Bryan Smart's six-year-old Castan won this race in 2024, and I think Smart, who also won this last year with Buzz Box, can get the hat-trick up tonight. Castan has only run one really bad race in the last year, which came when finishing tenth on turf at Catterick in October. In his last five starts on the all-weather he has finished no more than two lengths behind the winner in each. Last time out he finished a length behind the winner in a grade-higher race over this C&D a month ago. He goes into this tonight off the same mark of 75 he carried there. He also has the added benefit of Paul Mulrennan, who rides this course better than most of his contemporaries.
