In her last race for her previous trainer Benny Walsh in a Point to Point  she wasn't beaten far by Jackie Hobbs, Holloway Queen and Good Girl Kathleen, who are now rated 125, 134 and 133. Nigel Tinkler's consistent Dandy Dinmont can take this off the handy mark of 64. The seven-year-old has won over this C&D in the past and ran very well here in November. After being hampered at the start, he stayed on well to finish a length and a quarter, second off a three-pound higher mark. Last month, after being backed down to 3/1 favourite here, he took a strong hold early on and ran no sort of race. If you can forgive him, then I'm sure he will run a lot better today.

Gordon Elliott has won five of the last six runnings of this Grand National Trial and has six runners in today's field. My pick is Beaufort Scale, who was a running-on second in a big field at Cheltenham in October and has been aimed pretty high, finishing seventh in all three of the Troytown, Porterstown, and Welsh Grand National. This is a considerable drop in class today for the seven-year-old gelding, and he gets in here off a two-pound lower mark of 121 than he carried in the Welsh Grand National. With Jordan Gainford onboard and five places being paid, I think he is a great each-way bet.

I am siding with his choice this year, Lucky Lyreen, who stayed well when winning at Down Royal last month. He beat Born Braver by a neck in a driving finish there, and although he is two lbs worse off with that rival today, I think he can confirm those placings.
