Overview

Slot Details
The Laced slot is played on 5 reels, 6 rows and up to 7,776 ways to win: winning combinations are formed by landing 3 or more matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, beginning from the leftmost reel. Only the longest matching combination per symbol is awarded.
With a 10p minimum bet per spin, you can play up to £5 a spin in the UK (or up to £2 a spin if under 25). Outside the UK, players can play for up to £50 a spin (or currency equivalent). To change your bet, utilise the plus and minus buttons: pressing/clicking the ‘Bet’ amount will bring up a pop-up with all bet options. Non-UK players can take advantage of Turbo Mode and Autoplay functionality.
The Laced RTP rate is 96.12%, which is above the 96% slot game average. 50.13% comes in the base game and 45.99% from the bonus features. As expected, Shady Lady has created alternative RTP settings of 94.04% and 91.92%.

Theme, Audio + Symbols
With a psychedelic/drugs theme, the Laced slot is about a stoner called ‘The Dude’ that is tripping. You’ll see the main character on his sofa, with a blunt in one hand and a bag of crisps in another. Wearing a multi-coloured hippie-style t-shirt, headphones and a backwards cap, he’s a typical marijuana-smoking stoner.
Set in the stoner’s run-down living room, you’ll see a marijuana plant in the background. The soundtrack has a reggae feel to tie into the theme but is equally trippy to add to the stoner’s state of mind.
On the reels, the 4 lower-value symbols are represented by bags of different drugs, including pills and marijuana. Then you have a Nokia mobile phone, slice of pizza, smoking pipe and wallet: the wallet symbol pay the most, awarding 0.7, 1.5 or 2 x bet for 3, 4 or 5 in combination.
Laced comes with several special symbols: firstly, there is a Pink Elephant Wild symbol that substitutes for all paying symbols above. Then you have Green, Purple and Gold Buds, a lighter and a Scatter. Details on their functions are described below.

Cascades
When you form a winning combination, the Cascade feature is triggered. Winning symbols are removed from the reels with the remaining symbols dropping down into the empty positions. New symbols then cascade in to give you another chance of forming a winning combination. The process repeats itself as long as you keep winning.
Burning Buds
On each spin, parts of the grid will be covered by Bud symbols, blocking winning combinations. If you land a Lighter symbol, you’ll trigger the Burning Buds feature: a random number of Buds on random positions will ignite and burn away. Each burnt Bud reveals the same mystery symbol, allowing for winning combinations to form.
Furthermore, some burnt Buds may reveal an extra Lighter: this sparks a second burn where even more Buds are transformed into matching mystery symbols.
Laced Buds
Moving on, not all Buds are ordinary ones. As well as regular green Buds, purple or gold Laced Buds can appear. Burning a Laced Bud will summon a flying elephant:
- Purple Buds: they summon 1x1 Purple Elephants, which carry a multiplier of 1x, 2x or 3x.
- Gold Buds: they summon 2x2 Golden Elephants, which carry a multiplier of 1x, 5x, 10x or even 100x.
Once all Buds have burnt, any elephants will fly in and land on random positions on the reels, applying their multipliers and acting as a wild symbol.
Bonus
The Bonus feature is triggered by landing 3 Scatters. With 6 free spins awards, you’ll benefit from more Laced Buds than in the base game. Your chances of landing a Lighter symbol increases. Landing a bag of crisps symbol will give you 1 extra free spin.
Super Bonus
When you see 4 Scatters during a base game spin, you’ll trigger the Super Bonus feature, with 8 free spins. This enhanced version benefits from even more Laced Buds with Lighters appearing a lot more frequently. 1 additional free spin is won when you land a bag of crisps symbol.

As found in other Shady Lady slot games, you have ‘The Store’: not available to UK players, you can buy boosters, bonus features, highlight reels and loot boxes. All the details are below:

Expert Verdict
Laced is a psychedelic trip that combines transforming mystery symbols and wild multipliers for a unique experience and 20,000 x bet max wins.
For starters, the theme is the Laced slot is different. Shady Lady’s 9th release, it is based on a stoner who is constantly tripping: it provides a humorous experience and one many a student can relate to. With a reggae soundtrack that morphs into something more upbeat and weird, you go on a trip with ‘The Dude’: there are flying elephants, laced buds and plenty of crisps to satisfy the munchies.
In terms of the gameplay, wins lead to cascades: these can lead to plenty of continuous wins. The key are Bud and Lighter symbols as Buds are ignited and burnt, which in turn reveal the same mystery symbol. If you land purple or gold Laced Buds, you’ll see Purple and Golden Elephants fly across the reels with multipliers up to 100x!
In the Bonus and Super Bonus features, you will benefit from more Laced Buds and Lighters than in the base game. Whilst testing in demo mode, I manage to land a Golden Elephant with a 100x multiplier: this resulted in a win over 19,500 x my total bet!
Whilst focusing on transforming mystery symbols, you need a Lighter to set them off. The more symbols that are transformed, the more ways to win you’ll benefit from. However, the Purple and Gold Buds add Elephant Wilds with multipliers up to 100x. I loved the graphics and animations in the Bonus features with ‘The Dude’ flying around with a spliff in one hand as well a bag of crisps and piece in cake floating around him.
With 20,000 x bet max wins, Laced is a relative simple slot game. That said, the unique theme, superb visuals and the way the various bonus features combine make for a psychedelic and exciting experience that tempt me to join ‘The Dude’ in his living room.
