Win

480

Here, having just his third run for the John & Sean Quinn yard, Dark Thirty won six times while with the Richard Hannon stable. He finished a rather disappointing tenth on his stable debut in March and followed that with a slightly better seventh-place finish at Newmarket in April. The six-year-old has now slid down the handicap to a mark of 93, which is six pounds below his best winning mark. He could strike today.

Andrew Balding had three handicap winners at last week's big Chester meeting, and he can continue that good run here with impressive, four-length winner of the Old Newton Cup last season, Plage De Havre. The form of that Haydock race has worked out well. He will have come on from his seasonal debut at Kempton over an inadequate mile and a quarter five weeks ago. Returning to a mile and a half here will suit him a lot better.

All four of Mark Loughnane's Studious's wins have come on Tapeta, including last time. He does handle Polytrack. Last time out, she beat a big field at Southwell five weeks ago. He showed great courage there, outbattling the runner-up in a close finish. He comes in here off a four lb higher mark, but I don't think the handicapper has got to the bottom of him yet. The fitting of cheekpieces should help here.

Ralph Beckett's Musical Accord was backed from a morning price of 14/1 down to an SP of 17/2 before finishing a disappointing seventh of the fourteen runners in a mile and a quarter Newbury maiden on her racecourse debut thirteen days ago. She showed signs of greenness in that race, but as a daughter of Camelot I think she’s capable of a fair bit better. He wasn't beaten far when fifth in a six-furlong handicap at Newcastle in October. Currently trained by James Barcoe, Half Nutz has been through many yards since the last of his six career wins over today's seven-furlong trip at the Curragh back in 2022, while still an inmate of the Johnny Murtagh stable. Following that win, he was raised nine lbs by the handicapper to a career-high mark of 85. He gets in here off a career low of 40, minus the ten-pound claim of today's jockey.
