Crypto Force

Daily Racing

140 WIN

@+4000

-140

Crypto Force represents trainer Robson De Aguiar, who saddled a winner on Friday. An entire horse, Crypto Force should be fit from his recent racing at Dundalk. In those races he was not partnered by Amo Racing Limited's retained riders, but today Rowan Scott has travelled for the ride. Crypto Force's best form has been in the spring, notably when he was beaten just over four lengths in the Group 1 Prix Ganay at Longchamp. The very soft ground appeared to suit on that occasion. Also, he has landed the Group 2 Beresford Stakes over today's course and distance (yielding ground). Crypto Force has not raced on soft ground for a long time, and it is hoped he can regain his best form at big odds.

Tuscan Hills returns from a long break but did win on his racecourse debut. This horse makes his handicap debut having been highly tried in the Dante Stakes and Derby (became unbalanced) when the distance looked to be too far. He is better judged on his comfortable success in a Pontefract Listed race over one mile on soft ground. Conditions would appear to suit today, and retained jockey David Egan is in the saddle. Trainer Robson de Aguiar saddled a winner on Friday.

Soft ground and the distance should make this a tough test. Better Off Alone has a stamina-packed pedigree, and this race can suit. His best chasing performance came when wearing cheekpieces in December. These are back on today (they were not worn last time). The horse's career-best run came over hurdles at around today's distance on soft ground, and he has run to two pounds off that rating over fences. Yet to win, Better Off Alone is related to plenty of jumping winners down the damline, including Ryanair Chase winner Riverside Theatre. There should be more to come from Better Off Alone.

Two-year-old colt Bull Shark makes his racecourse debut for the in-form stable of Robson De Aguiar. This expensive yearling is a son of Mehmas, who won his first two races at the age of two. Bull Shark is related, down the damline, to the high-class two-year-old Woodborough, who won a big two-year-old race at the Curragh, the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes, and placed second in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes. Bull Shark has a sister, Shelton, who did well at the Curragh, winning a two-year-old race and placing second in a Group 3 two-year-olds contest.

Menzies appeared to appreciate the step up in distance to one mile on his second outing, and that resulted in an improved performance when he led all the way in a Kempton maiden race. He left the field strung out on that occasion and looked potentially useful. The colt will find things harder today carrying a penalty but looks to stay well and can be suited by Southwell, where races are regularly run at a good pace. A notoriously gruelling test of stamina on soft ground. Last season, less than half the field completed the course when the going was good to soft, and one of those was Bodhisattva. He was beaten a long way but, more importantly, kept going and completed in his own time. It is not out of the question that the horse could make the first five places today by keeping on, and his very big odds make him interesting. Bodhisattva carried 10-4 last year and is set to carry the lowest weight this time, 10-2, after Alex Harvey has claimed his useful allowance. Bodhisattva has form in the Ulster National and Edinburgh National marathons, and his best form has been on soft ground.
