He has won 2 of 6 races, and his best was last time off a mark of 124 when winning a snug four lengths, with the third 17 lengths further back in a 12-runner race. He was suited by the drying ground that day and looked to have more to come. In the context of this race, he has a good each-way chance against those ahead of him in the market who are racing off marks higher than they've won off.

Zeus Power seemed to be reaching too high at the Festival for Joseph O'Brien when starting at 50/1. He had only won a couple of low-class novices previously. However, they managed a 3rd place of 21 runners around this distance. He suffered trouble in running in the race and was also badly hampered. But he was doing good late work. Should be easier to navigate in this field on this course and can get involved.

Prairie Wolf has won the last 2 chases and is progressing well. Jack Tudor seems to specialise in big-field slogs and looks decent EW here. However, he has taken a couple of liberties in the last 2 wins that he may not get away with over these fences. Will The Wise is still only 7 and has scope to keep improving. He has climbed from a rating of 130 to 143 after only 7 runs. He had won a novice over 2m 2f, then ran two development races over 3 miles. At the festival they used a tongue tie and stepped back to 2m 4f and was 2nd of 23 behind Madara. They clash again here. Madara had been plotted up by the Skeltons for that race and looked all over the winner a long way out that day at 3/1 fav. Will The Wise had a nightmare start in that race and had to change plans to get back in and get competitive, so may well have finished closer otherwise. Madara is 10 pounds higher than he's been here, whereas Will The Wise is on a winning mark.

It may turn out that the Skelton team view Grey Dawning through rose-coloured glasses given the small fields in which they have gone close when strongly fancying the win. They now step down in trip and reach for the headgear, which hints at doubt in my eyes. They have to get the better of Heart Wood, who won the Ryanair over this distance at the festival from Jonbon. That race was worth £60,000 more than this, and that one is the target.

Wendigo has taken well to fences, winning two of five. Likes any ground and looked like running a big race last time at Cheltenham during the Festival when making relentless late ground only to fall at the last behind Kitzbühel (rated 157). Salver finished third there, but a reversal in this smaller field, better ground, and safer fences is a realistic outcome.

Indeevar Bleu is yet to be out of the frame and has Sean Bowen up but has only beaten single-figure sized fields. Emidio is yet to debut in Britain for the Skeltons, who bought him from France, and this is a big-field Class 1 handicap, so it's a big ask. Hot Fuss looks better, as last time out he took on 2m 4f for the first time after racing over 2 miles and finished 2nd of 24 in the Martin Pipe at the festival. That's good and shows improved form, especially given that the trainer is primarily a Flat trainer. Wellington Arch was 2nd in a better race at Newbury but beaten 15 lengths. He stepped up to test this distance in a lower-class 4 race and won as a prep for this. The horse has been backed in the last 24 hours from 20/2 to 8/1, which suggests there are at least some serious players who think a place looks realistic.

It's On The Line is ultra-consistent and genuine. It has been runner-up four times in Cheltenham's top Hunter race. It won this in 2024, and one of the best amateurs in racing retains the partnership.

Given the manner of Gaelic Warrior's Gold Cup victory, it's hard to look away from Jango Baie, who was runner-up. He ran on late there after looking a bit far back, so this smaller field and the calmer waters should ensure he can get a nice tow around and then take over late.

Lulamba was the biggest disappointment for the Henderson yard at the festival, finishing 3rd of 6 in the Arkle. He was bang there until a panicky jump 2 out and that was the end. He finished behind two Willie Mullins horses. This race is worth half as much money and he's rated almost a stone higher than the opposition in this small field. Fences are softer too, so it should just really take a safe round to get compensation.

The Triumph was an excellent race as usual and the first four home face off here. It should involve the contenders, but this is a flatter, tighter track. The weather this week in Liverpool may present ground that's good unless watered. Selma De Vary is the choice of Willie Mullins, and her fourth in the Triumph was excellent considering having to switch late after being hampered. Trainers have won two of the last three of these with fillies. Interestingly, front runners do well in it, and, significantly, they try a first-time tongue tie to presumably attempt it again and hang on.

Duhallow Tommy has a good chance to stay in front from the off in a small field, but Rip Wheeler might have the race set up for him. He likes to stay on, and this 2m4f distance may find the former out. Rip Wheeler ran on late last time, two classes higher in a £20,000 race, and the yards are in decent nick.

Reginald Charles is consistent at this level. He failed to win in 16 attempts on turf but has won 3 of 9 on AW tracks, and two of those were here. He notched a quick double last term but then failed in five races after. He kept on late last time following a break, and while only 6th of 12 he was only 2 lengths off the winner. He is only 3 pounds higher than his last winning mark, and the opposition isn't powerful here. Wrydcroft hasn't run in 6 months, and Camera Shy seems to pose the main threat after winning on Chelmsford/Dover (CD) last time. Camera Shy has an outside draw, though.

Real chase yet another big cup/league double here and have won this 15 times. It's significant that they lost in the league at the weekend to Mallorca of all sides just before this fixture. It suggests to me they were letting one go there. This is the oldest fixture in the competition (met 29 times). Beating Benfica 3-1 then hammering Man City 5-1 last time suggests they have this cup as a priority and are now gathering momentum at an ideal time. Bayern have had to rotate through injury recently but it hasn't halted their march toward another title, though they have conceded to attacking sides much lighter than Madrid. They still sit 9 points clear in this table, however. This game should be all about the strikers, and Real have the competition's top hitman in Kylian Mbappé, who should start alongside Vinícius Júnior. That, alongside their focus and home advantage, should swing it.

Until recently Arsenal were the subject of the obligatory pundit hysteria concerning their possible quadruple. But Man City beat them hands down at Wembley and, more worryingly, they were outgunned by Southampton in the FA Cup. They looked weary, and this game comes soon after. They have an unblemished record against tonight's opposition, but they were different sides then. CP have won their last 17 home games in all competitions, are scoring freely, and are still challenging for a top spot in the league. After a stumbling start, CP have since beaten Real Madrid and PSG. Those two scalps are the biggest in the game currently. Arsenal need to find extra gears here despite the fatigue, and CP are on a high. I see the visitors adding to the Gunners' woes with more impressive home performances.

Fleurman ended a long bad run last time when the mark slipped to 67 (had been in the 90s) and a small field as well as poly. That's a lot in his favour, so given the run not one to throw money at in my opinion. Mio Amico has won a couple recently. Much lighter raced, and the 10 runs have thrown up 2 wins, both on Polytrack, so I see more value and scope in this one.

JP has a large team as expected, so Mark Walsh is a useful guide. He chooses Showurappreciation from the less fashionable yard of Jonathon Sweeney. The horse has only had five chases but has won twice, both in 2026. He came from a long way off last time to run down a clear leader over 3m, so it looks like he can stay longer. The handicapper certainly thinks so, as he has thrown 9 pounds penalty at him. Better Times Ahead is a reliable stayer and jumper but is racing off a mark much higher than he's won at. That said, his last win was over this 3m 6f last season, and that's a huge ticked box; he may find the frame.

Kawaboomga can be the one. One run in 2024 and one in 2025 showed he can go in big fields. They were in much lesser races, but a recent run in 2026 was in a Grade 3 race. It was heavy going and two miles, and he came 4th of 7, only beaten three lengths. He came late that day as though needing a longer trip, met trouble late, and was closing again at the finish. This 2m 4f looks ideal, and for the time of year he will be very fresh.
