There is a gulf in class, but Scotland aren't world-beaters and not used to winning games on this stage. They would take a 1-0 win now.

The main strikers have been in form in the opening few days so far, and Shankland could make himself a Scotland legend tonight.

23:00 Brazil v Morocco

Morocco

This is not a great Brazil side and only the signing of Ancelotti as manager has heightened the mood in their camp. This is a very tricky opener for them, though, and if Morocco score first they could well cause a shock.

I've gone against the overs in almost every game so far this World Cup. This is probably the best-quality match on paper so far. Brazil are still good on their day but have probably the weakest team in decades. Morocco are a good side and could be a dark horse to go deep in this tournament. Expect both sides to have chances.

Brazil's profile is based on past great national sides, and this is not one of them, although they still have great players. Morocco, though, are dangerous opponents with quality and will create chances against this dodgy Brazil defence.

Thiago is the shock starter for Brazil. After a great season for Brentford, it's still a surprise for him to be picked over the likes of Richarlison. He will look to take his chance.

Paraguay are a competitive side on their day but generally fail to perform on the big stage. Expect USA to be well up for this.

Most opening group games at major tournaments are generally low scoring, and I can't see this having more than 3 goals maximum. One goal could be enough for the hosts.

Bosnia Herzegovina

The only reason Canada are favourites is because they are hosts, but they are a poor side and have yet to win a game at a major tournament in their history. Bosnia beat Wales and Italy in the play-offs to get here and could stun the joint hosts.

Two teams that don't score many goals, and the first goal is crucial. It should be tight, and one goal could well win this in a low quality contest.

If Canada are to win this, they will have to score first. The reliance will be on Jonathan David, who is Canada's main striker and second-best player. With Alphonso Davies only on the bench as he recovers from the injury he picked up late in the domestic season, the weight of the nation rests with David.

Bosnia don't have the quality they had with Džeko in his Man City prime years and rely on keeping things tight and keeping clean sheets to get results. Expect this to be tight and low scoring.

I can't see Mexico losing this and it should be very tight. Don't expect many chances either; it should get a bit edgy. Jiménez could make the difference with the only goal.

It's the opening game, and the hosts will be hoping for a winning start. The fans will be loud, but don't expect this to be very one-sided. Mexico will have a lot of the ball but won't score many goals. The only way I can see this having three goals is if South Africa scores and Mexico still win.

Raul Jimenez

First Goalscorer

@+359

Don't expect this to be high-scoring or a lot of shots on target. The crowd will make this electric, but it should be tight. Jiménez is still Mexico's best player and scores in most of their wins. A header from a set piece or corner could see Mexico off to the perfect start.

Raul Jimenez

Don't be surprised if Jiménez scores the only goal of the game and ends up taking his shirt off. He's no stranger to a few fouls, whether it be for club or country, and he's also no stranger to the referee's notebook.

Teboho Mokoena

Mexico are used to fiery and physical games, and both sides are physical. Expect a few strong challenges in a game nobody wants to lose on the opening day of the World Cup. There could be a few bookings, and Mokoena is a player in the middle of the park who will have to chase around and make a fair few tackles.
