match to be played at a much less comfortable pace for Chelsea. If Chelsea don't score an early goal, the match could quickly turn into one of those tight London derbies.
