There is not a lot between some in this race, and with some returning from breaks, it is difficult to gauge how much they have progressed. I am taking a chance on Telemark out of the Crisfords stable. He has won 3 from 10 races, being gently brought along, but the ground being on the firm side is against his liking according to previous form. If he can act on this ground, he would have a massive chance for his in-form stable.

This is a very poor field; they don't come much worse. I am going for Top Biller as he has already won a race and has run okay in his other starts. He flopped on his first run for this stable but was sent off at a big price, so nothing was obviously expected of him. Could be a different proposition this time at a decent price.

Zuffolo is the outsider here, but he has stall 1, which is good. He obviously prefers a galloping track but has come into this on a winning mark. While not confident, I feel he is overpriced and worth a slight shout.

Brazilian Rose has shown massive improvement in the last 6 months for Rebecca Menzies and obviously loves Newcastle, having won here 3 times this year. Stepping up in class, as are most of them apart from the James Tate runner, she has an excellent chance.

A race full of old favorites, many of them reaching the end of the road but still in with a shout. I like Valentine Catcher running for trainer Tim Easterby, who seems to have had a poor time with his charges compared to a couple of years ago. This one has been lightly raced but looks to be an improver and has won both times after having a break.

Livio Milo has won once, and that was at Galway in soft in a maiden 2 years ago. Moved now from Dermot Weld to S England, he could be well placed here. Looks to have a bit to find, but his best runs have been on better ground, and he may come up trumps tomorrow but will get a tariff if he does.

Willie Mullins runs Kappa Jy Pyke, who ran well winning at Punchestown in January and was then thrown in the deep end. Was 100/1 at Cheltenham in the Turners behind The New Lion and will have come on a lot for that run and looks a live outsider in this lesser race.

Get Jiggy With It was obviously well thought of when she started as a 2-year-old for Charlie Hills, running in some high-class races and not doing too badly but not winning. This left her with a high mark, but although it still looks on the high side, the new surroundings after a break to mature may bring the class to the fore.
