  • Lamar Jackson turned down a three-year, $133 million fully guaranteed contract from the Ravens.
  • It is believed Jackson is seeking a contract on par with Deshaun Watson's five-year, $230 million deal with the Cleveland Browns.
  • If Jackson plays this year he'll receive $32.416 million courtesy the franchise tag.

The 2019 NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson, wants to be paid a king's ransom. Not only does he want over $40 million per season, but he'd like that deal to be multi-year and fully guaranteed. Why does he think this is reasonable? Because Deshaun Watson signed a five-year, $230 million deal with the Cleveland Browns last offseason, thus resetting the QB contract market. After months of contentious contract negotiating, the Ravens and Jackson are no closer on a long-term deal. That opens up the possibility of the Ravens trading Jackson to a team willing to meet his contract demands. Sportsbooks continue to offer odds on who that team may be ranging from likely suitors to long shots.

Lamar Jackson's 2023 NFL Team

Teams Moneyline Probability
Baltimore Ravens +200 33.33%
Las Vegas Raiders +1000 9.09%
Chicago Bears +1200 7.14%
Washington Commanders +1500 6.25%
Tennessee Titans +1500 6.25%
Atlanta Falcons +1500
6.25%
Miami Dolphins +2000 4.76%
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2700 3.57%

Lamar Jackson is 45-16 (63.7%) as a starting quarterback in the NFL. He is, however, just 1-3 in his four postseason starts with five interceptions and just three passing touchdowns. He finished the 2022 season 8-4 as the Ravens' starting quarterback and ninth in QBR.

A team like Atlanta is still seriously in the mix for Jackson, if they are willing to pay him the money he's demanding.

With the Jets likely to complete a trade for Aaron Rodgers this week and the Raiders now paying Jimmy Garoppolo to be their QB1, it's increasingly likely that Jackson will play out the 2023 season under the franchise tag. In that case, Jackson would receive $32.416 million for one year's work. According to Jackson's twitter he turned down a three-year, $133 million fully guaranteed contract from the Ravens, so it appears unlikely that the two sides will find common ground before next season kicks off.
