Hitched has won nine of 43 career starts, and he's a very useful six-year-old trained by David Simcock. Joey Haynes (SR 20%) rides today. He last scored just over 1 mile at Wolverhampton late in January. He runs off two pounds higher here today. He ran in a seller on Thursday night and bashed into the stall before exiting. He's a tough sort; he kept on to get back into the race and looked in with a big chance. I'm not sure winning was the plan that evening, however. It might be here. He looks very much up to this level, and a strong pace to aim at will suit.

Choccabloc would undoubtedly be a surprise winner, but, last day of the month on OLBG, is worth trying for the NAP competition. Trainer Andrew McNamara has had a winner from the last two runners. Choccabloc reached a decent level over hurdles (rated 128; Class 2 winner) for Nicky Henderson. Jumping has been a bit erratic for this yard over fences. Fair second on penultimate start at Fairyhouse. Might need some luck here, or, as they say, may need a couple of the others to falter.

High-class chaser for Willie Mullins, a Grade winner in 2022 and Cheltenham Grade 2 success in January 2024. Final run for that yard came in February last year and it was a decent effort, third to Nick Rockett (prior to that horse's Grand National success). Returns to make seasonal debut for new yard of Neil Mulholland with ground to suit. A lot of weight but interesting nonetheless and only a ten-year-old. Jonjo O'Neill Jr booked for the ride. Still in the colours of JP McManus.

There could be more to come from City of Diamonds for canny trainer Donald McCain. Ready winner of a handicap hurdle at Musselburgh back in November, and the horse he beat that day has won both races since, when the selection has disappointed on each occasion. First-time tongue tie tried now, and jockey William Maggs claims a five-pound allowance. Two wins from seven over hurdles, and suspicion the six-year-old might be much better than he's shown on his last two appearances.

Soul Icon is chanced in the feature race of the day. Very useful and well suited to Kempton (won the Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase here in December 2024). Good effort here last time when only beaten two lengths and proving he stays two miles. The interesting thing is, while the handicapper has been a little unkind since the Grade 2 success, Rian Corcoran is booked to take off seven pounds from the weight. Looks a big price at 28-1. Soul Icon has never been a reliable sort but has a lot of ability.

Fair effort in the Grade 1 Savills Chase on 28 December, and never really put into the race in the Grade 1 Irish Gold Cup last time. Last year's Grand National third drops in class to a Grade 3 and is the form pick of a quite strong Willie Mullins collective entered here.

We are in uncharted waters to some extent with this 1m4f novice stakes running late in the evening at Southwell. Grazeon Sunshine has a nice enough profile with form figures of 2-1-2 from three bumper outings, latterly second in a Class 2 at Aintree on Boxing Day. Decent pedigree for the Flat and AW by Mondialiste. Useful trainers in John and Sean Quinn. Jason Hart, a solid jockey, rides. Exciting race to come.
