He recently dropped with more losses to a mark of 82. He won this race four seasons ago and now finds himself on a winning mark again in a small field on ground he relishes, soft to heavy. Trainer is local to the track.

Dolos Dream won once and placed in two of three AW runs last term. Had a break and returned this season to win well at Pontefract. Good, strong form as making all with the Pontefract uphill finish stands the horse in good stead to make all around these tight turns on a flat track. Should be able to defy the penalty.

Euphonia has benefitted greatly from switching to turf and even Morfeso last time trying soft ground. She won a very easy 4 L at Haydock and the handicapper wasn't impressed. Consequently she gets a big lift in weights, but a repeat of that last run and continued improvement should still make her the one to beat.

Patagonia Girl made all over CD to beat 14 rivals in Class 4 two races ago, on only the second race this season. She punched way above her weight after that in a Group 3 and was well beaten. Back down to early and in Class here to a CD she likes and only 4 pounds more than that victory.

Vidmiyr has looked better since turning to turf and has figures of 3-1-2 in 3 runs. The first run was very unlucky, as he hit traffic three times in the final furlong. He followed that by winning by 4 easy lengths at Ling. Last time he was second to an improver. Looks good, only 3 pounds up now.

Trouville's readiness has to be taken on trust, and the Murphy/Bowen combination hasn't exactly been pulling up trees in the summer jumps. James Owen's new recruit improved on debut to run a decent 2nd and should be involved. But Babs looked more improved last time and was backed to improve on her debut run. She went off 2/1 joint favourite and looked powerful until fluffing the final flight and showing inexperience. Was only beaten under 2 lengths and the third was 8 lengths behind. Only a slight improvement would be needed here.

Former Henry de Bromhead inmate Ata Rangi has done well in three seasons and 14 runs. He has shown winning and placed form on all ground conditions, including AW. His best races have been on cut in the ground and at 7 furlongs. He was 5th of 21 in heavy ground for an apprentice two races ago, then won for the same jockey last time at Haydock on better ground. He won for Kieran Shoemark at a class higher last season. He has the most positive profile here.

Maid In Devon is short based on his first win last time out being over CD and having Oisin Murphy in the saddle. Two earlier runs when 'soft' was in the going description were weak, so that and the 5-pound penalty might make it a little too short, all things considered. Grand Vista makes a handicap debut after three average runs and has Tom Marquand riding for the first time. Ran on good to soft on racecourse debut and ran on well.

Fighting Falcon had done nothing in a couple of hurdle races and then a couple of points with two different trainers. Changed yards again recently to this one, his third, and finally came good. With first-time cheekpieces (retained here) he won at Uttoxeter. At only 5 years of age he is by far the youngest in the race and has far more scope now. The trainer has only had four runners in the last two weeks but two have won.

Morvern won on good to soft last season and that was a sole win in her four races. She stepped up from class 4 to class 1 at Pontefract and was last of five. Obviously punching above her weight then. She had a recent blowout at Wolverhampton on the AW to be second and should be ready now. Back to class 4 and Rossa Ryan takes the ride for the first time.

Cherry Cobbler won an easy 3 lengths in a 'hands and heels' at Newmarket last time and had to face the stewards, where the trainer offered no explanation for the improvement. Possibly the mark falling from 75 to 67 had something to do with it, and the fact the race was back on turf, a surface he'd only run on once before. Trainer operating at a 1-in-3 winner rate, and despite the handicapper getting involved, he can win again now, seemingly enjoying turf and the recently added cheekpieces.

Joseph O'Brien took the Oaks easily to announce the status of his operation yesterday, so James J. Braddock has to be interesting. His father Aiden always needs to be considered here, and Benvenuto Cellini is his pick of an impressive team, so Item is left at decent odds for the baling-in-form team. Unbeaten in two last year, he made a comeback in the Dante over an extended 1m 2f and was held together until the final furlong where he hit the front and began to gallop away. He wasn't stopping at the line; if anything, he was going further clear. That looked like this 1m 4f was ideal, and he looked a well-balanced horse all the way. Providing the ground doesn't get too unpleasant, this could be the first son of Frankel to win the big one.
