Ben Clarke's horses are in good form at the moment, as his 18% strike rate in the last two weeks shows. Here Thistle Be The One returns to handicap company after being out of form recently. His maiden runs last season when trained by Keiran Burke, where he finished behind useful types like French Ship and Alexei, have worked out very well and are promising. He gets in here off a mark of 100 and looks well capable of winning this if returning to last year's form.

Joe Tizzard's Sea Warrior has so far failed to fulfil the promise he showed when finishing fifth behind one of the Skeltons' hot pots in an Exeter novice hurdle on his seasonal debut in November. Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore have had a good start to their training partnership and can continue it here with Walk On Quest in this two-and-a-half-mile final that is named after the great Monet's Garden. I believe he has been aimed at this all season, or certainly since he finished a three-length runner-up to the useful Trac at Newcastle in December; the winner went on to win an even better race next time out. Last time he finished a disappointing sixth at Wetherby in January, but I will forgive him that and remember he runs here a lb lower than he carried at Newcastle.

Michael O'Callaghan's Breaking Dawn ran well twice in autumn maidens at this venue before winning a Curragh maiden by a comfortable two and a half lengths last weekend, where he responded well to first-time cheekpieces. He finished very strongly on similar heavy ground that he faces today. He did so in the manner of a horse that will be suited by moving up to seven furlongs here. He also holds a fitness edge over most of today's rivals, and with Colin Keane once again in the saddle, I am confident he can go in again today.

Egbert made an impressive stable debut for Christian Williams at Haydock in December, where he made all and showed a lot of courage to hold on in the finish by three-quarters of a length. Here he is dropping back in grade; this is the first time since November 2024 that he has faced this sort of company. I am not particularly bothered by the fact that he hasn't run since December because he is a horse that goes well when fresh. With Harry Cobden booked to ride, I am confident he will see off this weaker opposition.

Authorized Mission made the best possible start after joining the Nicky Richards yard from Chris Grant, with a comfortable fourteen-length win at Kelso in November. The handicapper put him up a massive 14 lbs for that. When he returned to the same venue he only went down by a length and three-quarters. Last time out on very soft ground he never really got into the race and finished ninth. Today's sounder ground will suit him better, and he could well go in for his very much improved trainer and jockey.

Last year, while still on the flat and trained by Andrew Balding, Who's Glen finished fifth in the Chester Cup off a mark of 93. He then lost his form and moved to the Donald McCain yard, where he began his hurdling career with a promising third to Judicial Deference over this C&D on his debut in December. He finished only four lengths behind the winner, who has won twice more since and is one of the favourites for another of these series finals at Kelso on Saturday off a mark of 124. Here he is eight lbs better off with runner-up The G Wizard, who finished three lengths ahead of him in that race. Last time out at Doncaster he didn't handle the heavy ground and finished tailed off. I am prepared to forgive that run, and I think he is a good each-way bet here on his handicap debut off a mark of 106.

Sandy Thomson's Admiralty House has run well in his last two outings. He was still in with a chance jumping the last in the race won by Star Of Guiting before fading to fifth near the finish here on New Year's Day. After that race he underwent wind surgery. The heavy ground didn't suit him at Kelso on his sole start since. This race has probably been a target for some time, since he ran in a qualifier on his reappearance. He doesn’t look to be on a bad mark, and better ground will suit.
