David O'Meara had been having a quiet season by his standards up to the last two weeks, where three of his last five runners have won. Here he runs nine-year-old veteran Aberama Gold, who has previously won over this C&D. With four places being paid, he has to have an each-way chance here against his younger rivals.

Six weeks prior to that she finished three-quarters of a length behind Harlington, who has won again since at Chelmsford. Authorized Mission made the best possible start after joining the Nicky Richards yard from Chris Grant, with a comfortable fourteen-length win at Kelso in November. The handicapper put him up a massive 14 lbs for that. When he returned to the same venue he only went down by a length and three-quarters. Last time out on very soft ground he never really got into the race and finished ninth. Today's sounder ground will suit him better, and he could well go in for his very much improved trainer and jockey.

Last year, while still on the flat and trained by Andrew Balding, Who's Glen finished fifth in the Chester Cup off a mark of 93. He then lost his form and moved to the Donald McCain yard, where he began his hurdling career with a promising third to Judicial Deference over this C&D on his debut in December. He finished only four lengths behind the winner, who has won twice more since and is one of the favourites for another of these series finals at Kelso on Saturday off a mark of 124. Here he is eight lbs better off with runner-up The G Wizard, who finished three lengths ahead of him in that race. Last time out at Doncaster he didn't handle the heavy ground and finished tailed off. I am prepared to forgive that run, and I think he is a good each-way bet here on his handicap debut off a mark of 106.

Sandy Thomson's Admiralty House has run well in his last two outings. He was still in with a chance jumping the last in the race won by Star Of Guiting before fading to fifth near the finish here on New Year's Day. After that race he underwent wind surgery. The heavy ground didn't suit him at Kelso on his sole start since. This race has probably been a target for some time, since he ran in a qualifier on his reappearance. He doesn’t look to be on a bad mark, and better ground will suit.

Fergal O'Brien's horses are running well at the moment. His Heart Over Head, who is obviously something of a handful as he wears a red hood to post, got off the mark at the seventh attempt with a convincing 15-length win in a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter. He followed that with an impressive two-length win at Market Rasen in a grade-higher race.
