Niemann is a member of LIV Golf, and as such, I think he is more used to competing with some of the best in the game regularly. He likes Poa Annua greens and made the last four cuts at the US Open. Last week, he won regardless of the average performance on the greens, and I think Niemann is a sound each-way bet.

Thomas did miss the last two cuts at the US Open, but he is in excellent form with a win and a couple of runner-up finishes in the last six starts. His putter is doing great this season, and an odd of 31 or better presents value for me. I take Thomas on each way terms.

Ludvig Aberg

Aberg is a decent talent, and I think it is about time for the Swede to clinch his first Major title. He was runner-up at Augusta and will surely be highly motivated in this one. His superb ball striking will matter here, and I take Aberg to win.

Sepp Straka

Straka is a player that is not very long from the tee. Because of that, he missed the cut in the last two Majors. Here, his excellent accuracy and great putting should give him some edge. A win and a top 3 recently should boost the morale of Straka, and he can become a real threat for the top spots.

Xander Schauffele

Xander posted a top 8 finish at the Masters. In his last six finishes, including that one, he finished T28 or better. The problem lately for Schauffele is the accuracy off the tee. Still, at the US Open, Xander has made eight cuts in a row with six top 7 finishes.

Morikawa is a decent competitor, but his putter is a big question mark here. I doubt that he puts four solid days, but an eclipse on day one is looking more possible. In his last two starts, Morikawa was in the top 3 after day one, and I think he will do better today.

Matsuyama impressed me with the way he drove the ball at Colonial a few weeks ago. His iron game is solid as ever and, most importantly, his putter is doing well also. He missed only one cut at the US Open in twelve starts, and I think Hideki will go well on day one.

Fitzpatrick is a former US Amateur champion. He likes the venues and missed only once the cut in his last ten appearances. Also, he has a title in the US Open. His driver is not consistent as it was, so I am not quite sure if he can make four solid days in a row. I prefer to take him to lead after day one.

The last week's winner is a juicy price, and I am keen to back him to use the momentum and start strong at the US Open. In fact, he won twice in the last four starts. He has not done much in the US Open, and I doubt that his driver will remain equally good for four days. I think on odds like that, Ryan deserves a nibble on day one.

Mannarino is far from his best, but he is a player who excels on grass. In the direct encounters, the result is 4-4. Medvedev is the better player overall, and he knows how to win on grass, but he is coming off two losses in a row. My call is for the French to win.

Medvedev does not like the clay overall and will be happy to return to the grass. At the same time, he will make his debut on the surface and could be a little shaky. Mannarino played a few matches on grass but did not show anything special. Still, he beat O'Connell in straight sets, and I will take a nibble here: Mannarino to win 2-0.

I think a win in four for the German looks quite a good bet. Tiafoe won the previous two clashes, and I do not see him losing this one in straight sets. Altmaier, at the same time, is the one who secures his shots better and who will be more patient in the longer rallies.
