Five runs since January for the 5yo, disappointing, but I feel there was a glimmer of hope last time out over 8f at this track. He made the running that day and was outpaced approaching the final furlong. However, he was keen and used plenty of early energy from the widest draw to get the lead. He has a 5 lb lower mark now. A 7f trip could help, and he’s facing lower-rated rivals. He was rated a huge 16 lb higher back in June.

He’s actually better off at the weights now, with the same jockey in the saddle, and he’s allowed to claim his full allowance. The Paul Nicholls-trained 6yo should be better for his return run five weeks ago. Back in March he was a very close 3rd of 17 in the £51K Imperial Cup handicap hurdle, which was over this 16f C/D. He’s on a handy mark now, and top jockey Harry Cobden takes over in the saddle. He could be a big player in this £26K handicap.

Lightly raced 3yo. He has one win from four on the flat and is rated a useful 83. Two starts over hurdles: a maiden win on his hurdle debut eight weeks ago and a respectable third five weeks ago. He had no answer to the winner in the latter stages that day, but the winner has given the form a big boost since. He has the experience now in this 3yo Listed hurdle, and he shouldn’t be meeting the calibre of runner who beat him last time. I like that he has proven form on very soft ground.
