Today, returning to turf, he can go one place better.

A son of the 2014 Guineas winner Night of Thunder, he is William Haggas's first runner in the race since Skardu, who was third in 2019. Needle Match may even give his in-form trainer his first 2,000 Guineas win.

Last year, as a juvenile while still trained by Ado Murray in Ireland, Power Blue won the Group One Phoenix Stakes over six furlongs at the Curragh. He has since moved to the yard of Murray's former assistant Robson De Aguiar. On his stable debut, he finished runner-up in a seven-furlong Group Three race at Leopardstown in April. Providing he stays today's mile trip, he is a sound each-way bet here.

I think she can win this for her in-form trainer today.

After finding trouble in running, he stormed home and was only beaten by a neck. The good-to-soft ground didn't suit him in the Lincoln, where he was sent off 3-1 favourite; after making a slow start, he could never get competitive. However, he is far better than that and can show it back at Ascot.

Her best run to date came in a Cork maiden on turf over today's minimum trip in September. There has been a bit of money for her today on her first start for her new, in-form stable. She could be worth a few quid each way.

Last time out over a mile and a quarter at Doncaster he never really got into the race, finishing tenth. Today he drops back in grade and runs here off a pound-lower mark, and with Rossa Ryan taking over in the saddle, he has a chance here if he returns to his earlier form.

Richard and Peter Fahey's eight-year-old Strike Red finished runner-up in last season's Stewards' Cup off an eight lb higher mark than the one of 86 he carries here. He also finished second in this race second time out last season off 12 lb higher than he is now. Today he has Warren Fentiman taking off his three lb claim on board. He made a good seasonal debut at Newcastle eleven days ago, finishing third, just a length and a short head behind the winner. That should have put him spot on for today.

Having completed the mandatory three starts over timber, Hughie Morrison's Secret Sniper makes his handicap hurdle debut here off a mark of 110. The five-year-old has been placed in four of his six starts under rules. Last time out at Taunton he bumped into the Paul Nicholls-trained hot-pot Minella Yoga and was beaten ten lengths, finishing clear of the rest of the field. He is related to several winners for his connections and may have potential off his opening mark.
