Strike Red gets the vote. The Faheys-trained 8yo won at Leicester back in April and is only two pounds above that winning mark. Has competed in this race to modest effect the last three seasons but is 7 lbs or more lower this year than all previous runs. Not a bad effort at Thirsk last time. Good race, but Strike Red has a shout and appeals at 20/1.

Northwest Passage is low in the handicap, allotted just 8-04. He ran numerous good races for Roger Teal and has since joined Ivan Furtado. He was a fifteen-length winner at Salisbury last season, which didn't do his handicap mark much good but showcased his potential. He has had two muted efforts at a lower grade so far this season. He tries 1m4f for the first time but has run over further. It is possible this race has been a target.
