Amelia Earhart probably would not have been seen as a likely Oaks favourite until her final two-year-old race in a mile maiden at Leopardstown, where she made most to win by seven lengths. She wore a first-time hood and blinkers to win the Cheshire Oaks, where she followed stablemate Sugar Island until a furlong out and was then asked to win the race.
