A further win at Kelso over three miles in May pushed his mark to a high of 97. He has gone off the boil since over fences and underperformed back over hurdles last time at Musselburgh in December, but a return to Newcastle off 88 could spark a revival.

Willie Mullins is setting up a clash between two of his Triumph Hurdle hopefuls. Both won their only starts at Auteuil: Proactif in September by eight lengths, pulling away on the run-in despite a mistake at the final flight, and Macho Man won on 1 October by five lengths, despite looking a bit raw and leggy, but pulling away comfortably on the run-in. Macho Man might shade it, as his long stride could be decisive on the run-in.
