One of the few fillies in this race who has already had a run. That effort came nine days ago. By Coulsty and the dam won over 5f on the all-weather. Cost 26,000 guineas as a yearling. Potential improver trained by David Evans.

The vote goes to the Skelton horses in this one, who both seem well handicapped. Mostly Sunny likely had the race at Plumpton five days ago break in his favor, but he finished encouragingly full of running, beating Neil Mulholland and Willie Mullins trained runners in the process. If this race doesn't come too soon on the back of that outing five days ago, Mostly Sunny looks well handicapped to have a good chance of going in again. Receives 13 lbs or more from all the Willie Mullins trained contingent.

Ten of the 20 runners are trained by Willie Mullins. It looks a fun contest but the betting market seems to have it covered. Danny Mullins will be an asset once again to last year's winner Minella Cocooner. The presence of Grangeclare West means that despite an official rating 4lbs higher than last year the 9yo actually carries 4 pounds less (Nick Rockett third in this race last year). Ran well in the National (not beaten far) and conditions (shorter trip; firmer ground) suit better today. A contender.

Myal, a 4yo colt by Al Kazeem out of a Dubai Destination mare, finished last season with four straight wins. Well backed into joint favourite for the Spring Mile at Newbury. Ran well there, hitting the front two out and looking the winner only to wander late on. Thunder Roar took the honours but Myal meets that rival on 4lbs better terms now and the drop back to seven furlongs should help. Strongly backed once again. From bottom of the handicap, Myal appeals at odds of 7-2.

Commanche Falls is played in a slightly optimistic spirit. Achieved a string of three victories at Pattern level in the summer of 2023. Ran some good races last year, a second place to Believing at Listed level and ran sixth in the Ayr Gold Cup off OR107. Happier on good ground and conditions here should suit. Has run ok on first outings in the past - fair effort in the Abernant last year. Still just eight years old but slightly better handicapped these days on a mark of 103. 12 wins from 45 starts on turf. Trainer Michael Dods has had a couple of recent winners. Possibilities at double-figure odds in an 11-runner Class 2 sprint.

Fasol

This race, a Class 2 handicap hurdle, has a really wide open feel to it. An outsider, low in the handicap, is probably the way to go. Fasol is interesting with Harry Skelton (SR 21%) booked for Paul Nicholls. Nicely bred six year-old by Galileo and the dam ran in the Arc. Some of this winter's form over hurdles since joining the yard puts Fasol in with a big shout. Things haven't gone quite to plan but returned from wind surgery with a good winning display at Taunton early in March before being turned over at long odds on last time in a race he should have won. This race, however, is feasibly more the real target. Carries 11 stone off a good handicap mark of 115 and has ability if he can put it all together.

Hard not to see this as a two horse race, the other two runners having shown little ability to mount a race. Jackpot Des Bordes was pretty useful in bumpers (a close second to Celtic Dino) and has form figures of 12 over course and distance at Nicholls' local track. Given Willie Mullins triumphed in the English (had the 123) and Scottish Grand Nationals in recent weeks, though he fields just two runners in this Irish National they each have to be respected. Quai De Bourbon gets the vote. Paul Townend (back with a winner yesterday) knows how to stay out of trouble in a race and is a key asset. Quai De Bourbon is just six years old but is a classy contender who ran in Grade 1 races at Cheltenham and Aintree. Did make a bad jumping error at Cheltenham but was unfortunate when brought down at Aintree last time. Well backed there and seemed to be getting into the race when brought down at the 14th. Trainer obviously has the ability to train stayers. Arguably the best jockey in the race (no Danny Mullins). Goes well on soft-heavy ground. Looks a bet in this competitive race at 10-1.

His runner, Bright Days Ahead, brings lots of potential having run out an 'impressive' 3.5 length winner of a fillies maiden at Newmarket at the end of last season. She is by Lope De Vega and is well related to 100+ rated siblings including the French Group winning See The Rose. Good market support ahead of this race. 7f will suit ideally. Rossa Ryan (SR 17%) booked.

Ralph Beckett (SR 25%) has to be respected having trained three previous winners of the John Porter Stakes. Feigning Madness is an outsider here. Won first two starts at fair grade but disappointing in latter two starts when progressed to Listed level. Some excuses perhaps (Epsom; heavy ground). Wouldn't be a great surprise if the four year-old Ulysses gelding is considerably better than that. Appealing each-way play with the stable in solid winning form.

Ravenscraig Castle is chanced in a fairly open race. Lurks on a good handicap mark (OR108) and while the 7yo by Nathaniel is yet to score over hurdles there's been many decent efforts where he's gone close. Ran some good races on the Flat at this course so interesting coming back here. Last four outings have been at Musselburgh. Ran the decent Slugger quite close before putting in a decent run in the Scottish County Hurdle (5th beaten 3 lengths). Jumping errors last time. Drop in class officially and interesting receiving over a stone from some of the horses here. Callum Pritchard claims 5lbs which will help also.

Flying Fletcher is a four year-old and has only won two of 13 starts so far but both wins were over course and distance. They were achieved from marks of 68 and 77 but the latter was a comfortable 3.5 length success so could be quite capable of scoring off OR83. Trained by Richard Fahey who often continues to steadily eke out improvement in a handicapper and is in his usual good form for this time of year with recent winners. Oisin Orr rides. Ran quite well on only previous return from a break in big field handicap at York. Slow starts have become a feature but could be just the ticket if they go off too hard. Looks a value bet for the win at 12-1.

Browned Off has come in for strong early market interest, his odds halved from 18-1 to 9-1. The 4-year-old New Approach filly made her handicap debut just ten days ago over 1 mile here and ran prominently early. She wasn't beaten far, finishing tenth of twenty runners. Dropped a furlong in trip to seven furlongs now. Luke McAteer rides for trainer Paul Flynn. Unexposed on second handicap start. Chance and should be considered, especially if coming in for further market support.

Double Digits drops back into a maiden hurdle having only been beaten a nose in a novices hurdle at Newcastle last month. Went very close to beating a heavily odds-on shot there, the first two going some eighteen lengths clear of the third. Trip and going identical here. Looks to have a strong chance of success in this not overly competitive maiden hurdle.
