Miss Willows

Daily Racing

25 EWNB

Win

64

Simon Whitaker's Miss Willows has disappointed on both her starts this year. First, she faded in the final furlong on her seasonal debut over seven furlongs at Thirsk in April. She then finished last of the ten runners at Ripon, where she was poorly drawn. She is dropping in class here, and with Tom Eaves taking over in the saddle, she could be worth a small each-way bet off a two lb lower mark.

Joseph O'Brien's Aeronautic finished fifth in this race last year. After a below-par run when finishing sixth in a Group Three race at Meydan, he drops back to handicap company here off a pound higher than he carried twelve months ago. He has a genuine chance.

Roger Varian's Enfjaar finished fourth, just over a length and a half behind the winner Haatem in this race last year. On his seasonal debut this year, the six-year-old finished third in a Goodwood Listed race, about a length behind the winner, who subsequently finished third in the Group Three Diomed Stakes at the Derby meeting. At about 12/1 he looks like an each-way bet to me.

Nigel Tinkler's Dandy Dinmont runs here after a short eighteen-day break, following his last-place finish at Carlisle. He looks to have a chance off a 1 lb lower mark of 63, minus the three lb claim of Alex Jary, who has won on him in the past. He is certainly worth a few quid each way.

Willie Mullins runs two in this year's Ascot Stakes: the favourite, Royal runner Reaching High, and my pick Bunting, who is a lot bigger price. Last year Bunting finished a staying-on three and a half lengths third to Beylerbeyi in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket, over a slightly shorter trip. Off a three lb lower mark at 18/1, he looks a sound each-way bet here.

Archie Watson has a good record in the Coventry Stakes, and his Siouxperb looks to have every chance in this year's renewal. On his sole career start at Yarmouth a couple of months ago, he was an easy four-length winner from O'Gorman, who has since won two novice races comfortably.

On her tenth start at Wolverhampton last month, Scott Dixon's Espona Bay won for the first time. The way she battled and held on gamely over the seven-furlong trip to beat Court Of Stars (who re-opposes here on a lb better terms) makes it look like today's mile trip will suit her.

There has been a bit of money in the morning market for the Richard Spencer-trained Righthere Rightnow, who hasn't won since making a successful racecourse debut at Newmarket two years ago. He runs here off a two-pound lower mark than he carried when going down by just a head in Meydan in December. That run came after a break. Prior to that he had run really well to finish third at Ayr, where he was just over a neck behind the winner, off a lb higher mark than the one of 74 he carries here. With Jake Dickson taking off a further three lbs for his claim, I think he has a great chance today.

Ben Clarke's Unflappable showed some ability when finishing third, three and a half lengths behind the winner, on her racecourse debut in a mares' bumper at Newton Abbot last month. Currently trained by James Barcoe, Half Nutz has been through many yards since the last of his six career wins over a seven-furlong trip at the Curragh back in 2022, while still an inmate of the Johnny Murtagh stable. Following that win, he was raised nine lbs by the handicapper to a career-high mark of 85. He gets in here off the low mark of 38, minus the ten-pound claim of today's jockey. With four places being paid here, I think he could be worth a small each-way bet in the hope that he retains some of his old ability.
