Sean Aherne's Coffeys Forge, with Brian Barry again taking off his seven-pound claim, has a good chance here. Barry has now ridden Coffeys Forge on all three starts since the gelding joined the stable from Gordon Elliott late last year. Coffeys Forge wore a hood on his last three starts, but that is dispensed with here. Aherne has a good record with horses switching from a hood to no headgear. I think he has a reasonable chance here.

Mike Sowersby could have a good day at Catterick today. His El Muchacho, who has yet to finish outside the first two in three starts, today returns to the C&D where he won by two and a half lengths off a three lb lower mark 39 days ago. The horse produced a career-best effort when stepping up to two miles and three furlongs to finish second at Warwick on New Year’s Eve. He should improve again as he moves up to three miles and one furlong for the first time off a four-pound higher mark, which is counterbalanced by Tristan Durrell's three-pound claim.

Now eight, he has only won one of his eighteen starts over hurdles, that coming in a Market Rasen maiden back in 2023 while he was with the Charles & Adam Pogson stable. Recently he has shown signs of life, particularly two runs back when, only going down by a head in a two-mile handicap at Newton Abbot, he followed that with a seventh-place finish at Carlisle in December. He gets in here today off the low mark of 107, minus Leah Noreci's 10 lb claim. Although very unreliable, with only four places being paid, he may be worth a few quid each way here.

Gordon Elliott’s Prends Garde A Toi clearly does not stay three miles, as he has shown when pulling up at Punchestown in November and failing to get home at Naas three weeks ago.
