It's been a disappointing campaign for Storm, with them sitting 12th. However, they've been more solid of late, winning 4 of their last 5, and a top-8 place is still possible with a good run. Raiders have looked unimpressive when I've seen them, and a Storm side building momentum should prevail.

Raiders are a poor team and have the third-lowest points with 261. Against what is often a solid Storm defence, I don't see them scoring many. Storm have been disappointing this season, so I see them keeping it tight and doing enough to win.

Cowboys have been inconsistent this season and were poor in their last two games. They lost by 14 to a not-very-strong Raiders side and, last time, were badly outclassed by the Dolphins on their own patch. The meters they made in possession were poor, and they never looked competitive. Warriors are strong this season and are capable of putting weaker sides to the sword.

After a 5-1 thrashing by Sweden, Tunisia took the controversial decision to sack their coach mid-tournament. Whether that results in an improved performance remains to be seen. They would have to improve significantly to beat Japan, though. Japan looked decent in the draw against the Netherlands and look a clear level above what appears to be a weak Tunisia side.

Referee István Kovács of Romania has the honour of refereeing his 1,000th World Cup match, and I don't see that honour holding him back from showing cards. He has a wealth of experience but doesn't shy away from booking players. Over his career he has averaged 5.3 yellow cards per game. Tunisia had just one yellow against Sweden but easily could have had more, and as the deficit rose their commitment waned. I can see them picking up cards today. Japan don't usually pick up many, but even one may be enough to at least reach three.

Ecuador are a tough side to break down. So despite Curaçao getting a surprise goal against Germany, I don't see them repeating that feat. Ning Ma of China takes charge and hasn't been shy to show cards. In his five games this year he showed 26 yellows and a red, and last year showed 89 yellows and a red from 18 games. Players will obviously have to be on their guard in this one. I don't know whether Curaçao realistically believe they can progress in the group, but if they do this is a game they must get something out of. Conversely, Ecuador really ought to be eyeing all three points. I therefore can see plenty of tough tackles, trips, etc., taking this over.

Ivory Coast needed a last-minute goal to get past Ecuador, and this looks a lot tougher. You can't read too much into Germany's 7-1 thrashing of Curaçao, but they are in fine form, winning 10 on the trot and banging in the goals in the process. Although Ivory Coast themselves are in fine form, I think Germany will be too strong.

Felix Nmecha is given the freedom to push forward more for Brazil than his club Dortmund. This was evident in the opener when he fired in four shots, three of which were on target and one resulting in a goal. Ivory Coast will be tougher to break down than Curaçao, but I don't see that stopping Nmecha from getting shots away, so 7.00 looks a bit big.

Ivory Coast picked up three first-half cards against Ecuador but calmed down a tad in the second half, although they appeared to get away with a couple. Germany are bound to put them under plenty of pressure, and Ivory Coast do have a habit of picking up cheap cards by tripping. Germany aren't immune to yellow cards, picking up nine from their six qualification games, so 3+ looks likely.

Two very unpredictable sides and you never really know how they'll play on any given day. Castleford have been thumped 72-6 by Warrington, 34-0 by Wakefield, 50-10 by Hull and 50-6 by KR. On the flip side they've beaten Wigan by 10 and St Helens by 20. Toulouse have largely struggled at this level but have won their last two away games and beat Castleford by 12 earlier in the season. They do have tries in them and, against a far-from-solid Castleford defence, can hang in there.

Sweden were dreadful in qualifying, but Graham Potter has gotten a fine tune out of them of late. They won their two qualifying games against Poland and Ukraine, scoring three goals in each. They opened their account at the World Cup with an impressive 5-1 win over Tunisia. They may have been flattered by a poor Tunisia side, but they looked like a side full of goals, with Premier League players Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres posing a serious threat. The Dutch also pose a threat, but their defence looks suspect, so I don't see this being as clear cut as the odds suggest.

Armagh really should have beaten Louth last time after dominating the game and losing to a late howler by the keeper. Northampton were undoubtedly the stronger side in the regular season, but Exeter are finishing the season well, beating Leicester, Saracens, and a come-from-behind win over Bath to get them here. De Decker looked like being a real force when winning the 2024 World Grand Prix, but he's clearly regressed since then. His form coming into this isn't great, winning just 4 of his last 15. O'Connor recently reached the final of Players Event 20, and although he lost in the first round of his two subsequent events, he was back on it with a 6-3 win over De Graaf yesterday. The decision to overrule corners and change them to goal kicks, but not the other way around, is plainly stupid and has had a negative impact on the number of corners. Nevertheless, it didn't stop the Swiss winning 10 in their first game against Qatar. They are a side that win plenty of corners, so could get close to this line by themselves. Hopefully refs will clamp down a bit more in the second round of fixtures, and if they do this looks a prime candidate for over. Bosnia picked up three yellows in game one and Switzerland one.
