Young Churchill is given an outside chance at big odds with just the seven runners. This is his first time on Polytrack, but his best flat form has been on a sound surface, so this may well suit. Young Churchill makes his handicap debut, having placed twice in maiden races. His third placing of 2/2 at Curragh over 10 furlongs reads well in the context of today's event. The horse has not worn a hood before on the flat but is fitted with one today. Chris Hayes looks a good jockey booking.

Since Tony Culhane and Stella Barclay took out a joint licence, they have had 14 runners. Yet to have a winner, but half of their runners have placed and a winner looks due. They are represented today by Sir Benedict. This veteran of 76 races may not be as good as he was, but today's Class 6 event has only seven runners and he can go well at big odds. The horse is on the same mark as when going close at 20/1 over today's course and distance at the beginning of December. He never travelled on his latest outing and cheekpieces are removed.

Bryan Carver, who has been in the saddle for both of John W. Creasy's wins, regains the ride. The horse was going well last winter, improving over fences, with both of his successes coming in testing conditions: soft and heavy ground. Today's going will suit. John W. Creasy was beaten a long way on his latest outing, but his wins have followed a next-to-last and a pulled-up, so his inconsistency may not stop him today. Yet to do it over a long distance, but his stamina-packed pedigree suggests today's trip will suit. He is brother to Midlands Grand National winner Mr Vango.

Renewable Dream drops in class and has also dropped in the weights. The horse paid the price for placing in a Class 4 Newcastle novice event but has been eased three pounds by the handicapper. Renewable Dream had been showing improved form in August and September. His latest outing came after a break of more than three months and may have been needed. The horse raced prominently for his two third-placed efforts in autumn, and similar tactics can suit today as he exits stall 1. Renewable Dream is still a maiden but is related to some useful types down the dam line, including dual Group 1 winner Lethal Force. Renewable Dream drops in distance to 7 furlongs, and this can suit. His half-brother Dubai Time has recorded both his wins over today's trip. Trainer Seb Spencer has saddled a recent winner.

The horse returned last month after an absence of more than a year and may have needed his two runs for his new stable, as well as time to acclimatise following his move from Ireland. Dropped six pounds in the weights compared to his chasing debut, Aill Dubh has got in here off a low weight, further reduced by the three-pound claim of Alice Stevens, who can do 10-1.
