Sir William's sole career win came over today's mile and a quarter trip at Windsor last August, while still an inmate of the William Haggas yard. He finished a disappointing fifth of the six runners on his stable debut for Charlie Johnston on Southwell's artificial surface last month. He could improve for that run here.

The Stuart Williams stable is in good form at the moment, as shown by yesterday's shock winner of the Group Three Nell Gwyn, Azleet. He can have more success today by taking the Abernant Stakes with his six-year-old front-runner and dual C&D winner, Quinault, who is race-fit after winning a valuable race in Qatar in February.

Charlie Appleby has made a great start to the season and currently boasts a 41% strike rate in the last two weeks. He can keep the good run going here with the Godolphin-owned three-year-old Treanmor, who was a very impressive winner over today's C&D on his debut last May. Although he hasn't won in any of his three starts since, he showed a bit of promise when finishing third over a mile at Meydan 76 days ago. Dropping back to six furlongs here should suit him, and he should strip fitter than most of today's rivals, having had two runs in Meydan in January.

Andrew Balding can continue his good start to the season here with Mubasimah, who had just two runs as a two-year-old, both over this C&D. She won by a length and a quarter on her debut before going close in the Group Three Oh So Sharp Stakes, rallying well to be narrowly beaten a neck by Calendar Girl. Having two lengths clear of the rest of the field, she didn't lose anything in defeat that day.

Brian Meehan won this race in 2024 with Jayarebe. Today he is represented by Bourbon Blues, who was beaten only a head into second in a Group Three at Chantilly by the Charlie Appleby-trained Al Zanati in November. That day he finished two and a half lengths in front of the Appleby-trained Pacifica Pier. Prior to that run he had gone down by a similar margin in a mile and two-furlong nursery here in October before being awarded the race in the stewards' room. So he stays the trip and acts on the track. I think he is a good each-way bet here at 22/1.

She was keen off a steady pace but still managed a respectable third behind Roaring Ralph, who was completing a hat-trick.
