02:00 Argentina v Algeria

Algeria

50 WIN

@+750

I think Algeria are very underrated against this Argentina side, who don't look anything special even with their big names. Algeria have beaten the Netherlands and drawn with Uruguay this year, and there could be a shock result.

Both teams are capable of scoring. Argentina score in most, if not all, of their recent games. I think Algeria are better than the odds they are quoted.

I'd be surprised if both teams don't score, as I think they are more evenly matched than the betting suggests. Argentina score in most games, and Algeria could win.

Algeria are totally underrated and I think they will win. It's a punt whether it will be a draw or Algeria-Algeria at half time, but there's no point sitting on the wall.

Norway

Norway have not been in the best form recently comparatively, but should still be too good for Iraq. The odds are against Iraq, but it may be closer than the odds suggest.

The odds say both teams won't score. As much as I think Norway will win, I think Iraq have battled their way through qualification and will play a rebound game and score.

I think Norway will win, but Iraq are overpriced and will give Norway a good game. Iraq have the players to score, and I expect them to hit the net.
20:00 France v Senegal

France

France, as one of the favourites to win this competition, looks to have a pretty easy opener against Senegal. Senegal are World Cup veterans now but don't seem to be any better.

I think Senegal will find it hard to score, but France will not and will score a hatful. France are one of the top teams here and have not lost an opening game.

France should win and score more goals. Once they have scored, they will gain confidence and continue to score. They may change the lineup at the break, but all players will want to make a mark, so there will be no letup.

Ghostwriter

Daily Racing

50 WIN

@+800

Lose

-50

Ghostwriter is hard to assess as he has been off the track since Royal Ascot last year. He was a class or two above the standard of this race, though, and if he has trained on and is fit he should win.

-50

This is another difficult race at Royal Ascot. Looking through it, I'm not very sure about some of the fancied horses. Ismahane, trained by Paddy Twomey, has good form on the continent and looks a shade big in the betting in this open race.

Puerto Rico

Daily Racing

50 WIN

Bow Echo is the worthy fav here, and rightly so after winning the 2000 Guineas by 2.5 lengths. Puerto Rico went to France instead and was beaten 1.5 lengths in a G1 worth more than the 2000 Guineas. 12/1 is a big price for this A.P. runner.
15:40 3:40 Royal Ascot

Overpass

Daily Racing

50 WIN

@+332

Lose

-50

Overpass will need luck here, but the truth is that he has top-class form racing all over the world in Group/high-stakes races. Even though this is traditionally a big-field race, the top three in the betting do very well.

More Thunder

Daily Racing

50 WIN

@+350

More Thunder was beaten 2 lengths by Notable Speech in May at Newbury, but I feel More Thunder will reverse that form today. The stiffer course at Ascot will be more to his liking, and he came on leaps and bounds last season. He could well have more to come.

Uruguay have Marcelo Bielsa as their coach, and he will give them an edge against this improving but average Saudi Arabia outfit. I think it may be closer than the odds suggest.

Belgium

Egypt are unbeaten in their qualifiers and have Salah playing, so they will be in good spirits. They have never won a World Cup game, and I think their chances of beating Belgium are slim. Belgium have a host of new blood??"Jeremy Doku, for one.
17:00 Spain v Cape Verde

Spain

Spain are in great form and are one of the favorites to win this competition, so they should have very little trouble overcoming Cape Verde. Cape Verde are not that bad but have it all to do here.

This is a very poor race. The runners are very poor, and a lot of the riders are as well. Louie the Legend looks more capable than most. He will like the ground and has won at Chepstow, which is not every horse's cup of tea or nosebag. Fletcher Yarham is not Ryan Moore but has more of an idea than most of the jocks here.

Japan and the Netherlands are not bad at finding the back of the net, and I think they both will and the match will end in a draw. Japan are an energetic team and will put pressure on from kickoff. They will very likely score first and open up the game.

Sticktoyourguns was impressive in his two runs as a 2-year-old. He was well developed then, so the hope is he has grown even stronger. He has won up the Sandown hill, and his stable is in good form. Every chance.

Hard Endeavor

I think Hard Endeavor may come to life here. Down the field in his only start this season, but he had a very bad draw and probably needed the run, so was not given a hard time. Lots in here with something to prove, but no eyecatchers, so Hard Endeavor at 22/1 looks a decent punt.

Jungle Ruler has not quite lasted home in his last three runs, but I think Chester, with its stop/start due to the sharp corners, will help him out. It's an open race, and I have tipped the two outsiders. I can only do one win and one each-way.

Sir Albert

Daily Racing

50 WIN

@+2800

Sir Albert has had one bad run, and it looks in the betting for this race that he is written off. He has been highly tried and has won here, so I think he has a better chance than the odds suggest.

The USA look probable winners here. They are an improving side and, in front of their home fans, will be hard to beat. Paraguay are good defensively but have trouble scoring. Brenden Aronson will run the opposition into the ground.

South Korea

South Korea score most of their goals in the second half of games, which is sometimes down to their ability to keep up a strong and fast pace. They score a lot of goals from set pieces. A tight game.

Charging Bull is the outsider in the field today, mainly because he is inconsistent, but also because his stable is out of form. He seems to be slowly getting the hang of things, and Cieren Fallon on board may make the difference and get him up.
