23:30 The Genesis Invitational

Denny McCarthy

25 EW

@101.00

Open

One player showing good current form is Denny McCarthy, who finished T-16 at last week's Phoenix Open. He also finished T-16 at the Sony Open in Hawaii last month. In Phoenix last week, the American followed a mediocre first round 72 with 64-68 and 69. Yet to win on the PGA Tour, I'll take McCarthy to finish top 7 at the Genesis Invitational in San Diego this week!

Rasmus Hojgaard

25 EW

@36.00

Open

0

Rasmus Hojgaard was in strong contention at last week's Phoenix Open, holding second place after four holes of the final round, but fell at a few hurdles and eventually finished T-12. At 23, and with 5 DP World Tour wins, it won't take long until the Dane wins his first on the PGA Tour! Hojgaard top 7!

Justin Thomas

1st Round Leader

50 WIN

@26.00

Open

0

Justin Thomas looked very happy with his game at the Phoenix Open last week, shooting his best round on Sunday, which included holing his second at the final hole for a 65. With lots of players showing great form in Phoenix, there are many who could lead after day 1, but Thomas gets the vote to shine in the opening round!

Jordan Spieth

Top American

50 WIN

@23.00

Open

0

Jordan Spieth showed his confidence has returned at the Phoenix Open in Arizona last week. Rounds of 68-65-67 and 68 gave the American a top-five finish and a feeling the 13-time winner won't be taking long to add to his win tally. I reckon he'll go close (on current form) to winning the Genesis Invitational this week, so I'll take him to emerge top American!

Man Utd

Tottenham went through a period where they totally lost their form, losing to sides they would normally destroy. Their form has returned, but they face a Manchester United side who are slowly getting their act together. I'll take United to cause more grief for the Londoners!

Wolves had a change of fortune as they beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Molineux two weeks ago, lifting them out of the relegation zone, and also beat Blackburn Rovers 0-2 away in the FA Cup. If they play to a similar standard, they can earn a point at Anfield as Liverpool are stuttering towards the title with three draws in their last six games!

Mark Selby has played like a winner all through the tournament while opponent Stephen Maguire has found his form again after a long period. I feel Selby will win as Scotland's Maguire is in his first final in years. I'll take Selby to win 9-7.
12:15 LIV Golf Invitational Adelaide

Jon Rahm

50 WIN

@6.50

Open

Have to side with Jon Rahm to win the LIV tournament in Adelaide this week. The Spanish star shot three rounds of 67 last week in Riyadh, which gave him a runner-up spot just two shots behind winner Adrian Meronk, who opened the tournament with a -10 and was never headed. Rahm, on current form, should go close!

While it's good to see Stephen Maguire back to playing great snooker, I doubt he'll beat Ali Carter in this S/F. The Englishman has been very impressive in his wins over Thor, Vafaei, Day and O'Connor. Scotland's Stephen Maguire included Mark Williams and Jack Lisowski among his victims and could trouble Carter, but I feel Carter is showing the best form of all in Wales this week, and I predict he'll progress to the final with a 6-3 win.

Crystal Palace have certainly upped their game. Having been fighting relegation earlier in the season, they now occupy 12th spot thanks to solid play like winning four, drawing one, and losing one of their last six games. Everton sit 15th, but they too had to up their game as three wins and a draw in their last four have them further away from the RZ. I fancy the draw here!

Gavin Cromwell's Invictus Machin was an excellent winner of a 14-runner handicap over an extended 25F at Kilbeggan back in August. While following up with an 8th of 12 in a Navan three-miler in December, the 7-y-o looked in need of the run. At his current odds, I'll take Cromwell's charge to get a frame finish in this 20F handicap chase today!

Ipswich Town lost their last four games, conceding 14 goals, so it's hard to see them get anything at Villa Park this afternoon. Aston Villa are 21 points ahead of Ipswich, and while they lost at Wolves last game, I can't see them losing against Ipswich!

I have to side with Nottingham Forest in this fixture as their season thus far has been excellent. Opponents Fulham are 11 points behind Forest and had an excellent away win at Newcastle last game, but preference here goes to Nottingham Forest to take the points!

I fancy the draw between Manchester City and Newcastle. The Magpies have lost two of their last three games, but they always seem to produce their best against top sides. Southampton beat Ipswich Town to chalk up their first win of the season, but then lost at home to Burnley in the FA Cup. Bournemouth lost to Liverpool last game, but last week's win at Everton in the FA Cup should have them in a confident mood for their trip to St Marys! Away win!

Neither West Ham nor Brentford have played well in recent games, with the Hammers earning just four points from their last six games, while Brentford are slightly better with seven. So, money's on the draw at the London Stadium.

It's hard to oppose Marche Daligre in this 2M juvenile hurdle after his exploits in two hurdles events saw him win on debut over 2M at Wetherby in November, beating 12 rivals, and followed up with a runner-up spot in the nine-runner Coral Finale Juvenile Hurdle a month later, both under Gavin Sheehan. With further improvement expected, the Jamie Snowdon-trained 4-y-o will likely be the one to beat under Sheehan!

Mark Selby had to work hard to secure a semi-final place, winning a hard-fought match against John Higgins by a deciding frame. Luca Brecel has looked back to his best after easing into the last four with a facile 5-2 win over Jackson Page. The 2023 World Champion likes a fast-flowing game. He won't get that from Selby, but I still think the Belgian (on current form) will reach the final!

After a long spell waiting for his form to return, Stephen Maguire found it in Wales this week. 4-2 wins over Xu Si, Mark Williams and Sanderson Lam show the Scot is happy with his current form, and it's showing. I'm expecting a close game as both Jackson Page and Luca Brecel are playing at the top of their game. Solid wins over Jimmy Robertson, Ishpreet Singh Chadha, and Tom Ford have Welshman Jackson Page at the Q/F stage, while his opponent Luca Brecel beat Carrington, Saengkham, and Junxu. 2023 World Champion Brecel has much more experience than 23-y-o Page, and I reckon that experience will have him progressing to the S/F.
