Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore have enjoyed a successful first season of their training partnership, and they can continue it here with Inox Allen. Twelve months ago he made all and won by eleven lengths in a first-time visor in a novice handicap chase at this meeting. He hasn't shown anything since, pulling up on his return and beating only one rival in two other starts. He gets in here off just four pounds higher, which is counterbalanced by Alan Doyle's three-pound claim, and has cheekpieces fitted for the first time. I think he has a great chance of repeating last year's win.

Currently trained by James Barcoe, Half Nutz has been through many yards since the last of his six career wins at over today's seven-furlong trip at the Curragh back in 2022, while still an inmate of the Johnny Murtagh stable. Following that win he was raised nine lbs by the handicapper to a career-high mark of 85. He gets in here off one of 42, minus the ten-pound claim of today's jockey. With four places being paid here, I think he could be worth a small each-way bet, in the hope that he retains some of his old ability.

He has a big chance on his return to Perth, where his record reads 1-2-1-2-1. King Roly appears to have been freshened up for this race; he hasn’t run since finishing a close fourth in a two-and-a-half-mile novice handicap chase at Hexham in October.

All three of Newsreader's career wins have come over seven furlongs on Kempton's Polytrack surface while he was still in the Kevin Philippart de Foy stable. Since moving to the Edward Smyth-Osborne yard, he has run well a couple of times on turf, when runner-up over seven furlongs at Ffos Las in August and when a close third at Windsor over today's six-furlong trip in September, when cheekpieces were applied for the first time. He arrives here off a career-low mark of 75, the cheekpieces are reapplied, and he should be refreshed after a 194-day break. I think, with Ali Rawlinson taking over in the saddle for the first time, he is a great each-way bet here.

There has been a sizable gamble from an opening show of about 33/1 right down to his current price of about a third of that on the Charles Marini-trained The Back Braes, an eight-year-old gelding who has shown very little in public in his two starts: one bumper and one hurdle under rules so far. The Dominic Ffrench Davis yard is in great form at the moment. He had a couple of winners here yesterday and can continue his good run here with The Golden Snitch, who ran a lot better than his odds of 100/1 suggested when finishing fourth on his racecourse debut in a seven-furlong Doncaster novice race nineteen days ago. That day he had one of the favourites here, King Of Earth, finish less than two lengths ahead of him in second place. The way The Golden Snitch was finishing there suggested that today's mile trip will suit him better. At about 20/1, I think he is a great each-way bet here.
