As he jumped to the right at Plumpton, a right-handed track like Kempton should suit him better. The handicapper may have been more generous to Fortune De Mer, who won at Cheltenham, but it remains to be seen if he is as good away from Cheltenham.

Wasthatok has only run once over fences, and that was after joining Kerry Lee from Gavin Cromwell in January 2024. He was rated on a mark of 120 for a two-mile handicap chase at Hereford. He made an early mistake at the 3rd fence and weakened from 3 out, finishing 6th of 8, beaten 41 lengths. Now with local trainer Phillip Kirby, he won his latest run over two and a half miles hurdles comfortably off a mark of 94, which he retains here. If he manages to stay over three miles one furlong over fences, he could follow up.

Merry Monty looked an unlucky loser at Uttoxeter on his first run for 633 days since he gained his only win in a handicap chase at Taunton over two miles two furlongs by over eight lengths, after which he was put up nine pounds. At Uttoxeter, he jumped from fence to fence in the lead until clipping the final fence and losing momentum on landing, and being passed by two horses on the run-in over two and a half miles. On a faster surface, his stamina for two and a half miles should not be a problem up another pound.

Former French mare Place De La Nation has only had two runs for Willy Mullins. They were a decent 2nd to Karoline Banbou at Fairyhouse in a maiden hurdle after a 139-day break since running in France. Then she finished 5th in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. If fit and ready for the new season, she should be far too good for the rest of the field.
