Local colt Taj Mahal takes a big jump in class here in the Preakness Stakes, but he is unbeaten in three runs. Last time he ran away with a stakes race over course and distance, blasting away from the stalls from an outside draw, then settling in front down the back straight. When the chasers caught up approaching the final bend, he kicked away again and won comfortably, eased down at the finish. An inside draw this time needs a similar fast start.

Burnham Square is yet to win in three attempts at Churchill Downs, but last time he won a Grade 2 race on turf at Keeneland by ten lengths over 12f. He was held up until the final bend, came wide, and kicked on to come clear. He now has to give the field five pounds but should be capable of winning.

Leopard Du Berlais was a top-class performer last year, winning three hurdle races at Grades 3, 2, and 1. His form since the turn of the year has not been as good. He was beaten into a closing third place by Edamura, and last time he tripped over a flight going out into the back straight before the race had developed. Delmegan came through to win from a closing Isaac of York, with Mountain Ridge third and Edamura fourth. If Leopard Du Berlais is fully recovered, he could bounce back to win.

Kivala Du Berlais is the young pretender for this race. She ran down Kolokiko to win a Grade 2 chase here over a shorter trip in her first chase. There is no reason to think she cannot stay the extra distance if held up again, as she finished strongly over the last two fences to catch Kolokiko on the run-in.

Former pointer A Little Something is still to win a race but ran well in defeat last time when 2nd at Fontwell. Off the same mark, she could win this mares' handicap chase at Stratford.

Metronomique has an excellent winning chase record at Compiègne but suffered a clumsy fall at the second fence on his penultimate chase here at Auteuil. He got up quickly and had a run around the course, not always on the chase track. If he gets a clear round at Auteuil this time, he should win.
