John & Sean Quinn are going very well this season, and they can have further success here with their five-year-old Master Of My Fate with Jason Hart on board, as he was when the gelding beat Sports Coach by half a length at Southwell last month. Sports Coach reversed the form next time, scoring by a length and a half, but has since been raised four lbs, which puts them on virtually the same terms as their earlier meeting.

The Georgina Nicholls-trained gelding Thank You Ma'am continues his career over hurdles here, having reverted back to timber last time out at Uttoxeter after a moderately successful attempt over fences last season. Charlie Longsdon's consistent New Order last won around this time of the year last season. While he has yet to win this year, he has hit the frame in his last four outings. Last time out, in the Grimthorpe Chase at Sandown, he was backed down from 15/2 to 7/2 favourite, before disappointing his supporters by finishing a distant third. He comes here off a 1 lb lower mark of 124, and the drop back two furlongs in trip is also in his favour.

Today, Stellar Stream, who has been out of form since finishing a length and three quarters third behind Esperti at Ffos Las in November, meets Esperti again on six lbs better terms. After two decent runs over hurdles without cheekpieces in his last two starts, and with the yard going so well and cheekpieces reapplied, I think he has a great chance here.

Sam England's Glory And Honour returns to fences here after a 173-day break. The ten-year-old likes it here at Hexham, where he has recorded form figures reading 2, 1, 3. He is now down to the same mark as when last winning here in June of last year. He also goes well when fresh; he won the Flat at Pontefract in 2024 after an 85-day layoff on the last occasion he returned from a break of longer than 50 days. I think there could be more to come from him over fences this year.

Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore have had a good start to their training partnership and can continue it here with Walk On Quest in this two-and-a-half-mile final that is named after the great Monet's Garden. I believe he has been aimed at this all season, or certainly since he finished a three-length runner-up to the useful Trac at Newcastle in December; the winner went on to win an even better race next time out. I am not particularly bothered by the fact that he hasn't run since December because he is a horse that goes well when fresh. Sandy Thomson's Admiralty House has run well in his last two outings. The heavy ground didn't suit him at Kelso on his sole start since. This race has probably been a target for some time, since he ran in a qualifier on his reappearance. He doesn’t look to be on a bad mark, and better ground will suit.
