If Masked Man makes as many mistakes as he did last time, Sticktotheplan will come out on top despite giving him five pounds.

Now with Anthony Honeyball, Chad Bament, taking off his seven-pound allowance, rides her for the first time.

Kabral Du Mathan switched stables from Paul Nicholls to Dan Skelton after last season and has also had wind surgery. After winning first time out this season at Kempton, he was runner-up in his other three runs, twice beaten in photo finishes. He now goes beyond two miles for the first time, but he appears to be a strong finisher, so stamina may not be an issue. He runs well fresh, so the 224-day absence may not matter.

Unfortunately, his jumping has let him down in some big staying chases. But right-handed Ascot might suit him as an easier jumping test. He has previously only run once right-handed over fences at Hereford when with Syd Hosie. He is well-weighted on a mark of 131, his winning mark from a year ago when he won over three miles at Doncaster.

If Lossiemouth is fit and ready for her first race of the season, she should have too much pace for her three rivals here. Even though she may now be better over slightly further after opting out of the Champion Hurdle last season.

Whilst Gabriels Getaway made late progress to chase down Teddy Blue in 2nd place, Shakeyatailfeather had a more troubled passage. First, finding room to move out and then having to jump over a faller two out, and could only manage to reach 5th place. Although still out of the handicap, Heidi Palin rides and takes off seven pounds, and she could finish much closer.

Whistle Stop Tour's chasing career fell apart after winning two consecutive handicap chases last December and January. He was 5th at Cheltenham after a mistake at the last fence. Then next time at Cheltenham, he lost all chance when badly hampered at the very first fence and was pulled up, leaving his stablemate Myretown to win at the Cheltenham Festival. After two further poor chase runs at Perth, he showed his well-being with a close 2nd of 7 in a three-mile handicap hurdle at Ayr. That could set him up for a better run over fences at Haydock.
