Alafdhal ran three mysterious-looking races under apprentices recently and did nothing but did get the mark down from 60 to 52. Then, despite the poor form, booked a professional and the horse went off favorite and won easily here. The stewards took a look but accepted the trainer's reasoning that all it took was a decent draw. The draw's decent again here and still 6 pounds lower than the winning mark of 58 earlier in the season.

Surrey Lord is on a hat trick, but another penalty will feel tough as they try an extra half mile here. Nazare still looks like a learner but somehow managed to complete and win last time despite a few dodgy jumps. Enjoyed this distance that day and gets the assistance of Sean Bowen today.

Man U are playing positively of late and scoring freely. However, the last two games have brought them 2-2 draws, so it doesn't read well defensively. Everton are still on a long road back from a few seasons of hell and are still cautious but aware of the need to score. They're not a big scoring team, and it's hard to remember games in which they get three goals or more. This is a big one for David Moyes at Old Trafford. I think goals look on, but pound for pound, Utd, like many teams, are too strong for Everton.

Willie Mullins holds the aces with two of the best chasers around and Festival regulars. Hard to say which is best, and jockeys are bound by contracts to ride which they ride. Fact To File won this last year on reappearance and looks strong. Gaelic Warrior goes well fresh too and can edge it. The former disappointed a couple of times last season despite some excellent wins either side. The latter has yet to disappoint and actually looks like he's still progressing.

The Hardest Geezer was his own worst enemy last time, making a blunder at the last, then ducking about. That was a first run for 8 months, so perhaps on better, sharper behavior now. Likes all ground (has won on good as well as soft) and yard in decent nick.

Most of these haven't run for a long time, and of those who have, only King Of The Lake has win and place form. After three straight wins from class 5 to 4, the mark rose to 124 from 113, and a class 3 was tried only to finish 3rd of 6. However, he was running on well then, and these extra three furlongs will help his cause. Today's claimer has won on him recently.

The Honeyball yard is double-handed and strong, and I go for what appears to be his second string in Gabrielle's Getaway. He's only lightly raced over fences and has won 4 and placed 3 in 10 goes so far. Since the wind op, he has had two races and been second each time, so has avoided penalties. Was a very close 2nd over CD last time behind overnight favorite Teddy Blue. He suffered in some rough riding and was gaining fast at the line, and that form could be reversed this time with Rex Dingle taking over.

Should all stand their ground. Celtic Dino at around 5/1 looks excellent value. Finished last season 3rd of 17 in a better race at Aintree and after a 6-month break came out to beat Alexei an easy 3 lengths. That has since beaten 16 rivals upwards of 6 lengths in a valuable Cheltenham handicap, so the form looks solid with that pipe opener under the belt. Trainer in decent nick.

Ma Shantou has been in the frame in 5 of 6 hurdle races and is improving. Ended the season 7th of 30 in a 3-mile 17-runner at Cheltenham, but his comeback run there (CD) recently was impressive. Gambled on to favorite in a 178-runner handicap worth 20 grand, won easily, and overcame a 7-month absence. Had some rated in the 130s behind, so today's rise to a mark of 126 looks fair.

Regarde is comparatively lightly raced over fences in the context of this field. He has shown good form on all goings and has proven he stays 3m 4f (Haydock). He has had two wind operations recently and run well after each. After the most recent, he made a comeback after 6 months off to be a good 3rd of 18 in a hot Cheltenham amateur chase over 3 miles. This distance and ground will suit more, and he has a good amateur up in Joe Anderson. The stable has been in the winners over the last couple of weeks too.

Spit Spot is two from three for the new yard but has to step up against a larger field in a better class. Can make the frame but will be hard to get the hat trick with another penalty. Rockola Vogue has won at this level and won't mind any ground. Still lightly raced too. Might have won the last three but for a couple of errors in the middle run of the last three. Went back down to class 4 for a confidence booster last time and won snugly. Style of running suggests the extra couple of furlongs will suit.

Your Darling is the top-rated and superior overall, but it's been a long break (almost 2 years) and is making a return post 140 for the first time. It's a big ask. Neon Moon hasn't won in 6 runs since the mark rose to the 130s, and even at 129, has it to do here. Lord Baddesly won by 18 lengths on return but only in a 3-runner race. It might fall for Royal Jewel, who is reliable and has been in the frame in his last 6 runs in lower grade. Yard been in good nick of late, and this might be a value sporting bet at the odds.

Idaho Sun ran well enough to win on debut following a 7-month break. Had a good record in bumpers and will strip fitter here with that under the belt. Doctor Blue also ran well enough on debut but was beaten a head by a more experienced Fortune De Mar (the Skeltons). Edged left that day but has a tongue tie for the first time now and gets five pounds off the rival.
