A lot was expected of Bottler'secret as a four-year-old when trained by Gavin Cromwell after he won a couple of juvenile races, first at Naas and then over today's C&D. But he never fulfilled that early potential and moved to the Aiden O'Meara yard, for whom he ran a few decent races without winning, including a respectable sixth in a two-mile Group Three at the Curragh last time out. Now back with Ciaran Murphy, where he began his career, he is making his second stable debut today and might be good enough to nick a place at a big price.

Daniel & Claire Kubler's Andaleep is one of the most consistent performers at this level. He has two wins on Southwell's Tapeta in the book, so clearly acts well on an artificial surface. He gets in here off a workable mark of 93. The five-year-old gets in here off his last winning mark of 70, which is five lbs lower than the weight he carried when running well here over a mile and a half in September. Willie Mullins runs a total of seven in this year's John Durkan including last year's winner Fact To File who is the hot favourite, but I am going for his complete outsider James Du Berlais, who when last seen in April was a comfortable four and a half length winner of a valuable €100,000 handicap over two and a half miles here at Punchestown. Having had only six career runs, the Sam Thomas-trained horse is by far the most unexposed in this race. He obviously has had some training difficulties, as this is only his third start since 2022. However, he has won both his last two starts: a two-mile seven-furlong maiden hurdle at Chepstow in 2023 and a two-and-a-half-mile Novice Chase at Carlisle in February. This is his handicap debut off an opening mark of 136, with a tongue-tie fitted for the first time and Charlie Deutsch booked. I'm going to take a chance on him.
