My Mate Alfie improved throughout last season, finishing with winning his last three races, beating Big Gossey into 3rd place in his final race, giving him five pounds here over six furlongs. He comes here fresh, and it is his first time over five furlongs as he started his two-year-old career over 6f at the Curragh and has just run over six to seven furlongs in his first two seasons. But he should be capable of picking off both Big Gossey and Two Stars late on over five furlongs.

There was not much between War To Remember and Helicity last time, fighting out a finish here but ultimately finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively behind a fast-finishing King Stephen. Drawn in stall 1 this time, compared to Helicity getting the outside stall, should give War To Remember sufficient advantage to reverse the placings.

Schilflied has improved with time and got a deserved second win over course and distance last time out and is probably the main threat to favorite Cloe, who has to give her two pounds. The six and a half furlongs on the turf here has a right-hand dogleg in the first furlong, which disadvantages those drawn low unless they expend early pace. So, Cloe might be vulnerable to a strong finish from Schilflied. She could not catch Jungle Peace in her penultimate race but lost ground with a stumble at the start.

Likewise, stablemate Gentleman De Mee impressed in winning the Topham. Both have mainly run left-handed, but Gaelic Warrior jumped to his right at Aintree and could go well at right-handed Sandown if avoiding mistakes chasing down Ascot specialist Pic D'orhy, who is winless at Sandown.
