Dunnington Lad has raced three times on ground described as soft or heavy. He is 1-3 in these conditions with the win coming at 33/1. Carrying only 8-0 in this race, he cannot be entirely ruled out at massive odds. All his wins have been over today's distance of 5 furlongs. Dunnington Lad has won for an apprentice rider. Olivia Haines takes over in the saddle and her seven pounds allowance can come in useful on this straight track.

Seven Questions represents successful owner Mrs Fitri Hay who is showing a level stakes profit of £95.56 on her 4yo+ turf runners over the last five seasons. Sprint expert Robert Cowell, who has saddled a winner and two placed runners from his last six entries, trains the horse. Seven Questions has scored on soft ground at 6 furlongs and should be keeping on over today's 5.5 furlongs distance. He has dropped four pounds in the weights since his last success. Doncaster can suit as he has won on the galloping tracks at Leicester, Newmarket and Yarmouth. Seven Questions scored at 33/1 in first time cheekpieces and can go well today at big odds in a first time visor.

Fox Journey won three races when with Sir Michael Stoute, including in today's Class 3 company. Now with Kevin Ryan, he needs to regain last season's good form. The horse has only raced in Class 2 events this season and the drop in class today should suit. His record on today's forecast soft going is 4333, two of those races being Class 2 handicaps. Fox Journey's career best effort came over today's distance of 12 furlongs. All his wins have been on the galloping tracks at Newbury and Newmarket. Doncaster should suit. Third in the valuable Melrose Handicap at York over 14 furlongs, Fox Journey's stamina can help today and he can make the first four places at big odds.

A chance is taken on Cheeky Boy running into the places at big odds. This raider from the Czech Republic has form at home, but the main thing is that he did well on his French debut, placing a close third of eight at 46/1 behind an odds-on favourite. Soft ground and 12 furlongs looked to suit, and he will get those conditions today. From an Aga Khan damline, there are some useful types as close relations, namely Ashkalani, who was 3-3 at Parislongchamp, including two Group 1 successes, and who won on this day in 1996. Cheeky Boy's sire, Holy Roman Emperor, was 1-1 at Parislongchamp (a Group 1 success). The damsire, Nathaniel, landed the King George over today's trip and went well on soft ground. Cheeky Boy looks too big to ignore at massive odds each way with the nine runners.

Trainer John Mackie has few runners in National Hunt Flat races but is showing a big level stakes profit over the last five seasons in this sphere. This is thanks to his sole winner, last year's 66/1 scorer Off To Alabama. That horse was making his racecourse debut so a similar contender, Dartmouth Jet, is worthy of consideration. A plus point with this lad is that the sire is a high-class stayer (won Yorkshire Cup) and the dam is a five times flat turf winner. This debutant could spring a surprise at big odds.
