As he jumped to the right at Plumpton, a right-handed track like Kempton should suit him better. The handicapper may have been more generous to Fortune De Mer, who won at Cheltenham, but it remains to be seen if he is as good away from Cheltenham.

He also won last time at Uttoxeter 544 days ago on soft going off 137, and now on 142, the handicapper may be giving him too much to do in giving a stone to Lord Baddesley, who won easily at Newbury off 121 and can follow up off seven pounds more.

He has improved over fences, however, coming off a 231-day break to win comfortably in a three-mile one-furlong handicap chase here at Catterick and almost followed up, unseating 4 out when in the lead here. Could be well handicapped back over hurdles.

Wasthatok has only run once over fences, and that was after joining Kerry Lee from Gavin Cromwell in January 2024. He was rated on a mark of 120 for a two-mile handicap chase at Hereford. He made an early mistake at the 3rd fence and weakened from 3 out, finishing 6th of 8, beaten 41 lengths. Now with local trainer Phillip Kirby, he won his latest run over two and a half miles hurdles comfortably off a mark of 94, which he retains here. If he manages to stay over three miles one furlong over fences, he could follow up.

Causin A Commotion has been his only runner in November, coming off a 114-day break here at Newcastle over 6f. After going close up a furlong out, he faded to 10th of 14 in the final furlong. He has now dropped to a basement mark of 47 and drops in distance to 5f, which is worth trying. Three-pound claiming Alex Jary takes the ride.

Merry Monty looked an unlucky loser at Uttoxeter on his first run for 633 days since he gained his only win in a handicap chase at Taunton over two miles two furlongs by over eight lengths, after which he was put up nine pounds. At Uttoxeter, he jumped from fence to fence in the lead until clipping the final fence and losing momentum on landing, and being passed by two horses on the run-in over two and a half miles. On a faster surface, his stamina for two and a half miles should not be a problem up another pound.

They were a decent 2nd to Karoline Banbou at Fairyhouse in a maiden hurdle after a 139-day break since running in France. Then she finished 5th in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. If fit and ready for the new season, she should be far too good for the rest of the field.

She would not need to improve on that performance to win here.
