Pure Carbon's most recent two races saw him placed in both. Had earlier won a chase at Mussl and is improving. The third last time at Ascot was in an 18,000 race behind a previous winner who is improving and this is a step down in class. Gets 4 pounds off Bond Braker who may have been a lucky winner last time due a fallen rival and easy lead.

Bayern Munich were involved in another thriller in Europe midweek, so may well be feeling that. However, should they win this, it would be the first half of the big double. They have now scored 105 goals. Stuttgart have been on a good run too and have been scoring frequently. They have their eyes on European qualification in 4th place. Hard to see a clean sheet either way here, but Bayern look as strong now as at any other part of the season.
16:30 Man City v Arsenal

Man City

300 WIN

@-109

Win

273

Arsenal looked nailed on for the top spot all season until recently when the strain has started to show. They're paying the price for Euro progression as well as league superiority. They have looked tired lately and had a hard midweek Euro game again. Man City are 6 points behind with a game in hand and, having been knocked out of Europe, have had a week to relax and train as normal. Present form says City should outstay the Gunners and push them hard, and the race is likely to be neck and neck thereafter. Should the Gunners win this, it looks all over for the rest.

Everton

150 WIN

@+229

Lose

-150

David Moyes' old-school approach has worked the oracle again at Everton. Despite looking badly under-manned, they are now playing as a unit and have looked fitter as they progress. Importantly, they're now scoring goals and growing in confidence. Liverpool continue to stumble from game to game, wondering what side will be picked, and look weak. They pass the ball to death and play side to side, and when going forward have little imagination in front of goal. The midweek Euro game won't have helped the preparation, and this could be a big day for the Toffees.

Kim Roque ran a great race at the festival, finishing a running-on 4th behind Ask Brewster. Overnight favourite at 5/4 and the latter at 16/1 is surprising, as they could finish the same way here. However, the O'Brien horse is professionally ridden this time and there's extra distance (6f). Another who ran well at the festival was King Of Answers. She seemed to relish the step up to 3m 6f and may well have done better than runner-up the way she ran on late. The ground here looks softer than anticipated, and that sways the vote for me.

Twistingthenightaway is a confident pick by a process of elimination and his progressive ongoing improvement. World of Fortunes has a £10 claimer up who hasn't had a winner for two years. Fox's Fancy won a 4-runner last time but had been average prior. Twistingthenightaway had three poor runs, then stepped up to 2m 4f from 2m and won well. Then went to Bangor and tackled 2m 7f with the penalty and could be called the winner a long way from home. Looks ahead of the handicapper, is lightly raced, and is ground versatile.

Albert Einstein was the pre-season 'talking horse' for the O'Brien yard. He was 6th of 10, beaten 4 lengths. That was a reappearance and it was on heavy ground (he hadn't raced on that before). He was also nursed home once the race had gone. He should be sharper now and has better ground and can answer some doubters. Zavateri proved to be a class act last season but was just not quite good enough for the Dewhurst. He looks sure to be suited by this track. Won first time up last year.

Classical Allusion was in the shadow of the hyped Constitution Hill last time at Kempton, running on well enough over 1m 4f. The latter was due to be here but isn't, so this is a good chance to go one better, especially as it's 4 furlongs further. Only had two runs, so has scope, and has had a recent run (mentioned). Trainer is Andrew Balding and jockey is Oisin Murphy. Also the same owners as Coltrane, a staying star of the Balding yard in recent years. Lots of ticked boxes in a race where it's hard to find many elsewhere.

White Noise is the standout on form and ratings, winning 4 of 6, and the last win was in the Mares' race at the Festival last month at 40/1. That was a well-deserved win and not a fluke, but the rating had gone from 109 to 128. It was a tough race and the rating is now 138, so it's possible those two factors might conspire against her and make her vulnerable. Gordon Elliott has brought a lightly raced one over in the shape of Torpille Dagrostis and has booked Sean Bowen. Lightly raced but improving, she was 2nd of 16, then odds-on and won last time. This is a step up, but a good time to challenge one racing off such a high mark.

Liverpool went to Paris to defend in the first leg, hoping to begin the second leg on equal terms. Despite that, they were beaten 2-0 in a game which could well have been at least 4 or 5-0. The Reds have no choice but to attack and go for broke. PSG have the best strike force in Europe domestically, and the goals tally is growing. Liverpool continue to play fast and loose at the back, and the coach seems happy to mix and match and pray. That spells disaster against tonight's opponents. The hosts will leave themselves vulnerable at the back, and the visitors strike with speed. History won't help anyone on the night. I see Liverpool getting a goal one way or another, but PSG won't rest on their lead.
