River Derwent has gone well here at this time of year, with wins in November, January, and February. Operating at a level below his best for some time, his connections persevere. Racing off a considerably lower mark these days, the horse is given an outside chance.

Yquem was unsighted in three maidens, but it looked like more was expected when, upped in trip, she was sent off the 4/1 second favourite at Ffos Las in June. By Wootton Bassett out of a winning Galileo mare, it is reasonable to assume that we have not yet seen the best of Yquem, so the filly is given a chance here at an each-way price.

Flying Macs has been dropping in the weights and, with two third-placings under her belt this autumn, may be ready to take advantage. The filly has shown ability at today's distance on Polytrack and, if Tapeta suits as well, can make the places exiting stall 2.

Fistral Beach represents the stable of John Mackie, who is showing a level stakes profit of +15.58 with his 4YO+ AW runners this season. Up in the weights since a success at Wolverhampton in April, the filly is gradually coming down the ratings. She may need a further drop but is a course-and-distance winner and could make the first four places at decent odds.

Yoshimi scored at Southwell in January and is seven pounds lower in the weights today, so has to be given a chance at big odds in this low-grade handicap. Noted making headway last month here under Jonny Peate, Yoshimi may be about to hit form.

Alrazeen is a course-and-distance winner, which is a plus over tonight's very long trip. A winner here a year ago, his subsequent hat-trick of victories did him no favours with the handicapper, but the horse is now back to his last winning mark. Luke Morris, who is 3-5 on the horse, regains the ride.

A bargain-basement handicap with a course-and-distance winner, Hezahunk, racing off a mark of 40. The horse scored off that official rating here in April (50/1) following a string of unplaced efforts, so there is no reason why he cannot pop up again at a price. The winning rider in April, Patrick McGettigan, regains the ride, still claiming a seven-pound allowance, but with three winners in the last fortnight may be a better jockey now.

Formerly with Richard Hannon, Dapperling has moved to the Scott Dixon stable, which is adjacent to today's track. A Goodwood winner at Class 5 level in June, Dapperling has the form to go well here and is two pounds below his last winning mark.

Slowdownbarney has been narrowly beaten on four occasions on this track. His neck defeat at Wolverhampton in April off a mark of 66 reads well in the context of today's contest, as the horse has dropped five pounds in the weights since then. This lad stays very well and may need further, but could make the first four if the pace is decent. He is racing at big odds, so I will chance him each way.

Caramay had a great run from September 2024 to January 2025, winning five of eight outings. Following that, the mare had risen 22 pounds in the weights and found it tougher. Now four pounds lower than her last winning mark, it is hoped that this course winner can regain the winning thread.

Spun DMC is out of a dam who has produced two multiple-race winners. The colt earned a good speed figure when landing his debut race. He was not so good next time after a long journey. He has reportedly settled in at Oaklawn. His trainer is quoted as being happy with stall 6. The booking of Luis Saez looks like a positive move.
