Ionian isn't one of the Henderson big guns, but it's early yet. He hasn't won in his two runs, so he steps up in distance now. The Boss Bear was gelded before running, then did well in two bumpers (??'21) before making a winning hurdling debut on soft ground over this distance. He was sent off 5/4f, so he must have been expected to be ready.

Brentford have shocked most with their continuing European form and have picked up in the league too. Arsenal's recent hiccups have done little damage to their drive for the title, as those just behind hiccuped even more. They remain 6 points ahead and we're heading for more European football soon too. Arsenal won't sit back, as a win would widen the lead to 9 points. That's a big gap. Brentford have won their last two games and are 7th. A win here would put them in a playoff position, as this is a game they have in hand on the few above them. I believe this game will be closer than the pundits suspect and it should have goals.

Carlton, on the other hand, almost made it a quick CD double last time with a good late finish. With the claimers' allowance received, a nice chunk of weight (11 pounds) might swing it.

Second with a penalty but came up against an improver that had won before and has won since off a 107 rating. That makes the mark of 98 here look good.

All Moonshine is in warm order early after two wins on Tapeta. Sure to go well with Murphy up and switching to poly. Jazzy Baby, however, is as progressive and, after two opening races in which she was green, was heavily backed into favourite here for a handicap debut and beat 12 rivals snugly, indicating all is well now.

Kakula Dancer was well beaten first twice on AW, then bolted in at Lingfield. The trainer's excuse for the big improvement was the benefit of a break. Failed to follow up with a 6-pound penalty at Southwell (2nd). The opposition is weak here, so can still go well. The Lingfield win is at least Polytrack form and the horse is still lightly raced.

Without Love has taken only 4 runs to get the hang of the course after two turf runs (both unplaced). Overcame all kinds of interference two races ago to finish well to be 3rd of 13 here over 1m 4f. Came back here for 1m 2f and again had to overcome interference but got up late to win. Could be slightly underrated given the problems of those races and can go in again.

Lucky Bere had a couple of flat wins and a few placed runs over hurdles before finally winning a hurdle race last time when stepping up to today's 2m 4f distance in heavy ground. He had won a couple in the heavy in his France days. That improved form looks the best at this stage.

Woodland Park has started as a short-priced favourite (below 7/4) the last five times and only won once. It doesn't seem reliable even at this level and is vulnerable. Tormund Giantsbane made an impressive winning debut but was then put in his place when tackling Class 1 for a £45,000 race last time. This is a step back to the earlier, lower level.

Might be EW value at this price. Had form in mud in France and begins with a first-time visor today in England for a yard that's very quiet this season. Can't ignore the trainer/jockey combo nonetheless.
