A very open handicap hurdle of two miles with few coming into the race in strong form. The handicap is mostly quite compact too so Kalanisi Dubh is the choice running off a mark of 94, 2lbs higher than for last of two wins from 20 goes in hurdle competition. Those wins were both over the short trip on soft and heavy ground so forecast rain is providential. Jake Coen claims 3lbs for trainer Seamus Fahey. Strange sort of form: always well off the pace and sometimes turns up to stay on late. Probably has a chance at this fairly modest level of competition.

I'm not sure about the odds of 2-1. That's short for a handicap. Nariko has a lot of ability and trainer Hugo Palmer will probably have been waiting for soft ground to run this 4yo filly by Night Of Thunder. Smart winner on soft at Haydock 6f just over a year ago beating Kodi Lion 2 lengths there (it was a strong handicap). Followed that with a win at Salisbury and neck second at Doncaster. Strange the stable hasn't tried this filly in higher grade company as she obviously has ability. Still well handicapped off OR84 (not even top weight) and has a big shout.

Ross O'Sullivan is another trainer coming back into form. A chance is taken on Club Manager here. Won and placed in low grade staying handicaps for Andrew Balding, a win and numerous decent efforts over hurdles for Gavin Cromwell before joining current trainer. Only five years old. Just one hurdle outing for the yard over 2m1f at Wexford last month. This is a big step up in trip but, by Nathaniel, Club Manager might come good for it. Handicap mark of 111 (11 stone 3 lbs) looks a bit tough so Tom Harney's 5lbs claim useful. An intriguing one.

Kingman filly El Budoor is going the right way. A late starter who debuted at Ascot last month and was not asked much. Stepped up markedly on that when, having been fractious and thrown her jockey pre-race, produced a solid win beating a decent sort at Lingfield on second maiden start. Considerably up in class now but seems progressive. Pedigree offers hope. Her dam Enbihaar won three of three races at Goodwood all at Class 1 level in these owners' silks. Gosden stable in very good form (SR 26%). Jim Crowley rides. Some market support.

Paddy (Philip) Rothwell stable has come back into form with recent winners after a slight lull. Oh, ok, there's a third stable runner in the picture! Woodstream Lad is the selection. Pippa (?) Elvin is the most experienced of the jockeys booked. The 8yo by Soldier Of Fortune ran a big race when second at Leopardstown in November 2023. Two wins either side of that. Runs off 6lbs higher than last winning mark. Good race. So Des Flos probably offers a bit of value at 33-1 here. Two chase wins for Gordon Elliott (SR 20%) have come over a slightly longer trip on softer ground at Fairyhouse. The Lion In Winter can win the Derby for Aiden O'Brien (SR 29%) and Colin Keane. Ante-post favourite for this race for a long time until disappointing in the Dante. Connections did say prior to that race that he wasn't fully ready. He didn't settle, was 'edgy, sweating, pulled hard,' but still stayed on to only be beaten four lengths. Son of Sea The Stars out of a Lope De Vega filly that won over 1m4f will benefit from this proper middle distance trip. Two wins from two runs at age two that read well form-wise. Taken to return to form and come good on the high expectations they've always held for him at Ballydoyle.

Intriguing 3yo handicap. Many promising types yet to exploit the potential they showed last year. Michael Dods hasn't had a winner for ages but they've been running well, many going close, and Eves Boy is the pick for me. I managed to get on a little at 5-1 which makes more betting sense than 7-2. Winner over 7f, good ground at age two and a big eyecatcher on last run in a class 3 at York so down in grade here. Got off to a poor start when bumped early and was unintentionally too far off a slow pace. Full of running late on, constantly meeting traffic. The fifth from that race has won since (York, 7f, Cl 4). Looks a good type for seven furlongs. Unexposed sorts (Native Knight, Stardancer) are others to consider.

A longshot play on Magna Beauty. Runs for Ed Buckley stable, profitable to follow on all runners both on Flat and Jumps. Recent hurdles winner and maiden winner from just three runners on the Flat this year. They persist with sprinting trips with Magna Beauty. Has shown little form on the racecourse. Only a 3yo, rated 45, so looking quite odd in this line-up. First run for 130 days since two outings at Dundalk. Killian Leonard rides. First time tongue-tie. 7yo mare Step Back In Time has been entered in a couple of races this week and I think was a recent non-runner. 27 days since last outing - a fine run, staying on late over five furlongs at Naas. Good winner at Navan 6f when made all to win off a rating of 44 (OR48 today, 3lbs lower than last run). Racing Post Forecast suggested odds of 5-1. Fourth of 17 when last here in September 2023. Rhoscolyn is a horse I follow, coming back into form. Winner of this race in 2021 off a mark of 92 and last year from a mark of 97 (same rating as today). A popular choice for tipsters and strong market support so we're left with odds of 7-2 which I'm not finding greatly tempting. Clearly likes it here although also generally best with a bit of cut in the ground. Ran well at Chester just six days ago. He was backed down to 2-1 from much bigger prices that day, made up taking ground late. The horse back in ninth that day, Romeo Sensini, won on the next start by ten lengths. Green Soul ran a very good race and yet looked like he would still benefit from the run. This 1m6f Premier Handicap looks very hot with just under 30,000 euros prizemoney up for grabs. Some usual suspects and many dual purpose horses, including the selection, Joseph O'Brien (SR 15%) trained Mr Percy. Actually runs off bottom weight here with the lowest rating of all of 87. Wayne Hassett further claims a 5lbs allowance. Form record is a strong one. Eight runs since joining the yard have resulted in three wins, three second places and the two no shows can be put down to bad jumping errors. 16-1 winner of a Grade 2 novice hurdle when last out in April. Ran second, beaten a neck, in sole previous handicap run on the Flat at Galway at this trip (August last year). Has shown a lot of promise and could easily be well in on current handicap mark. A 3yo handicap again, this one looking pretty one-sided. Me Tarzan travelled strongly and effectively coasted home over 7f at Leicester just a week ago in a first time visor. Rossa Ryan (SR 17%) replaces Saffie Osborne on Miss Show Down here, Clive Cox trained filly by Showcasing who looked like she would come on for her seasonal debut in a Class 4 at Goodwood last time (little supported in the market at 22-1). Really interesting Listed contest over seven furlongs. Quite a few up and coming four year old sorts. Alyanaabi merits respect. Harry Angel mare Tiger Bay (five years old actually) has the lowest weight in the race. She won a Listed race for fillies much earlier this month. Goes a step higher to Group 3 competition here. Lots of strong handicap form. Stays seven furlongs and good ground will suit plus the mare's allowance will come in handy.

Bond Chairman starts out for the new yard of Geoff Oldroyd. The stable has been profitable to follow on all runners over the last five years. One 28-1 comfortable maiden winner from one runner in the last two weeks. 30% strike rate on all runners this season. Bond Chairman, a 6yo sprinter by Kodiac, won on first start in 2023 from a mark of 95 (Doncaster, 5f, GF), but the last five runs for Bryan Smart were very poor efforts. Very tempting off a mark of 84 for a highly rated yard that does well with horses fresh from a break.

Willuhaveamineral makes debut in this maiden hurdle for trainer Michael Winters, whose few runners this season have run well and often gone close. This five-year-old Milan mare has some decent relations in the family on the dam's side (Getaway is the grand-dam). A possible if ready to go first time. Daniel King rides.

Comfortable winner of a handicap over course and distance in July last year (good ground). That was only a Class 5 but this progressive 4yo by Showcasing won a Class 2 handicap on penultimate start and ran really well from the front over seven furlongs at Newmarket last time. A short break won't hurt after that. Cieren Fallon (SR 16%) booked for the first time. Outside squeak of a chance.

A 17 runner Class 3 handicap over six furlongs at Haydock Park looks fun. Bosh is up to this level and down to a more reasonable handicap mark of 87. Makes third start for Michael Dods here (won handicaps off marks of 88 and 90 when with Richard Hannon). Paul Mulrennan rides. By Group 1 winning sprinter Profitable. Good racing ground should suit. Central draw in stall 9. Must improve on his three recent outings for this yard but always been an in and out type, very useful on his day. Three of his four wins have come at this grade. Chance.

Newtown Rambler is one of two runners here for Henry De Bromhead. The form of two maiden hurdle runs last season reads very well (beat Gavin Cromwell's Will Wilde who went on to win a big handicap hurdle) but Newtown Rambler has disappointed in two starts in handicap company so far. Early days yet. One win from four starts under Rules. May progress from sole seasonal outing on soft/heavy ground over a month ago. Intriguingly is a half-brother to Grand National winner Corach Rambler. Mike O'Connor rides.

This is a fairly low-grade 0-100 handicap hurdle and suited to an unexposed type. Menas Miracle fits that bill. She makes her handicap debut off a mark of 75 and carries 10 stone 3 pounds. Conor Stone-Walsh claims a 3 lbs allowance for trainer Brendan Walsh. 6-year-old by Jet Away (good source of hurdles winners). Cosy 13-length winner of a 3 miles Point in December (not so long ago). That ability has not been on display in a bumper and three maiden hurdles since. I expect the mare will show a lot more this evening.

Jedd O'Keefe trained runner ridden by Callum Shepherd. Some promise from debut at Southwell a month ago, staying on late. Horses often improve for debut for this yard and the dam, More Mischief, improved significantly to win on second start for this trainer. Competitive Class 4 novice stakes but this son of Arc winner Sottsass (grand-sire is Siyouni) may have claims.

Belardo filly trained by Jessica Harrington who won a nursery over course and distance on final start (second time in handicaps) last year. Has run prominently early in two starts back so far. Well drawn and handicapper has given her a chance. Runs off six pounds lower mark than last time in relatively weak sprint race. Stable looks on the brink of some winners (recent good seconds). Shane Foley rides.
