This hunter chase looks to be a match between Java Point and Jeffery's Cross. Both ran last time at Ludlow in hunter chases. Java Point won on slightly better going than Jeffery's Cross, who inherited second place to Barton Snow. They will both face even deeper going at Southwell, which is likely to suit Jefferys Cross as a confirmed stayer.

Two months later he returned over fences to be beaten a short head on heavy over three miles two furlongs, so he can cope with a slog in the mud.

He is two pounds better off with the winner and was only a short head behind Noire Wulf after leaving his challenge late on the far side of the track, then drifting across the course to challenge the leaders. Shabrack won a handicap hurdle here at Auteuil in October before being outclassed in a Grade 1 hurdle here in November, ten days before the Compiègne race. He runs well fresh and could turn the tables.
