With a mining/archaeology theme, the Le Digger slot is another game in the popular ‘Le’ slots series. The 10^th slot featuring Smokey the Raccoon, this time he’s armed with a whip and a wink as he goes in search for treasure.

Set on a dry, desert site, you’ll see dinosaur bones and palm tress in the backdrop. With a playful and upbeat soundtrack, low value symbols including A, K, Q, J and 10 royals. Layers

When a winning combination lands (5+ connecting symbols of the same kind anywhere in view), winning symbols are removed from the grid, including 1 layer of the grid behind those symbols. A new layer appears and new symbols will then fill the empty grid positions. The process continues until no more wins appear.

The grid has 3 layers, which each layer containing the following symbols:

• Layer 1: Low value, high value, Wild Dynamite and FS Scatter symbols
• Layer 2: Low value, high value, Wild Dynamite and FS Scatter symbols
• Layer 3: Golden reveal with Special symbols

Dynamite Removal

When the grid settles, Smokey the Raccoon might throw 1 to 5 Dynamites onto the grid. Affecting a 2x2 square area around where the Dynamite landed, the affected symbols are removed (including 1 layer behind the symbol). A new layer appears with new symbols filling the empty grid positions.

When Smokey throws a Dynamite that affects a Wild Dynamite symbol, the Wild Dynamite explodes, removing symbols and 1 layer in a 3x3 square around it. If another Wild Dynamite appears within the 3x3 square, this causes a chain reaction (removing more symbols and layers). If 2 Dynamites affect the same grid position, only 1 layer is removed though.

With FS Scatters and layer 3 not affected by thrown Dynamite or Wild Dynamite, there is a chance that Smokey throws more Dynamite onto the grid if new regular wins are formed. The process can continue until no more wins appear.

Golden Reveals

When layer 3 is achieved, the Golden positions reveal Special symbols (once all wins and Dynamite have been handled). Special symbols include Bronze, Silver, Gold or Diamond Coin symbols as well as Collector or Green and Gold Clover symbols. Coin symbols award cash prizes:

• Bronze Coins: worth 1 to 4 x your total bet
• Silver Coins: worth 5 to 10 x your total bet
• Gold Coins: worth 20 to 50 x your total bet
• Diamond Coins: worth 100 to 500 x your total bet

Once all Golden positions have been revealed, Clover symbols then activate:

• Green Clovers: multiply all Coins or existing Collectors on adjacent squares with a multiplier of 2x to 20x
• Gold Clovers: multiply all Coins or existing Collectors on the grid with a multiplier of 2x to 20x

Once all Clover symbols have applied their multipliers, Collector symbols activate. Collector symbols collect the values of all Coins and other activated Collectors and stored their combined value. They activate top to bottom, left to right.

Then all collected Golden positions reveal new Special symbols, with the process repeating for each Collector on the grid. Finally, all Coins and Collectors are added together to award your final payout.

Tomb Service

The Tomb Service feature is triggered by landing 3 FS Scatters in the base game. With 10 free spins awarded, you can go onto play the free spins or activate the Bonus Gamble: this allows you to win access to the Dig It feature or win a cash prize up to 50 x your total bet.

If you opt for the Tomb Service free spins, you can expect the same gameplay as the base game. Additionally, a Dynamite Collector appears outside the grid. Every time a Wild Dynamite symbol is part of a win, it’s collected in the Dynamite Collector.

On your last free spin, the Dynamite Collector activates with Smokey throwing the number of collected Dynamites onto the grid. Landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters will result in 2 or 4 extra free spins, respectively.

Dig It

If you see 4 FS Scatters on the grid during the base game, you’ll trigger the Dig It feature, with 10 free spins. Again, you can choose to play the free spins or use the Bonus Gamble to win your way into the Gold Digger feature. The other alternative is a cash prize between 5 and 500 x your total bet.

In the Dig It free spins, there is Blast Bar outside the grid. Each time a symbol is removed from the grid by a win or by Dynamite in layers 1 and 2, the Blast Bar increases.

Not resetting between free spins, filling the Blast Bar increases the minimum Coin type that can be reveal for the next Golden reveal as well as awarding 5 extra free spins.

• 1^st Activation (85 symbols): Silver Coins will the minimum Coin type
• 2^nd Activation (100 symbols): Gold Coins will the minimum Coin type
• 3^rd Activation (115 symbols): Diamond Coins will the minimum Coin type

Gold Digger 

Finally, 5 FS Scatters landing during a base game spin will trigger the Gold Digger feature, with 10 free spins. Working like the base game, Smokey is guaranteed to throw 5 Dynamites onto the grid for every free spin (after regular wins have been handled).

When all the Dynamite has exploded, new wins and any Golden reveals are handled. On Golden reveals, Coins will be Silver, Gold and/or Diamond. Landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters will give you 2 or 4 more free spins, respectively.

The 10^th game in the ‘Le’ series, the Le Digger slot sees Smokey go on another adventure, but this time in search of treasure. Quirky and fun, he plays an archaeologist who has a relaxed attitude to safety as he throws out dynamite onto the grid.  

Hacksaw Gaming has changed how Golden reveals work in Le Digger: each grid position has 3 layers with wins revealing golden reveals once you’ve reached layer 3 (after forming wins twice before on that position). What helps is Smokey can throw up to 5 Dynamites onto the grid, exploding 2x2 square areas for more opportunities to land wins. If a Dynamite affects a Wild Dynamite symbol, it explodes and leads to symbols and layers removed in a 3x3 square.

As expected, Diamond Coins are the most lucrative (worth up to 500 x bet). Gold Clovers can boost all Coins or existing Collects by up to 20x. This is where the bigger wins will come from. I also like that you don’t need rainbows to active the golden squares (like in Le Fisherman).

In the 3 free spins modes, the base game mechanics are amplified. I do like that you can gamble for a more lucrative feature in both the Tomb Service and Dig It features but you will end up with a Coin more often than not. In the Tomb Service free spins, collected Wild Dynamite symbols are added to a Dynamite Collector which are then added back on to the grid on your final free spin.

With the Dig It free spins, collecting winning symbols will fill the Blast Bar: this will lead to more lucrative Coins and extra free spins. In the Gold Digger free spins, 5 Dynamites are thrown onto the grid for each free spin, which increases your win potential significantly.

With 15,000 x bet max wins, I really like Le Digger as Hacksaw has added more layers and mechanics to boost the series further. Whilst I would have hoped the max win potential was higher (i.e. 25,000 x bet or higher), the key to land successive winning combinations which in turn awards gold layers and plenty of special symbols.

All in all though, a welcome adventure where Smokey shines yet again. Personally though, I still think Le Cowboy or Le Pharaoh are the best games in the series but Le Digger runs them close.
