Candidly

Daily Racing

Met at least one good sort in Porsche Lad when going close to winning from a poor draw in stall 17 last time. Two good runs over course and distance for this Donnacha O'Brien-trained three-year-old. Drawn in stall 3. Paddy Harnett again claims 5 lbs allowance. Big shout.

Botox Has was a Grade 2 winner on his first start in the 2023 season. Nine-length winner at Haydock in a Grade 2 in 2024. A couple of third-placed efforts at this level last season, but he wasn't at his best. Conditions (3m, soft) suit and the relatively low weight of 11-02 means he is chanced at a big price.
13:50 1:50 Newbury

Regents Stroll

Daily Racing

Regent's Stroll is a classy sort. Clearly talented, and quirks seem to be long gone. Five-length winner of a bumper here. 9.5-length winner of a maiden hurdle here. Solid effort in a Grade 1 novice hurdle here. Second in Grade 1 over hurdles at Aintree on his last outing. Goes chasing with the promise of more to come.
13:15 1:15 Newbury

Highland Crystal

Daily Racing

Highland Crystal ran away (a 14-length success) with what looked like a quite decent juvenile hurdle at Punchestown recently. Soft ground will suit again today. Daughter of Crystal Ocean looks a smart prospect for Gordon Elliott.

Act Of Innocence

Daily Racing

Act Of Innocence looks the likeliest winner. Ran well in a Listed bumper at Newbury for Paul Nicholls last year before scoring next time out in a lower-grade bumper. Has since moved to Nicky Henderson and has been well backed ahead of this Class 3 maiden hurdle.

Why Not Me

Daily Racing

This is weak for a fillies' novice stakes, and the favourite makes very little appeal. Why Not Me is chanced. Very smart pedigree (half-sister to Irish Oaks winner You Got to Me). Will want further in time, but seven furlongs may be fine for now. Dam won a maiden at six furlongs. Stuart Williams (SR 40%) stable in form with a comfortable 4.5-length winner over this trip here yesterday evening.

Diego El Queso

Daily Racing

Rossa Ryan (SR 27%) is booked for the ride on Ger Lyons-trained Diego El Queso. Three-lengths winner of a maiden at Dundalk in late October (1 mile) and backed that up when second, beaten half a length by in-form Tokenomics there (clear of the remainder). Goes up in trip here but could still be well in on a mark of 88. Doubts about the Godolphin runner's attitude after a poor run last time.

@2.88

94

Rising Dust appeals from a very low chasing mark in a not overly strong handicap chase. Sent off at odds close to even money on all four starts since joining Emmet Mullins' (SR 23%) yard. Eight-length winner at Listowel at this trip of 2m6f, but over hurdles. Added a Punchestown win from OR 101 over a further trip. Ran four times over fences for his previous yard, so is experienced in this sphere. This handicap mark of 86 (carries 10-02) compares very favourably with his hurdles rating of 111.

Likely favourite Shomen Uchi makes a good deal of appeal in this 3m2f Class 2 handicap chase at Haydock. The eight-year-old hasn't had much racing, only six starts, and has finished only once outside the first two places. Returned from a lengthy layoff to win with ears pricked at Carlisle in February. Upped in trip and class but only raised 5 lbs for that win. Trainer Sam Thomas (SR 40%) in strong form and Charlie Deutsch rides.

Kotmask ran second in this race last year off a mark of 130 in a series of three strong runs (form figures 221) in high grade handicap chases at Ascot last autumn. Ran well enough back here in March. Reappearance run at Fontwell was disappointing but it is hoped that was a prep run for returning to Ascot. Today's mark of 131 is 1 pound lower than last year and puts the 7yo at the bottom of the handicap. Trainers the Moores (SR 22%) and jockey Caoilin Quinn (SR 28%) come here in good form.

Fair effort in the Grade 2 bet365 Hurdle at Wetherby (2m7f) last time and similarly solid fourth in the Grade 1 Stayers Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival last year. Third at 150-1 in last year's Champion Hurdle so very much entitled to his place in this Grade 2 feature. Drop back to 2m4f should suit. Each-way probably the sensible option.

The conditions of this race are such that Dinoblue, being a mare, receives weight from all. 8 wins from 16 chase starts. Comfortably landed a Grade 2 mares chase at Cheltenham Festival last year.
