The favorite here has let connections down twice and is nothing special, which personally encourages me to look for an outsider with a chance. This is more of an idea in novice events such as this, where sometimes no one knows how their charges will run. Nothing at all was expected of Prodigal Son in May at Newbury, as most of the runners were from the elite stables. There are a couple in this race that may be half-decent handicappers, but that is it.

This one looks a decent bet at a price in a race which looks pretty open.

Grantley Hall is pretty friendless in the market, as you would expect after only having one run in over 900 days. Add to that, she was pulled up in that race. Grantley Hall's owners have kept the faith, and her form seemed to be going the right way until her enforced break. I'm not sure what happened last August at Ripon, but she stumbled and seemed disoriented. This field is at best mediocre, so she may have a chance if she lives up to expectations and her luck changes.

There are a couple of reasons to back this one, and equally, the same reasons would put you off. First run for new stable after leaving William Haggas could indicate the former stable had not any more to get. Naqueeb, however, was highly tried. Both his last runs had a purse of 300k. In this lower company, if fit and still near his best, he could make his mark.
