Sax Apeal has had easier opportunities than this in smaller fields on a variety of surfaces but doesn't seem gutsy enough to see a finish out. Could be vulnerable here, and Dance Time looks more consistent and reliable. Won two of the last three and, though only 4th of 8 at Kempton last time, was running on 2 lengths off the winner. Has winning form over this course and distance and can remain competitive.

Gordon Elliott couldn't be in better form right now and Son of Anarchy can continue the streak. Lightly raced and improving, he will relish this big field, distance, and ground. He has been placed in three races that had fields between 16 and 22 and won last time, beating 12 rivals here. With only seven races under his belt, there could be a lot more decent handicaps in him.

Jubilee Express was unlucky, finishing 2nd last year after the winner had pinched it. Conditions were gruelling and foggy. It proves he's a stayer and a jumper already despite being only lightly raced. Won here last time over a mile shorter in a prep. Mr Vango won the Midlands National over a muddy 4+ miles in March for Jack Tudor, who seems to excel in races like this. Ran in snatches over the Aintree fences last time in deep ground but got going again late to finish best, beaten a short head while conceding a stone to the winner. Both look likely to be involved all the way today.

Macktoad was aimed high for a debut and the joint favourite won a Class 2 at Sandown. Had a Skelron and a Nichols one behind, so on paper sets the standard. However, those behind didn't have great form. Sonic Pioneer was aimed lower at Class 4 at Kempton. Made a good impression for a new yard, winning by 14 lengths and wasn't slowing at the line. I can see Sean Bowen forcing this on the second circuit.

Surprisingly Man Utd haven't won at home for two months despite all the goals scored. Newcastle have only won one away in almost two months. Both are underachieving. With points like gold dust for both sides, it looks like this will be attack-minded for both all the way. Two unpredictable teams desperate for three points is an unpredictable fixture. What looks easier is the cards market. Neither of these sides prioritise self-control at the best of times, and the pitch may turn out to be a battleground.

He showed 3 miles is ideal when a close second last time, with the third well beaten. Looks forecast material.

So Chic isn't a prolific winner even at this level on AW but has four wins. Won off 55 over CD two years ago, then not again until 10 runs later when the mark slipped to 45. Won last time at 40/1 here at CD off 52, so is feasibly able to win again off 55, then removing 5 pounds via the claimer. Stewards were interested in the improvement last time, and the return to AW was actually accepted, thus making this run interesting now.

Ambient Friendly has been 2nd then won in two hurdle races and is improving obviously at this stage. However, he has been in a good lead both times and ended up having to fight. He may well set this up again for a finisher like Across Earth, who finished strongly to win last time in a better race at Sandown on soft. Had horses rested 1-2-0 behind him, so I’d be in on a decent mark and, with the claimers' allowance taking off three pounds, it will make it harder for Ambient Friendly, who will be conceding six pounds in all.

Latin has finished top 3 in the last 6 and won twice. The wins were at Southwell over this distance, but arguably the best runs were when 2nd and third here over 3 furlongs further. Ran well both times but didn't stay that extra yardage. Finally gets the best distance here today, so the usual standard should be good enough for this.

J P seems to hold the key here with the first two in the betting. Impose Toi has had a couple of runs (two wins) already and is still lightly raced. The Henderson horses are impressing or disappointing so far, so it could pay to oppose with the rival Honesty Policy who was improving rapidly at this level last season and is only 5. Gordon Elliott is doing pretty well on his raids from Ireland this season.

United Approach joined the Osborne yard recently. After a decent turf effort, he ran two good races in defeat on AW surfaces. He messed up the start but finished fast to be 2nd at Wolves. Then at Kempton he had another bad start and got stuck behind horses early. Though only 6th, he ran on fast to be less than 2 lengths behind the winner. Both races could arguably have been won, so he could be sneaking in off a false mark here and may well pay for the Osborne Christmas turkey.

Mick's Spirit is 7 and has over 50 runs and could be vulnerable to one less exposed. Son of Astar has consistent figures but is yet to show any on an artificial surface. Bluebells Boy last won in October and it was over this course and distance off a mark of 68. Since then he has run 11 times on turf as well as AW surfaces, and the risen mark of 74 has gradually fallen through no wins to a mark of 60 as he arrives back where the last win happened eight pounds higher.
