  • The defending Super Bowl champions have opened as +550 favorites to repeat.
  • The 49ers and Eagles are co-NFC favorites at +900.
  • The New York Jets will open third favorite in the AFC at +1400.

Teams primarily build their rosters in two ways: via free agency and the NFL Draft. The former requires deep pockets to compete for top talent, while the latter requires expert scouting and gamesmanship during the three-day, seven-round marathon that is the NFL Draft. Now that the dust has virtually settled on NFL Free Agency, teams rosters are starting to take shape and as a result sportsbooks have begun altering odds to win Super Bowl 58 in Paradise, Nevada.

It should come as little surprise that the defending Super Bowl champions have opened as the favorite at +550. Patrick Mahomes won the MVP last season and valiantly carried the Chiefs to their second championship in four years on a bum ankle. These odds are fairly par for the course when it comes to a Super Bowl favorite. In the past ten years, the preseason favorite has opened in the +400 to +600 range, with the exception of the 2017 New England Patriots who opened at a paltry +275 to win it all (Lost To PHI in SB LII).

Every year a team comes from off-the-radar and makes a deep playoff run. At their current odds (+5000), the Chicago Bears are an interesting play in the watered-down NFC.

Big winners in free agency saw their odds fall to win the Super Bowl. The Chicago Bears dropped from +7500 to +5000, the Detroit Lions from +3500 to +3000 and of course the New York Jets whose odds plummeted from +4000 to +1400 on the assumption that they will be completely a trade for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers, facing a rebuild, have fallen from +4000 to +5000 and are joined by Tennessee (+6000 to +8000) as a team heading in the wrong direction in the eyes of sportsbooks.
